Message from the President I hope you are all well and avoiding getting exposed to the Corona Virus. All of us going around wearing bandanas look like we are going to rob the train or the bank but better to look like a robber than get sick. We do not need to be statistics! Thanks to all that took time out of your lives to see my Facebook Live meeting. This was my first attempt and the buffering was the big problem but no one seemed to have trouble finding it so, good for all of you and I must do better if I need to do one again.
While I am hoping we will get back to our meeting at the Legion next month if that is not possible I will try Facebook Live again. I do miss getting to see all of you but I am glad to have an opportunity to get information to you even if it is remotely. Your Board and Officers of NHA are meeting by Zoom until we can meet face-to-face. We still have business to attend to even though our favorite events have had to be cancelled. I know you all missed Horseweek and Labor Day weekend will not be the same without the fair but decisions had to be made before financial commitments were made that could not be cancelled. These groups will need extra support next year to put these events on so plan to help any way you can next year. With so much bad news, there is some good news too. Norco is healthy, not much Corona Virus here. We are able to get out and ride our horses and enjoy our other animals too. So spend time with your family be they four legged or two, have hooves, paws or feet and be glad we have the space to be out and have all we have.
Casino Night 2020 A huge thank you to all of you that helped, sponsored, and attended our 24th annual casino night. We had very generous sponsors and lots of members helping with the event. I really appreciate all the hard work by your Board and Officers to put this event together. As it turned out, this was the last event in the city before the Corona Virus epidemic stay home orders. We were completely in compliance with the criteria when we had the event. The rules changed the following Monday. If we had scheduled the event for the following weekend, we would have had to cancel. Since we still do not know when we will be able to hold events again, we were truly blessed to be able to have this event and raise money for scholarships. Now the next step is to award the scholarships. With schools not meeting as usual and doing all classes they can online, Norco High has to set up a procedure to help students apply for scholarships. Hopefully the seniors will be able to fill out applications and be awarded the money they deserve to help them continue their education. Again, thank you to all of you for supporting this event. We will be able to give scholarships to some deserving Norco High School FFA students because of your support.

Every year we present the top ten trails that need improvement to the City. This year the list could not be presented to the Streets, Trails and Utilities Commission because they have not met. Because City Council meetings are currently closed to the public, Bonnie had to write her presentation and have it read by the City Clerk at the April 15th meeting. If you would like to see the presentation, visit the city web site. Not only are all city council meetings streamed live and are also available to watch at any time.
Our Top Ten list has not changed a lot, but we did add one item to the list. You probably have seen that all the wood fencing on Sixth Street is being removed and the white vinyl fence is being installed. While many prefer the wood fence, the white vinyl fence seems to be much more visible at night. Maybe people will see it and not hit it as often.
Our request is that they bring the fencing all the way to Ingalls Park. At this time the fencing ends at Crestview. Then there is a piece of fence in front of Pike’s Peak Park and then no fencing as your ride into the arena or take the trail to Pumpkin Rock. We would like to see the fence extended into Ingalls Park. This addition would add safety for riders or people walking and it would finish off that area which is a show piece of this city.
Please contact Bill Naylor if you have questions about the ten top trails list or you have trail concerns. As soon as we are able, the Trails Committee meetings will resume at the Sixth Street Deli at 6:30 on the first Thursday of the month.
