There is no doubt that US President Barak Obama

is a war criminal as are his military and intelligence of-ficials and most of the House and Senate.

Obama is the first president to keep the US at war for the entirety of his eight-year regime. During 2016 alone the US dropped 26,171 bombs on wedding parties, funerals, kid’s soccer games, hospitals, schools, people in their homes and walking their streets, and farmers tilling their fields in seven countries: Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan.

What does the administration have to show for eight years of

illegal military interventions in seven countries, none of which comprised a danger to the US and against none of which the US has declared war? Terrorism was created by US invasions, no wars have been won, and the Mid-dle East has been consumed in chaos and destruction. Worldwide hatred of the United States has risen to a record high. The US is now the most despised country on earth.

The only purposes of these crimes is to enrich the arma-ments industry and to advance

the insane neoconservative ide-ology of US world hegemony. A tiny handful of despicable people have been able to destroy the reputation of the United States and murder millions of peoples, sending waves of war refugees to the US and Europe.

We call these “wars,” but they are not. They are invasions, largely from the air, but in Af-ghanistan and Iraq from troops on the ground. The invasions by air and land are entirely based on blatant, transparent lies. The “justifications” for the invasions

have changed a dozen times.

Washington’s massive crimes against humanity

The questions are: If Trump becomes president, will Wash-ington’s massive crimes against humanity continue? If so, will the rest of the world continue to tolerate Washington’s extraordi-nary evil?

The campaign by Tosh MacDonald of the Aslef

Union and RMT’s Mick Cash may be purely politi-cal: to use railway strikes to get their mate Jeremy Corbin in power.

But their excuse is prevent-ing train companies from throwing out guards, and the Unions are exactly right here. After the guards go. it will be driverless trains next.

Guards perform a valuable service - they answer ques-tions - where is the buffet car, what time do we arrive at; where do I change for; they help passengers; if you be-come seriously ill on the train they will make arrangements to get you to hospital. Most importantly they collect fares. They put a human face on the train company, and are often good at public relations - its good marketing.

The government, press and train companies have deceived us by pretending its all about closing doors. It isn’t.

To prepare for the removal of guards, expensive ticket

barriers are being installed at every station - treating us even more like cattle. Plenty of other nations don’t have them, and their passengers are still treated with respect.

Yes, the train companies are desperately trying to make sensible profits in this impossibly over regulated and overtaxed economy, but taking humans out of as many aspects of employment as possible is not the answer.

Abolishing the 120,000 EU regulations and halting the colossal waste of our taxes is.

Automation will cause the amount of jobs for humans to decline drastically. Particularly

with our politicians and civil servants, who must despise the English, flooding Britain with a million immigrants every year. What chance do we stand? How long is it before having a job is unusual?

Professor Stephen Hawkins et al warned that as humans are replaced by machines with artificial intelligence, it is inevitable that the machines would take over, rule us with an iron rod, and decide how many humans will live or die. This is the final achievement of the profit motive, if it is not properly handled. Abolish-ing train guards is just one of many “thin ends of the wedge” on the way.

Hawkins is saying that our future will be similar to Arnold Shwartzeneggar’s film, Terminator - the Rise of the Machines.

To save our employment now, and to protect us from this ghastly future, most attempts to replace humans with automa-tion should be fiercely resisted by the general public.

We may not support Cash or MacDonald’s rabidly commu-nist ambitions, but we really must support the train guards.

Dr Sarah Wollaston MP misled the HouseSarah Wollaston MP

deliberately mislead the house of Commons when she rubbished GcMAF’s (the best treatment for cancer) scientific backing on the 9th December 2014. She said David Noakes, CEO Immuno Biotech Ltd, had “attached a couple of scientific-y looking papers on GcMAF which have no bearing on its clinical effectiveness” - a complete lie.

She was well aware there are 300 GcMAF scientists from 8 nations who have written nearly 150 scientific research papers on GcMAF, all of them peer reviewed and published in the world’s top scientific journals. Just over half of them are republished on the US National Library of Medicine, i.e. Pubmed.

If you go to a US government website, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed, and do a search on gcmaf OR dbpmaf, you’ll see 66 of the 78 GcMAF papers published there.

Human protein with no side effects

The first one that was attached for Dr Wollaston was “Vitamin D Binding Protein-Macrophage Activating Factor Inhibits HCC in SCID Mice” - that is the full title for GcMAF, which is a human protein with no side effects.

Its authors are Japan’s top five cancer research institutes, including the prestigious Atomic Bomb Institute, Nagasaki University. They know more about cancer than anyone. On page 4 they show a photo of cancer tumours shrunk 90% in three weeks by GcMAF.

That is a clinical result Dr Wollaston, - reducing tumours by 90% in three weeks, albeit in mice.

11,000 human patients have now been treated, so we do have good scientific data. The best result is in the worst cancer off all, pancreatic cancer, where 75% move from terminal stage 4 with perhaps two weeks to live, to no symptoms of the disease in 3 months.

The second attached paper was “Oleic Acid, Deglycosylated Vitamin D-Binding Protein, Nitric Oxide: A Molecular Triad Made Lethal to Cancer” where patient

scans are shown of tumours reduced 25% in a week with GcMAF. Many of these papers are also available on the website www.gcmaf.se.

Patient tumours being reduced by 25% a week, on scans, is also most definitely a clinical result, Dr Wollaston.

Driving patients to thepoison of chemotherapy

120,000 of the 160,000 people who die of cancer every year could be saved if GcMAF was accepted by the NHS.

These people die because the likes of Dr Wollaston, the BBC, Cancer Research UK, the MHRA (who have big pharma directors on their boards) are suppressing the scientific evidence for GcMAF, to drive patients into the poison of chemotherapy, which maims and kills, but at £40,000 a round, makes big pharma $100 Billion a year.

Wollaston’s resignation?

It looks as though Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, who must have caused scores of thousands of deaths over the last 2 years by her deceit, is bought and paid for by the $2.9 billion big pharma lobbying system. Firstly we need her apology, then her resignation.

New measures to tackle air pollution in Westminster

Trains need guards

Westminster’s pro-active campaign

to raise awareness about the environmental and health dangers of vehicle idling is to continue into 2017, with new measures to tackle air quality is-sues being introduced.

Leaving a vehicle’s engine running (idling) while stationary for more than a minute is an offence which can result in an on-the-spot fine. It creates unnecessary emis-sions which contribute to high levels of air pollution in central London.

Engine idling can also create a noisy environ-ment, particularly affect-ing residents and local businesses. Persuading drivers to switch off

when stationary helps reduce levels of air and noise pollution.

Our “air marshals” have been speaking to drivers about how engine idling harms the environment, while our regular no idling action days have seen more than 50 locals trained to become “Air Quality Champions”. They have gone on to speak to more than 600 drivers in air pollution hot spots. These efforts will continue, with more workshops organised to highlight air quality issues.

Most drivers get the message and comply, but from 4 February 2017, Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) will be issued in the borough to repeat

offenders who ignore calls to cut their car engines when they are not moving.

Cllr Heather Acton, Cabinet Member for Sus-tainability and Parking, said: “Our residents and visitors are concerned about pollution. Improv-ing air quality is high on the agenda for West-minster City Council. We need to tackle these harmful effects on our health, while also un-derstanding the needs of those who move around central London.

“By speaking to drivers, making them aware of how, by switching their engine off when they are not moving, they can help cut air pollution,

we can be more mindful of our impact upon the environment and our health. These small steps are essential if we are to move towards a healthier, more liveable city which residents, visitors and workers can enjoy.”

Westminster City Council’s work is being supported by London cabbies who have volun-teered for engine idling action days. All new black cabs licensed from 1 January 2018 will have to be zero-emissions capa-ble, while no new diesel taxis will be allowed.

Richard Massett from the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association said: “Lon-don’s taxi drivers are help-ing to pursue improve-ments to London’s air quality by welcoming new zero emission taxis and supporting Westminster’s engine idling initiative. Both will help to bring about healthier condi-tions for all who live, work or visit London.”

Sarah Wollaston MP.

As fantastical as it may seem, a Terminsator style ‘rise of the machines’ has become a genuine concern for scientists like Prof. Stephen Hawkins.

While visitors to the city gathered to count

in 2017, the New Year’s Eve cleansing team patiently waited to begin their clean-up. 120 sweepers worked over night, utilising 50 vehicles including 15 refuse trucks and 32 mechanical sweepers.

By around 4.30am they had managed to clean up the area around the fireworks display in Westminster, before finishing the cleaning of the West End by 6.30am. They then handed over to the New Year’s Day Pa-rade team who continued the effort into the early afternoon.

Cllr Melvyn Caplan, Cabinet Member for City Manage-ment, said: “While thousands

of people have been enjoying all that Westminster has to offer during this Christmas and New Year’s, our waste and recycling services, along with partners at Veolia, have done an excellent job ensuring our streets are cleared and cleaned

during a busy festive period. 120 people worked overnight and then another team went on to clean up after the New Year’s Day Parade – an extraordinary effort. Our Winter Service Plan has also been in effect and con-tinues to ensure that our roads are fully functional no matter what the weather may bring.”

Last year we cleared over 85 tonnes of waste on New Year’s alone, which included an estimated 15,000 Champagne bottles. This waste was used as fuel to generate 45,050 kWh of electricity for London - enough to watch 376,000 hours of TV or travel the entire length of the Jubilee Line.

Westminster cleanup hailed a success

Operation Clean Up was launched in the early hours of New Years Day.

Vaccines do more damage than goodToday vaccines contain neurotoxins,

poisons such as aluminium, mercury and nagalase, which destroys your GcMAF and therefore your immune system; vaccines cause autoimmune diseases and force people to buy drugs for years to come.

Vaccines also contain mouse brains, tissue from pigs, insect cells, calf lymph, chick embryos, testicle cells, aborted human fetal tissue, cow serum, formaldehyde, aluminium phosphate, MSG, cancer cells and the cancer causing monkey virus, SV40. The body can’t cope with this number of injected foreign proteins.

The apothecaries from centuries ago were doing much less damage.

Big Pharma will only launch a drug or vaccine if it makes billions. And to make that much, it has to be patented, which means it has to be an unnatural substance. That’s why they usually fail.

Polio and Smallpox: the usual scientific fraud from Big Pharma

Vaccines big claim to success is they cured the world of polio and smallpox.

The truth is very different. 99% of people with polio recover without side effects and without treatment. Polio is actually prevented by improving sanitation, providing clean water, healthy food, and better hygiene, so the elimination of polio was happening before vaccinations arrived.

Polio vaccines created huge numbers of paralytic poliomyelitis cases, and autoimmune diseases. One region of India cured their 174 polio cases, and created 47,000 cases of acute no-polio flaccid paralysis with vaccines. But as the polio was gone, the vaccine was called a success.

The now distrusted Centre for Disease Control, or CDC, state the Salk polio vaccine was a modern medical success. But officials at the National Institute of Health were convinced that the vaccine was contributing to a rise in polio and paralysis cases in the 1950s.   Dr. Salk himself testified in 1976 that his live virus vaccine, which continued to be distributed in the US until 2000, was the “principal if not sole cause” of all polio cases in the US since 1961.

A majority of US States reported a doubling or more of polio cases after vaccination programs.

Dr. Edward Jenner created a smallpox vaccination by persuading James Phipps to take it. He didn’t

die, and Jenner persuaded the British Parliament to mandate his “vaccine” for national use. In the Philippines it infected 112,000 with smallpox and caused 61,000 deaths within two years of its being introduced. Jenner made a small fortune, and Big Pharma reports it as another vaccine success.

Vaccines failCanada is the most highly vaccinated

nation on earth, with 49 recommended vaccines for children. This Canadian generation is so ill it is the first to be predicted to die before its parents.

Half of the hundreds of thousands of mums with autistic children say it came on within two weeks of the Mumps Measles and Rubella, or MMR vaccine. The CDC fraudulently states this is not the case. The MMR vaccine makes €29 billion for the pharmaceutical companies, so doctors will still be coerced into recommending it. In some areas one in 25 children is autistic, and that figure is set to climb to one in 2 by 2025.The MMR Package Insert warns of side effects such as type-1 diabetes, thrombocytopenia, deafness, blindness,

and death. In 1987 the MMR vaccine Trivirix

caused deadly meningitis in Canada, who banned it. It was renamed Pluserix and launched in the UK. Then a mass Pluserix MMR vaccination took place in Brazil, causing an epidemic of meningitis.

Every year the flu vaccination hospitalises elderly people, and causes deaths.

The American College of Pediatricians (ACP) are the latest to warn against the Gardasil HPV vaccine, which appears to be causing 30 deaths a month.

They get away with it because, under the USA’s appalling National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, no pharmaceutical company can be sued for any damage done by a vaccine. In the year 2015, claims against vaccine manufacturers dismissed under this

act were $995 billion, just under one trillion dollars. This Act is proof the US government is assisting Big Pharma to commit murder for profit.

Quack drugs and vaccinesCalifornia, Mississippi and West

Virginia have passed laws to forcibly vaccinate all infants. In California they are compelled to have hepatitis B, hemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), measles, mumps, pertussis, poliomyelitis, rubella, tetanus and varicella.

Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease. In California, are babies known to be that promiscuous? The vaccine has 35 side effects, has caused hundreds of deaths, and puts a thousand children into hospital every year.

Forced vaccination will kill thousands more infants. There is evidence to suggest not one vaccine works. But they make billions for Big Pharma, and that seems to be the only thing that matters.

Doctors don’t seem to be particularly interested; but if you are one of the hundreds of thousands of parents whose children have been killed, or mentally or physically handicapped by

vaccines, it is devastating.Pharmaceuticals are a trillion dollar

industry, their lobby spend is $3 billion, which they use to buy politicians, control the boards of regulators like the FDA, the MHRA, and the CDC, publish disinformation, and brainwash doctors. Always do your own research, but remember most of the “science” you find on the web has been paid for by their lobby.

It is the big pharmaceutical corporations’ drugs and vaccines that are todays quack medicines.

For a plethora of further evidence, see the following web sites; www.greenmedinfo.com; www.vaccine-injury.info; www.naturalnews.com; www.vaxtruth.org; www.vaccineimpact.com.

Modern vaccines contain a variety of poisons, proteins and neurotoxins.

Westminster council have

announced the begin-ning of its annual street tree planting programme: putting in 150 new trees through-out the borough from November 2016 to March 2017.

The council currently manages 15,000 trees in the borough including 9,000 street trees and is committed to adding an extra 1,000 by 2020.

The iconic London plane is still planted where appropriate along with a wider range of tree species which help make the overall population of trees better able to cope with pests and diseases.

Cllr Heather Acton, Cabinet Member for Sustainability and Parking, said: “We are working to create a greener and more sus-tainable city, to improve

air quality and make our surroundings more pleasant for everyone. Trees are key here and we are committed to planting more trees and creating more green spaces. As part of this, we shall be consulting on our open space and biodiversity strategy - to make the city green and help it to thrive.”

Westminster has also applied for further funding from the Greater London Authority’s tree fund to plant an extra 40 street

trees over the next 4 months within our Marylebone Low Emis-sion Neighbourhood. The Westminster Tree Trust is also looking at match-funding new trees in the area.

The “Open Space and Biodiversity Strat-egy” consultation (out shortly) will give locals a say on supporting the borough’s plant and animal life, which in turn will help tackle issues such as harmful pollutants in the air.

Flight fromSaddam

For opposing the Iraqi leader, this university

professor had been marked down for endless torture and death. This true story

of how he survived will take your breath away

Dr. Qasim Albrisem

If there was to be one word in Arabic to describe Hell on earth,

perhaps it would be Alradwania. For at

the prison there, men turned into monsters. They unleashed terror and suffering on an unimaginable scale.

Hell is a mythical concept in religion,

but the pain and death endured by the

captives there was very much of this earth.

Countless thousands of ordinary Iraqis were

picked up off the streets and thrown

into Alradwania Prison in 1991. Out

of 50,000 detainees, only a few thousand survived, and of the

survivors only one was a university professor

and writer.

Readers have asked me why 10 of 11

US aircraft carriers are lined up in a row in dock allegedly for maintanence. It re-minds them of the bat-tleships at Pearl Har-bor. Readers ask if this could be an indication that the Deep State is planning a false flag at-tack on the carriers, as was carried out on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in order to get the US at war with the independent Muslim world, this time in order to get the US at war with Russia before Trump can re-store normal relations.

I don’t think so. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was real, if pro-voked. The deception apparently was in the

fact that Washington had warning but did not share it with the US Navy in Pearl Harbor.

The Battleships were outmoded weapons, and the aircraft carri-ers had been removed. It would be extremely difficult to blame a false flag attack on US aircraft carriers on

Russia. Indeed, if Russia wants to attack the US, the target would not be obsolete weapons such

as aircraft carriers.According to what

I have been told by former(?) intelligence officers, the aircraft carriers are in dock so that their copper wir-ing can be replaced by fiber optics. Apparently, the Russians have the capability to shut down the operating systems of our ships and aircraft that are copper wired. In behalf of this conclu-sion, there were news reports that a missile ship Washington sent to impress the Russian naval base in Crimea had all its systems shut down by the overflight of one Russian jet. Ac-cording to another news report, two Israeli US jet fighters were sent to

express disobdience to Russia’s controlled airspace in Syria. The Russians asked the Israelis to leave, and when they did not, the Russians shut down the fire control and communica-tion systems of their aircraft.

According to what I have been told, the Russians discovered that copper wir-ing permits them to disrupt the operating systems with certain radar frequencies built into their air control systems

If this account is true, and I lack the technical experise to judge what I have been told, we are presented with a test case of what we are told are Russian and Chinesa aggressive intentions against the West. With the US carrier task forces inoperative, this is a prime time for Russia to seize Ukraine and whatever else they

are alleged to want, and it is a prime time for China to take Taiwan and Japan if they want it. There is no Ameri-can Navy to deploy to stop them, and a nuclear threat from the clowns in Washington would mean nothing other than the complete destruction of the entire Western world, with the moronic idiots in Washington being the first to go.

Fantastic liesThe charges of

Chinese and Russian aggression are fantas-tic lies. China has not declared the Gulf of Mexico or the seas off the California coasts to be “areas of Chinese national interest,” but the killer bitch Hillary in the regime of the Nobel Peace Laure-ate declared the South China Sea to be “an area of US national inter-est.” This is provocation beyond provocation. No intelligent diplomat would ever make such a ridiculous and provoca-tive claim.

Russia conquered Georgia in response to Georgia’s invasion of South Ossetia, but released it and did not reincorporate the for-mer Russian province back into the Russian Federation where it had resided for 300 years. Russia refused the requests for rein-corporation from the Donetsk and Luhansk breakaway republics in Ukraine. Russia has not declared the Baltics and Eastern Europe to be areas of Russian national inter-est, but the US has and has incorporated them into Washington’s mercenary army, sta-

tioning troops, tanks, and missiles there with which to attack Russia. Russia has not responded in kind.

Who else butWashington

All of the aggression in the world stems from Washington. This is plain as day. How come so few see the obvious? Who else but Wash-ington has been at war since the Clinton re-gime murdering people in nine countries?

Why is the entire liberal-progressive-left helping the entrenched CIA Establishment demonize president-elect Donald Trump, whose stated goal is to normalize relations with Russia? Is this an indi-cation that the liberal-progressive-left is a CIA front? This possibility is not far-fetched. As it is a known fact that the CIA owns the American and European print and TV media, why would the CIA ignore the liberal-left “progressive” Internet media?

The rule is that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Clearly the Establishment enemy of the liberal-left is Trump’s enemy, so why is the liberal-left allied with its Establishment enemy against Trump?

The real question is: Does the US really have an independent liberal-left?

If so, where is it? The liberal-progressive-left has served as protectors of the fake 9/11 official story that a few Saudis uninformed by an intel-ligence service or a state apparatus outwitted all 16 US intelligence agencies, the National Security Council, the Pentagon, airport secu-rity, air traffic control, the US Air Force and Dick Cheney himself, along with Israel’s Mos-sad and all the intelli-gence services of the US Empire, and inflicted the most humuliating defeat on an alleged “su-perpower” in the entire history of the world.

Real left-wingAnyone stupid

enough to believe the official 9/11 story is not sufficiently intel-ligent to be qualified to be left-wing or even a sentinent being.

What the Western world hurtling to its destruction desperately needs is a real left-wing, a left-wing immune to emotional disabilities that blind it to reality.

The annual Winter Concert at DLD

College London proved to be the best yet with 20 students being awarded for their outstanding achieve-ments so far, whilst a spec-tacular display of talent was showcased.

Parents, teachers, staff and students gathered in the Atrium of the Westminster Bridge-based college to enjoy the annual show and to cheer on as students were rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

Superb poetry Master of Ceremonies,

Michael Brett welcomed guests and introduced the prize winners and an abun-dance of musicians took to the stage. From pianists, singers, bands and the uku-lele group, the atrium was filled with entertainment, not forgetting, superb poetry and prose readings.

This academic year, the college also raised money for Crisis at Christmas which helps people who are sleeping rough. A pres-entation was held by the Student Council to dem-onstrate the importance of helping those less fortunate and who may not have

somewhere to live or eat.A student who showcased

her excellent musical talents was also presented with an award. Dayanan Chumbur-idze, (16), gave a beautiful rendition of Warrior’s Song by Stephen Heller on the piano and captivated the au-dience with her ability. The GCSE student then went on to collect her certificate for her regular attendance and contribution to concerts

Students celebrated at DLD Winter Concert

London Councils has once again teamed up with the Federation

of Small Businesses to launch the fourth Small Business Friendly Borough Awards, aiming to show-case councils in the capital that go the extra mile for small businesses. The awards, now in their fourth year, provide an excellent platform for London’s 33 local authorities, including the City of London, to highlight their business-friendly policies and procedures. The closing date for this year’s nominations is 10 February 2017.

Award categories are:• Best All-Round Small Business Friendly Borough - This award com-mends councils for successfully im-plementing wide-ranging policies to support and develop the local micro and small business community.• Best Small Business Friendly Procurement to Support Local Trade - This award celebrates council pro-curement activities that have enabled local micro and small businesses to gain access to public sector and other local contracts.• Best Programme of Support for Small Businesses - This award recognises programmes of support around a particular theme, which have encouraged and supported the borough’s micro and small business community.• Best Small Business Champion - This award recognises individuals who have led work to support and promote small businesses in their borough. This award is open to both officers and members and separate awards will be made for each. Councils can nominate projects delivered in 2015/16 or 2016/17 in any of the award categories and

can submit nominations in as many categories as they wish, but these must be separate and clearly defined programmes. Councillor Peter John, executive member for business, skills and Brexit at London Councils, said: “I am very pleased to be launching this year’s awards in partnership with the FSB. Small businesses play a critical role in London’s economy. They account for almost 99% of London’s businesses and nearly half of the capital’s jobs. They are not only key wealth generators but are also an important part of their local communities. “London boroughs play an impor-tant role supporting small businesses to access good quality business advice and support, affordable work-space, business finance and public sector procurement contracts. I look forward to being able to celebrate the excellent work that London boroughs are doing to support small businesses in their areas.” Steve Warwick, London regional chairman, Federation of Small Businesses, said: “The awards are designed to celebrate the efforts of the Councils in supporting small businesses. At a time when small firms are being squeezed by the cost of doing business – particularly with significant business rate increases in 2017, it is important for councils to remember that micro businesses are a vital part of London’s ecosys-tem. Praising the measures which councils are implementing to reduce administrative burdens, and sharing best practice to create the right envi-ronment for micro and small firms to thrive, are critical for success.”

Westminster City Council is the first London borough to partner with

Veterans Aid to tackle rough sleeping. The partnership aims to make sure that no

ex-serviceman or woman ever has to resort to bedding down on the street.

Outreach workers will now refer any ex-service personnel directly to Veterans Aid, who will get them into emergency accommo-dation and make sure that they never have to spend a night on the streets.

Cllr Nickie Aiken, Westminster City Coun-cil cabinet member for public protection, said: “Nobody should have to sleep rough which is why we spend £6.5m on rough sleeper services in Westminster, far more than any other local authority.

“It is especially difficult to see those who have served our country ending up on the streets. That is why I am so pleased to announce that we will be the first London

borough to work in direct partnership with Veterans Aid. They have a superb record of helping ex-servicemen and women and I hope that this will continue to make a real difference in Westminster.

“If you encounter a rough sleeper that you are concerned about you can call Streetlink on 0300 500 0914 or download the app.”

Of the 2,857 rough sleepers seen by Westminster’s Rough Sleeping Team, 60 self-reported having served in the Armed Forces.

Over the last three years just over two per cent of all rough sleepers in Westminster claimed to be ex-services. This compares to four per cent nationally according to DCLG figures for Autumn 2015.

Outreach workers will refer those who say they have served in the forces to Veterans Aid who can provide additional funding and help to those with a service record.

Dr Hugh Milroy, CEO of Veterans Aid, said,

“I wholeheartedly embrace this partnership which will work on a number of levels. This charity’s operational HQ and Drop-In Centre has been in the heart of the Borough for over 60 years and we have been a former Lord Mayor of Westminster’s chosen charity. We share with the Westminster team a commit-ment to preventing and addressing street homelessness and the consequences of home-lessness – not by giving short-term handouts, but by creating enduring solutions.

“We have an excellent record in dealing with homelessness among veterans to the extent that is now a rare thing to find a genuine veteran on the streets. Our emphasis for some years has been on “no first night out” through prevention. By working in close partner-ship with Westminster we hope to take our prevention work onto a new level through direct referrals from Westminster. We have a system of “swift-intervention” that works and

recidivism among our clients is uncommon. We are deliberately offering our unique and effective service to help Westminster with its rough sleeping issue. We aren’t asking for money here, we just want to play our part.”

‘Greg’ was helped by Veterans AidAfter eight years in the Parachute Regi-

ment, and several years of rewarding employ-ment after discharge, 29-year-old Greg did not expect to find himself sleeping in a car.

A career soldier, with two tours of Afghanistan under his belt, he had a family and prospects, until a motorcycle accident changed everything.

Greg’s life quickly unravelled. His relation-ship broke down and injuries ended his security career.

Suddenly he was homeless, vulnerable and lost. Like many others in his position his only plan was to head to London.

In fact that is exactly what he did – but not to become a rough sleeper in Westminster. Greg was brought to Veterans Aid where, within minutes of meeting a caseworker ,his fears were allayed. Clearly he needed support and, most immediately, accommodation. For three nights the charity paid for Greg to stay in a hotel - and off the streets - until a place in its London hostel, was available.

He moved there in October to join more than 50 other veterans who would otherwise be homeless in London.

CEO of Veterans Aid Dr Hugh Milroy said, “Greg’s story is not unusual. We are an operational charity, and the work we do is frontline. People who come to our Victoria Drop-in Centre are desperate; many homeless or facing the prospect of homelessness. We can’t tell hungry, hopeless veterans to ‘come back in a few days’.

Figures published by London Trading Standards this week

showed that 15 businesses were fined a total of £168,579 in 2016 for selling unsafe cosmetic products.

The majority of the prosecutions concerned the sale of skin lighten-ing products containing dangerous and prohibited levels of hydroqui-none, mercury or corticosteroids. Labelling breaches and lack of trace-ability were also important issues.

Safety regulations prohibit these ingredients in cosmetics however, thousands of products containing them had been found and seized in a coordinated campaign by London Trading Standards.

The prolonged use of such prod-ucts can result in a number of health problems from skin thinning and discoloration to organ damage and even cancer.

A product called Grace Duo con-tained 18 per cent of the bleaching agent hydroquinone. This is be-lieved to be the highest amount ever found by trading standards in such

products. Another soap product, Faiza Beauty Cream, contained 0.54 per cent of toxic mercury.

The cases were taken by five Lon-don boroughs which prosecuted 17 directors along with their 15 compa-nies. The average fine was £11,239.

Illegal sales don’t just occur on the high street. London Trading Stand-ards Regional Intelligence Service has identified at least 15 online sellers of prohibited skin lightening products using eBay. Work is now underway to locate and tackle these sellers.

Company bosses who sell banned cosmetic products can be fined up to £20,000 per offence and sent to prison for one year.

Steve Playle, spokesperson for Lon-don Trading Standards, said: “Last year saw some great outcomes as a result of our coordinated campaign against illegal cosmetics and some defendants even had suspended prison sentences imposed. These penalties should make shop owners tempted to ignore safety rules think twice before putting profit over the

health and safety of their customers.”Councillor Tim Ahern, the Royal

Borough of Kensington and Chel-sea’s Cabinet Member for Environ-mental Health, said: “Thanks to the work of trading standards officers in other London boroughs, 15 busi-nesses have been fined for selling dangerous and illegal products.

“People have a right to expect that high street shops will only sell safe and reputable products. Consumers should always check the ingredi-ents of skin creams and never use a product containing hydroquinone. If the product doesn’t display the in-gredients at all, then consumers are advised not to use it. Our own trad-ing standards officers are vigilant and will always look to take action if these dangerous products are of-fered for sale in a shop or online.”

From January 2017, new planning rules

will ensure that all conversions of shops to services such as estate agents, employment agencies and bureau de change in Westminster’s high streets require planning permission.

The measures follow a 27% increase in the number of estate agents in Westminster last year – the largest seen anywhere in London.

The sudden influx has changed the character of several areas, reduc-ing variety in the city’s shopping districts which make these areas less at-tractive for shoppers.

The ‘Article 4 Direction’ will allow the council to limit particular indus-

tries from dominating retail space, ensuring that the city’s shopping districts continue to serve their commu-nity with a wide range of businesses and retailers.

Cllr Robert Davis MBE DL, Westminster City Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Built Environment said: “Westminster is a wonderful patchwork of historic villages and local town centres and our high streets are the beating heart of each of those communities, treasured by residents and visitors alike.

“In the last year, we have, for example, seen an increase in the number of estate agents

in Westminster that has put the character of some centres at risk. These measures will protect variety on our high streets and improve everyone’s shopping experience.

This is not a blanket restriction. Some finan-cial services, like local bank branches, which provide valuable local services will be encour-aged, but if we do not act now, our high streets are under threat of be-ing overrun. The action we are taking will help us strike the right bal-ance so that Londoners continue to have a range of shops and services on their doorstep.”

Transport for London (TfL) is urg-ing all customers to check they are

using the right travel product to ensure they do not spend more than necessary to get around the city, with the annual fares revision on 2 January 2017. As confirmed earlier in 2016, the Mayor of London has frozen all fares set by TfL until 2020. This means that everyone travelling solely by bus or tram in Lon-don will not pay a penny more than they did in 2016, while pay as you go journeys on the Tube, DLR, Emirates Airline and rail services where TfL fares apply will all be frozen. Hire and access fees on Santander Cycles will also be frozen to encourage more people to try cycling to get around London. However, the Mayor only has the power to set fares on TfL services. Travelcards, and the associated daily and weekly caps, are set to increase in line with RPI infla-tion as they are set by the Government in agreement with the private train operating companies (TOCs). As confirmed earlier this year, these will rise across the country

by an average of 2.3 per cent from 2 Janu-ary 2017. TfL is now reminding all Londoners that they should check they are still buying the right ticket and paying the correct fare for their travel. The launch earlier this year of the Mayor’s two-for-one Hopper fare for buses and trams, and daily capping, means people could be better off using pay as you go to travel around London. In addition, customers are reminded that if they are travelling across London and do not travel through zone 1, they can avoid paying a higher fare by touching on a pink reader at specific stations when interchanging. Shashi Verma, Chief Technology Officer and Director of Customer Experience at TfL, said: “Freezing fares helps make our network more affordable for Londoners. Customers are advised to check they are not unnecessarily spending money on a paper ticket when they could be saving significantly. Using pay as you go with Oyster and Contactless means that you should never have to pay more for your travel than necessary. We want to make

the system as simple and easy to use as possible and will be making a range of fur-ther improvements in the coming years.” London is a world-leader in transport ticketing, having been the first city in the world to have a successful integrated tick-eting system in Contactless and Oyster. Contactless payments were launched by TfL in September 2014 and, since then, more than 600 million contactless jour-neys have been made, using cards from more than 90 countries to travel across TfL and National Rail services in London. Contactless payments are conveni-ent as they offer anyone travel at the cost of a single adult pay as you go fare, and is cheaper than buying a paper Day Travelcard or single tickets. Fares are also capped so that when you reach the daily and Monday to Sunday weekly capping limit, you can carry on travelling around London without paying a penny more. To check the latest fares, or to register your Oyster or Contactless payment card, please visit www.tfl.gov.uk/fares

8The UK has becomes the first

country in the world to officially recognise parkour as a sport, after the Home Country Sports Councils approved Parkour UK’s application for recognition of the sport and the National Governing Body.

The Sports Minister, Tracey Crouch, alongside the President of Parkour UK and a founder of parkour, Sebast-ien Foucan, announced the formal recognition of parkour as a sport and Parkour UK as the recognised NGB for the sport in the UK. The announce-ment was made at LEAP Parkour Park, England’s largest outdoor parkour facility at Westminster Academy in London. The park was launched by Westminster City Council in partner-ship with Parkour UK in Jan 2012.

Parkour, also known as freerunning or art du deplacement, is the non-com-petitive physical discipline of training to move freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, climbing and quadrupedal movement. In practice it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, includ-ing functional strength and fitness, balance, spatial awareness, agility, coordination, precision, control and creative vision.

A pair of trainers andyour imagination

Parkour motivates people to get active. Participants can take part in the sport whenever and wherever they want, without needing to meticulously manage their busy diaries, buy special equipment, join a club, or book a pitch or court. All you need is a pair of trainers and your imagination to #GiveParkourAGo!

The recognition of parkour as a sport, and Parkour UK as the National Governing Body (NGB) by the Home Country Sports Councils - Sport

England, Sport Northern Ireland, sportscotland, Sport Wales and UK Sport follows completion of the UK recognition process by Parkour UK.

Parkour UK, was established in 2009 by the nation’s parkour community and the City of Westminster. It began the formal recognition process in March 2013, with the pre application for recognition approved in March 2014. The full application for recogni-

tion was submitted in August 2015 and was recommended for approval by the UK Recognition Panel in Dec 2015. During 2016 the Boards of the Home Country Sports Councils approved the full application for recognition, with the final confirmation of recognition being confirmed in October 2016.

Recognition will enable parkour groups and organisations affiliated to Parkour UK to apply to the home country sports councils for lottery or exchequer funding to support the de-velopment of the sport locally in each home nation.

Minister for Sport, Tracey Crouch, said: “I want people to get out there and find the sport and physical activity that appeals to them and parkour is certainly a fun, creative and innovative

option. I am pleased it has been recog-nised as a sport, giving it the platform for further growth in this country with Parkour UK as its governing body. The sport promotes movement, using the great outdoors as a space to get active in, and I encourage people to don their trainers and give it a go.”

President of Parkour UK, Sebastien Foucan, said: “This is brilliant recogni-tion for a discipline that started off as

child’s play with my friends almost 30 years ago. The beauty of parkour is that everyone of all ages can do it respect-fully in almost any environment. We celebrate activity and playfulness whilst constantly challenging our mental and physical limits. It is more than just jumping, it is a health driven way of life.”

As the National Governing Body for parkour, Parkour UK provides governance and regulation of parkour throughout the UK, acts as custodians of the sport, protects the rights and freedoms, and promotes the interests of freerunners, their member organisa-tions and the UK community.

Parkour UK works closely with partners to encourage and develop the safe and appropriate practice of park-our. The organisation also works with local groups, organisations, national organisations/bodies, councils and constabularies.

Open and inclusiveSince its creation, Parkour UK has

successfully developed and promoted an open and inclusive organisation, encouraging people of all ages, back-grounds or abilities to #GiveParkourA-Go with their member organisations across the UK.

Parkour UK has also forged a close relationship with the education sector, developing programmes around vid-eography and photography and cross-curricular links around the history and culture of the sport. It has developed literacy projects that use parkour to teach the French language – Parlez Vous Parkour?

Chief Executive at Parkour UK, Eugene Minogue, said: “Parkour has come a long way since first arriving in the UK in 2003 with the seminal documentary, Jump London and Jump Britain in 2005, both staring Sebastien Foucan. This was followed up by Jump Westminster in 2007, which led to the

creation of Parkour UK. Parkour is now in the vast majority of primary & secondary schools, colleges and uni-versities all over the UK. The discipline has now been formally recognised as a sport with Parkour UK recognised as the National Governing Body. We have built a qualified workforce of over 600 people, we have led the develop-ment of a British, and now a European standard for Parkour Equipment. As a result, there are now more than 50 Parkour Parks across the UK. All this in just over 7 years is an amaz-ing achievement and testament to the unique and diverse Parkour/Freerun-ning community in the UK, which is world leading!”

The Parkour UK community, which is how Parkour UK describes its membership of affiliated organisations & practitioners, covering all four home nations of the UK is incredibly rich in its diversity.

Parkour celebrates female participa-tion and has also demonstrated huge success engaging with children, teenagers and families. There are also examples of people over the age of

60 practicing parkour and reaping all the benefits associated with regular participation in this incredible form of physical activity.

Parkour UK and its community are pioneering innovative programmes, including: Parkour for Mental Health, Parkour for Older People, Family Parkour as well as parkour academies. Parkour offers something new, innova-tive and engaging to those who want to get active but may find mainstream sports or activities unappealing.

Director of Sport at Sport England, Phil Smith (for and on behalf of the Home Country Sports Councils) said: “As the number of people involved in regular sport and physical activity continues to grow, choice becomes increasingly important. Parkour has already been offering something dif-ferent for a few years now, but what recognition means is that Parkour UK is taking responsibility for its organi-sation. The safety and enjoyment of those taking part is paramount, so congratulations to Parkour UK on achieving the standards and showing their ambition to grow even further.”
