1) 1st week back – KICK OFF – Introduced to this terms theme ‘May the Force Be

With You’ 2) Should have researched

careers and completed your A3 Goal Setting Sheet in their

workshop time.

3) Should be working on the ‘The Force be with You ’ tasks and goals in the relevant subject

areas. (Art, Drama, Food, Geography, History, Music, Product Design and RE)

The mission is: • For your mission you are going to focus

on a natural disaster or a man made episode.

• This can be a recent event or a catastrophic historical event.

• You will create and present a news documentary report covering this event.

• It is important that you remember that in addition to your case study you should look to answer the big questions as well.

Natural

• Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes are all natural disasters.

Man Made

• Disastrous events such as harmful chemical spillage, industrial accidents, detonations, biological or chemical attacks, plane crashes, wars and so on, are all man-made disaster.

1. Are we ready for the impact of global climate change and the chance that we might have more floods, more hurricanes and tornadoes?

2. Will this lead to even more unrest and migration of populations?

3. How well are we managing all this and what more do we need to do?

Your form tutors will have these questions on display in your form rooms.

• You should decide on who is going to be in your team of news reporters.

• This can be no more than 5 people, and everyone must contribute

• This can be discussed in coaching sessions with your form tutors

• In your themed subjects, your teachers will be getting you to think about the big questions in the mission and how the work your doing relates to these and how it will help you answer them.

• Workshop lessons will be used to work on your news reports (e.g. writing scripts, deciding on roles, practicing, getting advice from others and teachers)

How will the mission be evidenced?

• Enrichment day is on 30th November (1 month today!)

• Your news reports will be performed on this day

• All pupils will need to help produce a section of script for the news report

• You should try to include an expert review of the situation and at least one interview.

• You should try to make your news report link together.

You will only reach the highest of levels (gold and platinum) if your report really explains what has caused this disaster and what has been done to help. You might also want to say how things could have been

better.
