Dear Turnaround Team Administrators and Teachers, I am excited to bring you this issue of the “Turnaround Team Times” newsletter. We hope that you will read this publication carefully because it contains important, valuable infor- mation that will help all of you in the work that you do to improve student achievement. I am particularly pleased about some of the great professional development that will be offered to the teachers in our network near the end of the summer. Read this newsletter carefully for more information. Then, mark your calendars and prepare to join us as we get ready to kick off the 2013-2014 school year! Meanwhile, the 2012-2013 school year is still in session. As we begin this last month of school, it is vital that you do not “relax” your expectations for the students. Just because test- ing is finished and summer is near does not mean that teaching and learning are finished. We still have several weeks of school and they are very important to ensuring that your stu- dents master the curriculum and are prepared for next year. It is also important that you all work together to make your school a great learning place for students. This month, I would like to expand on this standard: A team effort for the success of all students” While this list is certainly not all encompassing, these are some of the things that indicate that this standard is in place in a school. Everyone, including staff, students, and parents, know exactly what is expected of them and strive to carry out those expectations All faculty and staff members understand the vision and mission of the school and know and take pride in carrying out their specific role and responsibility to help to accomplish it All faculty and staff members take responsibility for the safety and security of every stu- dent at all times A master schedule is in place that provides embedded collaborative meeting times for teachers Teachers meet regularly to discuss the curriculum, identify collective goals, develop strate- gies to achieve those goals, gather and analyze relevant data, and learn from one another PBIS, ABIT, and other teams are in place and functioning well to meet the needs of the school and students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your dedication and commitment to the children in your care. Your hard work is much appreciated. Middle school teachers will meet at Truman on May 7 in room 101 from 2:45-5:00. Regular math teachers are invited to participate. Below are some web sites that will help teachers as they become more familiar with Common Core State Standards.

development opportunity!

A Deeper Look at the TAP Instructional, Design and Planning & the Learning Environment Rubrics Session Objective: By the end of this 2-day training, teachers will develop a more in-depth understanding of the TAP rubrics: Instructional, Designing and Planning, and Learning Environment.

Save the dates: Potential dates will be within the last 2 weeks of July—stay tuned for exact dates and times.

These sessions will allow career teachers to receive extensive Professional Development

focusing on the three main TAP rubrics. During this training career teachers will learn about each rubric and make connections to their classroom practices. Participants will also observe a lesson through video of a JPPSS teacher. Using the TAP rubrics, par-ticipants will score the lesson.

Anyone interested will need to sign up in Avatar.

This training will be designed for newly hired career teachers in a TAP school, AND teachers who want to strengthen their knowledge of the TAP Rubric.
