Ways to Prevent Elderly DehydrationSenior dehydration is a common health issue that can lead to bigger problems such as urinary tract infections and low blood pressure. Proper hydration helps to keep the body and vitals regulated.

Fluid intake is key. Families and caregivers need to be cognizant about risks and plan ahead to make sure aging loved ones are properly hydrated. Here are some tips to help encourage fluid consumption and reduce the risk of elderly dehydration:

Administrator’s Corner by Brittany SchwabauerMake it meaningful! Country Side Living strives to make our residents feel as though their lives have meaning, purpose and importance. We challenge this by creating predictable, yet flexible daily routines that place emphasis on self-care activities. We have core activities that are basic self-care tasks such as eating, dressing, bathing, grooming and toileting. There are necessary activities such as natural sleep, rest and privacy that help reduce stress and regain energy. We include essential activities such as communication, movement and touch that create health and purpose in life. And we have meaningful activities that include work, play and recreation that are stress free, give joy and purpose to all individuals involved. Meaningful activities are created to allow each resident to experience something engaging. They are designed to support their current strengths and abilities. It is important to remember that the desired outcomes of an activity are the positive feelings and enjoyment that the resident feels. This is their moment, their window of happiness. Make it count!
