May The Force Be With You!
Motion: is a change in
position, measured by distance and
time.
•Starts, stops, or changes the direction and speed of an object.
Force•Any push or pull on an object.
Gravity The Force of attraction between any two objects in the universe.
The force which pulls all objects towards the center of the Earth.
CentripetalThe Force that pulls objects toward the center keeping them in a circular motion.
Buoyant Force
An upward force exerted by a fluid.
–Lift–Drag –Thrust
Friction Friction is a force that causes or
stops motion when two surfaces rub against each other.
•Static friction – friction force that acts on objects that are not moving.
•Sliding friction – friction force that opposes the direction of motion of an object as it slides over a surface.
•Rolling friction - friction force that acts on rolling objects.
•Fluid friction – friction force that opposes the motion of an object through a fluid.
Types of friction:
Static Friction
Sliding Friction
Fluid Friction
Rolling Friction
•Forces occur in pairs•Forces are either:
Balanced Unbalanced
Balanced Forces• Do not cause a change in motion
• They are equal in size and opposite in direction.
Unbalanced Forces• Always cause a change in motion
• They are not equal and are opposite in direction.
BALANCED FORCES
UNBALANCED FORCES
•That’s it for today …
