CANCELLATION OF CLASSESThe Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any class, event, or activity. Decisions to offer advertised activities are based upon registration totals.Please register for programs early so minimum class participation can be met. Refunds will only be issued if the class is cancelled by the Recreation Department or if an entire session of classes that meets continually cannot offer make-up classes. AQUATICSSCHOOL OF FINS: SWIM AND SAFETY LESSONS Ages 6 months-8 yearsThe Blue Ash Recreation Center is pleased to bring the School of Fins: Swim and Safety Lessons in 2017! The School of Fins: Swim and Safety Lessons will emphasize the importance of safety in and around the pool, the basics of freestyle and backstroke and much more! Each session is one week in length with each lesson lasting 35 minutes. Each lesson will include safety skills, stroke development, and safety topics. Lessons will be taught by the Blue Ash lifeguards who are excited to teach your child about safety and swimming.

Class Level Descriptions:Guppies: Ages 6 months-3 years Spend quality time bonding with your child in our class specially designed to bring you closer together. The instructors will focus on safety, blowing bubbles, introduction to floating, kicking, entering and exiting the pool, and much more! Play and learn with your child as you explore the water together. Children must be at least 6 months old and are required to wear disposable swim diapers if not yet potty trained.

Mini Blue Fins: Ages 3-5 years The Mini Fins class is designed to build comfort and confidence in the water by introducing basic swimming and safety skills with assistance from an instructor. Students will explore the water by blowing bubbles and getting their heads wet, and learning to combine reaching and pulling their arms with straight leg kicks. Other skills taught in Mini Fins include water bobs, introduction to treading actions, front and back float and how to recover from a floating position. Students must be at least 3 years old and comfortable without a parent. Students will spend time in water depths of 3 to 4 feet.

Lion Fish: Ages 4-6 yearsThe Lion Fish class focus is on skills requiring less assistance from the instructor to become a more independent swimmer. Skills include submerging the head, retrieving objects below the surface of the water, jumping from the side of the pool, treading actions, front and back gliding, introduction to rotary breathing and combined stroke on front and back for 5 yards. Students must be at least 4 years old and will spend time in water depths of 3 to 4 feet.

Parrot Fish: Ages 5-7 years Students in the Parrot Fish class will begin to swim independently with little assistance from the instructor. Skills in this class include an introduction to rhythmic bobs, further incorporation of rotary breathing during front stroke, and combined stroke on front and back for at least 10 yards. Students will also be introduced to deep water with jumps from the side of the pool, treading, headfirst entry from the side of the pool and entering the pool from the diving board. Students must be at least 5 years old and will spend time in both shallow (3-4 feet) and deep water depths (5-13 feet).

Blowfish: Ages 6-8 years Students in the Blowfish class will focus on stroke improvement and refinement and breath control, including deep water bobbing. Students will also practice surface dives, underwater swimming, treading water, diving from the side of the pool, and will be introduced to other swim strokes (optional). All students must be able to swim independently and be comfortable in deep water.

Students may advance to the next lesson regardless of age. To advance, the student must complete the lesson assessment which can be con-ducted by the instructor or supervisor.

AQUATICS SAFETY SATURDAYS Ages 5+ years Students attending a Safety Saturday can expect a fun filled, educational morning learning age-appropriate safety skills. They will learn about life jacket use, how to help others with different out-of-water assists, survival strokes (elementary backstroke and side stroke) and much more! Safety is the top priority for the Blue Ash Recreation lifeguards and we’re excited to share some easy techniques to help you and your children stay safe in and around the pool. Parents are required to attend with children ages 5-9 years.

BLUE FINS RECREATIONAL SWIM TEAM Ages 5-18 (Members Only) The Blue Fins Swim Team is for students who have graduated from the Parrot Fish class or who are more advanced and ready for the next challenge in the world of swimming. This is a 10-week swim team that emphasizes fun while swimmers make friends and learn higher levels of swimming, including additional strokes.

The Blue Fins Swim Team practices up to 3 days a week and competes against other local swim teams in the Northern Suburban Swim League (Evendale, Sharonville, Springdale, etc.). During practice, team members can expect to build endurance, focus on stroke refinement, dive off starting blocks, and work on flip turns. Fee: $100 for the first swimmer, $90 for the second family member and $80 for additional swimmers in the family (must be sibling). Registration: Members Only: April 3, 2017Try-outs for all 8 and under swimmers will take place May 16-18- registration after coach’s approval

FREE FITNESS ORIENTATIONSThis 45 to 60 minute session is designed to introduce you to our equipment and the basic components of exercise. It will include completion of a workout card that our fitness staff will note seat heights and other information for your future use. Orientations are given by appointment only. To schedule an orientation call or email Kent Rasmussen, Fitness Center Manager, at 745-8435 or [email protected]. New members are encouraged to take advantage of this FREE service. Please note that anyone under the age of 16 is required to complete an orientation before using the fitness center.

FREE INJURY SCREENINGS Oxford Physical Therapy Center (OPTC) is happy to offer FREE injury screens to all visitors. During your injury screen, expect to spend 10 minutes with one of the OPTC physical therapists to discuss your injury or nagging ache/pain. They will provide their recommendation to you for next steps in order to help you get back to your active lifestyle injury/pain free! If something has been bothering you, this is the perfect time to get it looked at. Call the fitness manager, Kent, at 745-8435 to register in advance. PERSONAL TRAINING One of our nationally certified personal trainers will design a specialized program and work one on one with you to help you attain your personal goals. First, you will need to schedule an initial consultation. The consultation consists of a meeting in which we will establish your fitness goals, and take you through a series of assessments (wear workout clothes). Before your first “hands on” training session your personal trainer will use the information acquired during the initial consultation to design a program for you. The number of training sessions you purchase is dependent on your needs. Individual trainer information and fees can be found below. GROUP TRAININGInterested in something a little more affordable than personal training and more personalized than a group fitness class? Our trainers have specific hourly rates for training individually as well as with groups, but if you have 3 or more people and are interested in committing to a longer time frame (typically between 4 and 8 weeks) then we offer more affordable individual rates for group sessions. Rates may vary slightly depending upon the type of session that is being offered (Yoga, TRX, Cycling, Kettlebell, General Boot Camp, etc). If you would like to create your own group training class with 3 or more of your friends, feel free to contact any of our trainers directly.

CLASS LEVELS

To help with selection of the appropriate level fitness class based on your abilities, classes have been rated as follows. Anyone is capable of taking any class on the schedule, but some classes are taught at a different pace than others and

Beginner Level classes are suitable for anyone at any fitness level but specifically target participants searching for a low impact, slower paced class. Expect basic choreography and moderate intensity. Intermediate Level classes are suitable for anyone but may require modifications for some participants. Expect a focus on coordination and control of your body, more complex choreography, and a faster tempo.

Advanced Level classes are suitable for those with an athletic background or who are experienced with group fitness classes. Exercises may always be modified but will be presented at a very challenging level.

Designed to allow chi, or energy, to flow freely throughout the body, Tai Chi will improve balance, health, awareness, agility, and coordination.Hatha Yoga B IHatha yoga takes a minimalist approach to burning calories, contracting muscles and stressing the body’s cardiovascular system while encouraging concentration on subtle energy flows that fosters an inner awareness of body position. A hatha yoga practice centers on static postures and fluid motions, emphasizes controlled breathing that draws attention inward and low-impact drills meant to strengthen body and mind. TRX Classes B I ATRX training is a type of training that uses your own body weight and gravity to build strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, core and joint stability, all while preventing injuries. Ocean Life Pastels CampJump on in with us as we explore the deep blue sea. We will create a detailed, pastel composition focusing on a different ocean-themed subject each day. Join us to see what we find on our journey. These classes will be messy fun, so dress appropriately.

Anime Cartoon Drawing CampWe will learn to create our own original Anime characters. We will use a variety of facial expressions and action and movement to illustrate our scenes. On the final day, we will use what we learned to draw a large comic book type scene in Anime style.

Enchanted Academy Drawing CampBe prepared to be whisked away to an enchanted wizard academy where nothing is as it seems. Amuse yourself in the not-so-ordinary life of the academy with a plethora of cartoon drawings. All camps include a t-shirt, afternoon snacks, and days full of exciting and educational activities including science experiments, crafts, group projects, games, and more! Dinosaur Camp Grades K-1Dig up some fun as we learn all about dinosaurs. Explore different types of dinosaurs, dig up and identify fossils and show off your prehistoric knowledge as we play games and have a RAWRing good time!

Harry Potter Camp Grades 2-6Grab your broomstick and fly to Blue Ash Parks and Recreation Center for a magical week at Hogwarts! Practice your potions skills, meet fantastic creatures and learn to duel. Costumes are encouraged but not required.Date: June 19-23

Crazy Chemistry Grades K-1 & Grades 2-6Bring out your inner chemist and spend the week getting your hands dirty as we dive into some messy science and icky, sticky experiments. Mix and blend your concoctions and find out which chemicals react to cause flashes and explosions.
