Thank you to our Webmaster, Jim Rupany

I would like to thank and acknowledge our Webmaster, Jim Rupany (husband of our member, Bev Rupany)

for his support of our chapter. Jim does a great job of keeping our website updated. We will be revising the

website as an ongoing project, when time allows. Toni.

Programs

Please remember to bring a guest to the May meeting held at Chandler’s in Schaumburg. If you will be bringing something to ex-

hibit at the President’s Art Exhibit, please mark it on your reservation form and if it requires an easel or stand you will need to

bring that to display your piece(s). This is always a wonderful meeting showing all of our members’ love of painting.

Next on our Program calendar for this year is our annual paint-in which will be held again at the Red Door Church in Bartlett. This

year it will be held on the third Saturday in July (July 21, 2012). We will be hosting a local area artist, Catherine Coy. Cath-

erine will be a guest at our May meeting at Chandler’s. We will have a table with some of her many projects and samples of pro-

posed projects for our July Paint-in. More details will be forthcoming as they are completed. We are planning a potluck lunch

with each member bringing an item to share with the attendees.

Thank you again for your support of Windy Brushes and sharing your love of painting with others.

Toni Girten

MAY RAFFLE

The May raffle will be one of our fantastic bag raffles featuring beautiful paintings generously donated by our members, plus

items showcasing the abundant creative talents of our members (jewelry, knitting) , plants, gift type items, etc. So please donate to

this raffle and then purchase raffle tickets to win wonderful items to take home. If you wish to donate home-baked items; please

include a list of ingredients with the item for people with allergies.

President’s Art Exhibit

Over the years, Windy Brushes members have shared some of their very beautiful artwork. Our May meet-

ing is the time to again showcase and share your work. Remember, to bring an easel (tabletop or freestand-

ing) to better display your work. Cards will be furnished for your to write a short description of your work;

name, medium, teacher if from a class, etc. Fill out one card per piece and place it by your work.

In order to clear out the Windy Brushes storage unit, we are trying to empty it by the end of September. This will save

the expense of the storage shed and put the monies earned from our raffles toward keeping expenses to members down.

Are you or do you know of someone who works with children’s or adult groups, church groups, etc.

Do you know of a facility that has such a program – who, what, where? Or are you looking for items to do the meeting

table centerpieces and/or a Christmas table. We will continue to have regular raffles at the September and November

meeting. If you are answering yes to these questions, please contact me and we can arrange a time to meet at the storage

unit so you can select what you want. The storage unit is located off I-90 and Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates.

Windy Brushes will continue to have raffles, but will be focused in a direction requiring less heavy lifting and lugging.

life...a great gift for any occasion. Gift Certificates will be available for purchase at the all

chapter meetings. Please see Toni or Jan Kuehne (new Treasurer) at the registration table at each meeting.

SHUTTERFLY—WINDY BRUSHES PICTURES Toni has set up a Shutterfly.com account for Windy Brushes of Northern Illinois, which

allows all our members to have access to photos from past meetings, seminar photos, etc. This gives everyone the ability to

download photos for use in our newsletter and for chapter members to access the photos. The photos are online, so it does hold

the files on the website and doesn't take up space on anyone's hard drive, except those you choose to download. It also allows

you to select the size of each photo that you wish to download. Address for this site is: http://windybrushesofnorthernillinois.shutterfly.com

CHAPTER DISPLAY—Kathy Miller, Chair (2011—2012)

" Centerpieces" Hello everyone. Just a reminder that the May 5th centerpieces will be done by Edna Devore and Cathy Plomb. Chris Lee volunteered to do Septembers so all the meetings are covered. Thanks again everyone for volunteering. Camille"

Just a reminder that there will be no Chapter Display until the September meeting. How-

ever, there will be an Art Show at the May meeting where you can show off your latest

accomplishments if you wish. (Check elsewhere in the newsletter for more information

about it.)

If you didn’t receive your free raffle ticket for the March meeting

because of running out of vouchers, please let me know and I will

be sure that you receive one at the September meeting.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Their old familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet the words repeat

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,

The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along the unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head:

"There is no peace on earth," I said,

"For hate is strong and mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,

With peace on earth, good will to men."

Till, ringing singing, on its way,

The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,

Of peace on earth, good will to men!

2012 Christmas Party

It is never too early to think of Christmas! We are organizing and planning our 2012 Christmas celebration. It will be a wonderful

gathering. Once again, we will gather in the large room at Chandler’s with The Legacy Girls as entertainment. Since planning is in

the initial stages all suggestions are wanted and welcomed for consideration. These should be directed to either Toni Girten or Doro-

thy Carbonara.

The theme of the 2012 Windy Brushes Christmas celebration is the Bells and Lights of Christmas based on the poem by Longfellow.

As is our current custom, members have been asked to decorate individual tables. The following have volunteered to coordinate table

committees: Bettie Slazyk, Sue Jacobs, Chris Grable, Catherine Plomb, Denise Renault, Ann Johnson, Toni Girten, and Chris Lee.

We need two more table coordinators to volunteer to make a total of ten tables. Please call either Toni or Dorothy if you are able to

help.

As is the custom, all members are asked to bring painted items for the raffle. This raffle is not only outstanding as one of our major

fund raisers but is noted for the beautiful pieces painted by our members.

Thanks so much to all who have volunteered. It will be a beautiful way to launch the Season.

WEB SHOPPERS - WAYS TO HELP SUPPORT SDP

Goodsearch, GoodShop, GoodDining, Shop for Museums

Another great way to donate to SDP everyday is to use the internet search engine Goodsearch. Using Goodsearch, every

search you perform contributes one cent to SDP. While this may not seem like much, just consider how many searches you

do in a week, and then multiply that by sixteen thousand members. That’s a lot of pennies! GoodShop, GoodDining, and

Shop for Museums all offer a way to shop for gifts and everyday needs at competitive prices, while also giving back to

your non-profit of choice. These programs partner with thousands of local and international restaurants and shops including

Apple, eBay, Amazon, and many more. Every dollar spent at these locations donates a percentage back to SDP.

You can go to the SDP website home page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and these search engines are listed. Click

on one of the engines, register and select Society of Decorative Painters as the organization you wish to receive the dona-

tions. Then when you start any and all online shopping, see if one of the companies listed with these websites carries what

you are looking for. This may take a couple of extra minutes to do, but every transaction done through one of these sites

contributes additional income to SDP.

We are thrilled to announce an exciting new benefit for all SDP members. As you know, we have been hunting for new

member discounts to help you offset the cost of your membership dues, and we have now finalized a deal with the interna-

tional online art supplier Dick Blick. Our members can now enjoy a 10% discount off all of their art supplies purchased

online including papers, brushes, canvasses, a huge selection of paints, drawing mediums, studio furniture, and much, much

more.

To use the discount, simply enter the code EN1202 at the online check-out.

The discount is only available online, and cannot be used together with any other offer. Certain exclusions may apply. For

more information, to see all of the available products, and to begin using your discount, please go to: http://

www.dickblick.com/landing/specialoffer-EN1202.

Thank you for your loyalty to SDP. We hope to bring you many new benefits throughout the year. If there is something you

would like to see SDP do, please email your suggestions to: [email protected]. You can find information

about this and all all of your member discounts online in the Members' Only section of DecorativePainters.org.
