    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On 29th March, 2010, the Central Committee of the National League for Democracy decided not

to re-register under the unjust electoral laws and political party registration laws. And Daw Aung

San Suu Kyi said in her messages presented in the Central Committee meeting that the NationalLeague for Democracy is not dissolved even though it is forced to be abolished.

Just after the release of electoral laws, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said through her lawyer that"These laws are challenges not only for the NLD but also for Burmese people. We need to face

these challenges in a united manner. People need moral strength."

NLD's positions described in the Shwegondaing Declaration include:

    (a) Unconditional Release of All the Political Prisoners including U Tin Oo and Daw AungSan Su Kyi

(b)Review of the Draft Constitution (2008)(c) Recognition of the result of the Multi Party Democracy General Election (1990)(d)Unconditional dialogue participated by the decision makers should be commenced

immediately based on the principles of mutual respects and national reconciliation.(e) All inclusive free and fair general elections held under the international supervision.

    Policies Statement of NLD leaders

Leaders of the National League for Democracy especially Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Tin Ooand U Win Tin expressed their positions on some issues related to current situation during

meetings with lawyers or interviews with exile media.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi occasionally expressed her position in meetings with her lawyers. On 14

May, Daw Suu expressed deep concern over the water crisis currently people were facing. Sheurged the NLD to expand its program to help those in need of water.

On 3 June, during meeting with her lawyer, Daw Suu stated that the National Democratic Forcesformed by some former leaders of the NLD is not an affiliated party and not related to the NLD.

It is simply one party among 40 parties which are newly registered. She refused to comment

further on political parties taking part in the upcoming elections.

An important position Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made on 11 June is that people have the right not

to vote in the elections, just as the people have the right to vote. On that same day, Daw Suu also

commented on Mr. Jim Webb's views on the elections as it is just his personal opinion, and nothis official position as chairman of the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee of Senate

Committee on Foreign Relations. On 9th June, Mr. Jim Web made a comment on elections as

people should vote in order to build the future a step at a time.

On 14 June, during the two- hour meeting with her lawyers, Daw Suu said that it is the

responsibility of government, political parties and the people to nurture the talents of young

    people.

Her last comment on the coming elections was made on the 27 July when she met her lawyer, U

Kyi Win and U Nyan Win. Daw Suu also said that elections to be held in late 2010 is absolutelyunlikely to be free and fair because there will be no enough time for political parties to campaign

and the date for elections has not been set.
