CHINA TRAVEL GROUP Spring Break 2013 9555 Huakai Street Waimea, HI 96796 Phone: 3386830 http://waimeaca.hidoe.us or http://www.waimeacanyonmiddleschool.us Dear Parents/Guardians, Community Members, and Students, Testing, testing, testing – yes, it is 4 th quarter. Our tests include the HSA Bridge Test (all students in both Language Arts and math), SBAC field test (all grades in both Language Arts and math), 3 rd round HSA science testing (8 th grade only), and End of Course exam for Algebra I students. WCMS is asking that you show your pride in the work you have done this year and take these tests with an attitude of “trying the best I can do” and pride in your accomplishments. Take your time and think. Thanks to all who came to the Augie T. Live concert sponsored by our P.T.S.A. It was a night of getting together and laughing. Your P.T.S.A. continues to sponsor necessities for grade level excursions as well as providing a “thank you lunch” to our teachers/staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Our P.T.S.A. is currently seeking interested parents for the next year board. Please contact me if you are interested . I want to continue to remind everyone of changes on campus. Every day is a WCMS uniform day; there are no more free dress Fridays. We continue to request that students, staff, and visitors to be particularly careful on campus as the new Photo Voltaic (PV) system continues to be installed on the roofs of buildings M, N, O, and the Library. Please be aware of the orange fenced off areas. We will also be getting our wireless system installed for wireless Internet starting on May 19 th (HOORAY!!!). Both project managers, the PV and wireless, have assured WCMS that the projects will not be in conflict with any of our testing. And of course, our electronics rule has changed. In a pilot phase, students can use electronics appropriately before and after school only. At no time, can students use their phones to take pictures or videos. Grade levels will have a staggered return to school for SY 201415. Registration day for all grades is July 1415, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon in the Band Room. Parents,  Guardians  and  Students:

As  summer  quickly  approaches,  the  school  year  will  soon  come  to  an  end.    I  would  like  to  thank  you  for  another  great  year  at  Waimea  Canyon  Middle  School.

As  the  school  prepares  for  a  new  school  year,  it  is  important  that  the  Health  Room  also  prepare  by  updating  all  health  records  that  is  required  for  each  student  to  attend  school.      Please  check  with  your  child’s  physician  that  all  of  the  required  immunizations  and  or  health  forms  are  updated,  especially  upon  entering  7th  grade.

The  Department  of  Health  clinics  are  located  in  Kilauea,  Lihue  and  Hanapepe.  The  Kauai  Community  Health  Centers/Ho’ola  Lahui  Hawaii  is  located  in  Waimea  and  Kapaa.    Both  agencies  provide  health  services  for  the  community  that  include  immunizations.      If  you  are  interested  please  call  241-‐3387  for  DOH  and  241-‐0100  for  Kauai  Community  Health  Centers.

Good  luck  to  all  of  the  8th  graders  as  they  continue  a  new  journey  towards  high  school  and  always  remember  to  reach  for  the  stars  no  matter  how  far  they  may  be!  It  has  been  a  pleasure  providing  health  room  services  to  your  child  while  at  Waimea  Canyon  Middle  School.    Again,  thank  you  for  supporting  your  child  by  providing  a  healthy  life  style  for  your  family.      Have  fun  and  enjoy  the  outdoors!

Meal  Account  Balance

The  meal  account  balances    at  the  end  of  the  school  year    will  not  be  deposited  until  September  or  October.    This  will  affect  the  8th  grade  students  who  will  be  transferring  to  Waimea  High  School.    A  recent  audit  of  the  School  Food  Services  Branch  will  require  schools  to  change  the  way  they  process  the  transfer  of  the  end  of  the  year  meal  account  balance.    As  a  result,  the  availability  of  the  students'  meal  account  balances  at  their  new  school  will  be  delayed.        Think  Yellow,  Go  Green

You  can  help  make  an    environmental  impact  by  recycling    all  outdated    telephone  directories  during  the  Think  Yellow,  Go  Green  Recycling  School  Contest,  which  runs  to  May  16.  Please  send  your  old  phone  books  to  the  school’s  front  office.    Tell  your  neighbors,  friends,  and  family  about  it.    Bring  those  old  books  from  your  workplace,  your  garage,  your  closets!    Help  Waimea  Canyon  School's  efforts  in  the  contest  and  help  the  planet!    BoxTops for Education

Thank you, families and friends of Waimea Canyon Middle School, for clipping BoxTops for Education labels and sending them to school. We are at $770! Our goal is $1,000 which will be used to purchase technology for the school. Please continue clipping and saving BoxTops labels over the summer. When we reach $1,000 we'll keep going for the next $1,000. ʻLittle strokes fell great oaks.ʼ
