• The Upper School awards day andperformances will be held on the same day atthe same venue: the Goethe Institute. • The school will construct a new classroomon the First School site as part of our plannedexpansion and increase in pupil numbers.
•Miss Sarah will be offering a 3 week summerschool for children aged 2 to 6 years old.
• There will be a few staff changes for nextyear: we say farewell to Miss Sarah, Ms.Mary, Kevin and Mrs. Hodges, Ms. Dixonand Mr. Robinson. I am sure that you willwant to wish them all the best for the future.

On Friday the 25th of May the First School enjoyed a Rainbow Day. The childrenwere very busy making rainbow wands, a rainbow collage, rainbow biscuits andrainbow fish. The children loved the colourful water play and in the afternoon wegathered together in the garden to enjoy a variety of colourful, tasty food.
In the First School we love to recycle and create wonderful objects with your oldjunk so please keep old birthday cards/buttons/bottles/large and smallboxes/plastic bags. Please pass them on to your child's teacher for us to re-use.

Last month, the World Scholar's Cup rolled into town and pupils from GIS decidedit was high time their school was represented. The World Scholar's Cup promoteslearning, co-operation and achievement by challenging participants to explorechallenging topics. This year's main topic was 'A world in flux'. Nat (Year 10), Koki(Year 10) and Aliff (Year 9) formed a team, and set about preparing for the eventby researching and reading material provided by the organisers. The day itselfwas a great experience for the pupils with over 100 competitors from schools asfar away as Jakarta and Singapore. The tasks throughout the day were aimed attesting the pupil's writing, debating, reasoning and general knowledge skills.Although it was a long and intensive day, the team worked really well and had afantastic time, coming away with eight separate awards. The World Scholar's Cuphas only been coming to Bangkok since 2008, and it is growing all the time, withtwice as many competitors at this years event as last year.Hopefully more pupils from GIS will be encouraged toparticipate in future events, and take part in what is aunique opportunityto interact and learnalong side otherschools andnationalities.

Garden International Schoolheld a lively Chinese SpeechContest. All the studentswho participated are non-native Mandarin speakers. We had two divisions ofspeakers, the Primary groupand the Secondary group. The students woretraditional Chinese costumesand spoke very fluent
Chinese. All the students were very confident. For example, Amina fromYear 9 delivered a very enthusiastic speech. She spoke about her trip toBeijing last year with her teachers and friends from Garden and how thiswas a most unforgettable trip.Of the Judges group, Mr. Fowler is a Chinese expert. Another fourSecondary students are all excellent students in Mandarin. Parents, teachers and students cheered them on from the sidelines. All involved –judges, teachers, students and parents – came together to create a verysupportive atmosphere for those speaking at the contest. As well as creating a special occasion for the school, this kind of speechcontest inspires and motivates students in their studies of Mandarin. They now have more confidence and renewed interest in ChineseLanguage and Culture.
