Principal’s Message
Welcome to Week 5!
I have some exciting breaking news about
our school to announce. I am very thrilled to
let you all know that today I was able to offer
our amazing Mrs Sophie Bailey a permanent
classroom teacher position at MEPS starting
from Day 1, Term 1, 2019 – and she has
accepted! I am sure you will join me in
congratulating Mrs Bailey. It is very well-
deserved and I am so happy that we can
keep her as part of our MEPS community. As
for classes for 2019, I am still waiting on some
further staffing and funding answers and
looking to finalising student numbers. So
while we will have 11 classes in 2019 based
on our numbers, I can’t share what these will
look like yet or who the teachers will be. I
really appreciate your patience and
understanding with this. I will let everyone
know as soon as I can.
This Thursday, we have some lovely
Japanese university exchange students
visiting our school. They will be visiting each

This is our major Year 6 fundraiser of the year. Our wonderful Year 6
students have a wide range of stalls, with something to appeal to
everyone. Students will need to bring their money on the day to buy
tickets to use at each stall – there is a flyer with more information further
on in the newsletter. Healthy Harold visits will take place next Monday
19th November. All notes and money should be in by now. The
Callaghan Education Pathways Digital Media Festival will be held at
Callaghan College Waratah Campus on Thursday 29th November in the
evening. You can get your tickets from the office - $5 for a single ticket
and $10 for a family. Our school will be submitting a film. The P&C will be
supporting us with a yummy food stall and our Junior and Senior Tap
Troupes will also be performing. In fact, our Senior Tap Troupe will be the
opening entertainment act! The P&C Rainbow Run will then be on Friday
30th November after lunch. So lots of great things happening here at
Mayfield East in the coming weeks.
Thank you to the parents and carers who completed the Tell Them From
Me survey recently. We received some very constructive feedback on
programs and processes happening in our school. Thank you for taking
the time to let us know how we are doing.
Finally, there has been a mix-up about the date of the Yarn Evening with
our Aboriginal students and their families which I must apologise for. As
assessments are still currently taking place and we’re still determining
staffing and classes for 2019, the Yarn Evening will now be taking place in
Week 8, on Thursday 6th December from 5pm. Please save that date in
your calendar. It will be much more effective having the meetings at that
point as classes and teachers should be close to being finalised for next
year. Thank you for your understanding.
Have a fantastic week!
Mrs Christie
Our school is participating in Hunter New England
Health’s Good for Kids. Good for Life program which
has been working with schools in our region for
more than a decade to implement healthy eating
and physical activity programs.
As part of the program Good for Kids are returning
in term 4, 2018, to measure the activity levels of
students. Students who participated in the initial
data collection will again be wearing an
accelerometer each day while at school for one
school week. An accelerometer is worn on the wrist
and looks like a watch but captures activity levels.
This data is collected to assist in providing support
in schools with the scheduling of physical activity.
This includes the provision of professional
development for our staff as well as the provision of
resources and on-going support from the Good for
Kids team.
Our students have been working on this 500 piece jigsaw puzzle of the Solar System for the past few weeks during lunchtime in the library. Great work everyone!! Mrs Bayl, LIbrarian
THE 2018 DIGITAL MEDIA
FESTIVAL—CCWTC
Students in the digital media group and students in 4/5R have been hard at work creating an interesting short film. They have been involved in participating in drama activities and creating short films using iMovie and incorporating green screen activities. The short film will be presented at the 2018 Digital Media Festival (DMF) at Callaghan College, Waratah Campus. It will take place on Thursday 29th November from 4:30pm and concludes at 9pm. Tickets are available from the front office. They cost $5 a person or $15 a family. This is a great experience for your child and also helps to raise money for the school. Amanda Rake Co-ordinator
CANTEEN UPDATE Unfortunately due to the lack of orders we will no longer be offering SUSHI as a lunch option.
We will look at adding it to the menu next year. Kallie Newman Canteen Supervisor
