Clover BunchClover BunchClover BunchClover Bunch Springtime Happenings
This year, The Clover Bunch's theme is Health. As a result, both our March and April meetings focused on learning different aspects of our health and safety as well as others. At the March meeting, Sharon Hinson taught everyone Adult and Child CPR. Fearlessly, everyone ages 12 and up became certified. In April, along with helping with the Bike Rodeo at the Locust Spring Festival, we also held our regular monthly meeting where Angie Bumgardner from the Locust Police Dept spoke on internet safety, bullying and home alone safety. In May we will share our presentations with each other and in June plan to have a guest speaker on mental health. We continue to give a helping hand for the Providence Church Benevolence Ministry by making senior food bags every month as an effort to do our part for Hungry to Help. In addition, we will lead the Food Drive at the Beach Blast 5k in Albemarle on May 7th. As you can tell, The Clover Bunch continues to stay busy this Spring.
Clever Clovers: This year the Clever Clovers project area is performing arts. In March the members made plans to perform community events such as the summer reading program.
During the April meeting they did mouth exercises to help with enunciation an activity from Theater Arts project record book. In June the club will provide entertainment for both the Locust and Oakboro Public Libraries.
Super Sparks
For the March meeting the Super Sparks learned
about pushbutton, slide, toggle and rocker switches
and built circuits with them.
During the April meeting the club members
investigated insulators and conductors.

Oakboro Cruisers Oakboro Cruisers 4H Club decided this year was going to be a "Behind the Scenes" theme. Members started their 4H year with a visit to Hunter Farms located in High Point, NC. Hunter Farms produces ice cream, milk products, and even the super secret "Frosty" formula for Wendy's! Dorothy Faust was a wonderful tour guide, as she explained the many products that are prepared daily. She emphasized that it is a very sanitary facility where the associates even have to wash their shoes before entering the milk production room. The tour ended with ice cream and smiles for everyone!
February found all members taking a tour of Stanly News and Press where they watched as the newspaper crew ran the printing press just for them! SNAP publisher Sandy Selvy did a terrific job explaining all the different jobs that must be done for the newspaper to be distributed. Members even spoke to staff news reporters, who explained how they go about getting the news to folks in a timely manner. One reporter told of a story where a gentleman took the "Big A Challenge" at Andy's Burgers Restaurant in Locust where he had to eat 21 burgers! After eating all of this, he had a milkshake and was ready to do it all over again! 4H members were amazed at this story and wanted to hear more!
For their March meeting, 4H members were treated to hear their own voices on the "air" at 1010 WSPC News/Talk Radio 1580 AM WZKY Oldies Radio Station in Albemarle. DJ, Leon Warren, explained all of the different formats, equipment, and even industry changes in radio. It proved to be a very interesting day!
