MYTH: Hangovers Are No Big Deal…..FACT: Heavy drinking rocks the central nervous system. Ittinkers with brain chemicals -- leading to headache, dizziness, and nausea -- and sends you running to the bathroomso often you become dehydrated. The morning-after price can include a pounding headache, fatigue, cotton mouth,
queasy stomach -- and a weakened immune system. MYTH: Hangovers Are Gender-Blind FACT:Don’t go crazy with free drinks on Ladies' Night. If a man and woman drink the same amount, the woman is more
likely to feel the effects. That’s because men have a higher percentage of water in their bodies, which helps dilute the
alcohol they drink. MYTH: Wine is the Gentlest Choice FACT: Red wine contains tannins, com- pounds that are known to trigger headaches in some people. Malt liquors, like whiskey, also tend to cause more se-vere hangovers. If you're worried about how you'll feel in the morning, the gentlest choices are beer and clear liquors,
such as vodka and gin. MYTH: Liquor Before Beer FACT: It's the amount of alcohol you drink (not the
order of your drinks) that matters most. Standard drinks -- a 12-ounce glass of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, or a 1.5-ounce "shot" of liquor -- have about the same amount of alcohol. Don't be fooled by the size of your drink or by any
saying about alcohol use that includes the phrase "never fear." MYTH: Coffee Is the Cure FACT: A lotof coffee leads to more dehydration and could make your hangover worse. it's best to sip water and sports drinks.

Hello everybody! I hope this finds you all doinggood. Keeping cool on some of these hot days withsome sweet tea is always nice just sitting in my chairunder the tree. It’s pretty quiet considering the
amount of traffic on Hwy. 331. As long as everyone pays attention to sudden stops or
turning onto side roads. Please pay attention while driving, there are so many new peoplecoming through, give them the space needed for they may not know where they are going.
A lot has been happening in my personal world. Gathering information, people come tome asking for help or what I think would be the best person to call for whatever. I have built up quite a list of helpful people within all the areas of this county. I guess after 8 yrs, they recognize me more. Feel free to call anytime, I do what I can.
I write this Editorial, with a heavy heart. I have many unanswered questions, when wehave had someone dear to us commit suicide recently. It makes me wonder why? (Only 21years old). We all know that someone who is different, shy or introverted or stays at homeoften, for they don’t feel accepted. Or do they feel they have any true friends?
Who doesn’t question that? When you have a small family, friends are hard to come by,
people you can trust. Please, I ask of you who read this to stop and think a moment ofsomeone you haven’t seen in a while that you care about. Stop by and make sure theyknow you care. Even if for only a mere phone call, comforting words in this Kaotik Worldwe are living in is far and few between. Raise your kids right, they will return to help you.
Even as many of us paint a smile and do our Best each day to find something that makesus smile, even singing an old song. The older I get, the memories come to me with eachold song I hear. I know all the words to such a variety of genre, it amazes my kids how Iremember so much. I say we all do remember things. Moments in History, sports, Carsand the actors we grew up with on TV, who are now passing away seems like every week.To say the world is changing is an understatement. People are getting colder and being
more theft like, from your trust to your $$. The number of people I know of personallywho have died this year is already now at 11. That is besides the actors and musicians we
felt we knew so well. Only to find out they died from the hands of the Doctor they trustedtoo. Is that the game we all play as we get older? Accidental overdose is a real issue too.
The greed of the dollar is become more important than someone’s true “well- being”.Heartless individuals who are more concerned with how much they can make off of youthan to see “HOW” they can Help you. From mechanics to builders, we have seen and
read plenty of stories over the years about these jokers to whose the ’crack smokers’. By printing about these types of incidents helps people you never know the heartache of beingripped-off. (Left unfinished for someone else to say). Well, if the other guy didn’t do thisor that, it wouldn’t cost so much. But to rework someone else’s mess is costly. It is not ourfault that you hired who you did. But just like me. When will you know who is good attheir work and will back it up? Help you fix if anything goes wrong? That’s when you
normally get discouraged to doing any remodeling or expanding your wonderful home. You read so often in the news lately of young kids defending their parents from a rape/ burglary cause they know how, when, where and why you need a gun in the house. Edu-cating them about guns is for they own good. That 6 year old blew away a Thug, period.
I was talking with a retired Col. At the Base the other day. He agreed with me, that I feelthat all young teens should serve a minimum of 2 yrs active duty. It makes you grow up,appreciate where you live here, even more the good ol’ USA. To build military up doesn’t
mean war but if so we are the one’s not to mess with. We are the superior Nation in thisWorld, undoing what Obama has done embarrassing us on the World stage. I think Don-ald Trump will be firm in stance when it comes to making deals or undoing the deals sowe are not continually paying these countries to attack us? How much sense does thatmake? The 28 pages released of 9/11 is very disturbing. I say, you must know the truth!
I truly hope you all enjoy this little newspaper I put together with you all in mind. Some-times the story is not always happy, but let’s learn to show the change in direction so that both the North side of the Bay feel as equal to the South Walton people. 80% or higher isthe number of employees who live on the North side, yet work in the Southside. This will be changing ever so quickly this year and next. The number of businesses forming aroundthe new Publix on Hwy. 331 in Freeport it looks as if this will become the hub for stop- ping and shopping before you deal with tourists on the Southside.
Someday soon, we will have the amenities of hotel lodging for those sports teams thatcome to play in 3 day tournaments. The families who love to travel with their kids will nothave to be so separated by distance to be a spectator/ supporter of the youth sports. I havealways asked the city of Freeport Sports director and or the Mayor to post a 1/4pg Ad
listing upcoming sport events. Sign-ups for soccer, stuff like that. Maybe if enough of you parents who would like to see that information also listed here, speak up to them. E-mailsare easily discarded, but if enough of you showed desire to see it and how much of a bene-fit for spectators to know of too. Right now, as it stands, if you don’t have a child involvedin the sport itself. You will not know anything. A simple ball game to watch in the shade.Sports programs should be an asset to have families want to move here for they is so muchto offer, but how would they know if you don’t Advertise it? It’s that simple people read.

Office Issues Statement on Florida
Supreme Court Workers’
Compensation Rulings
Today, the Florida Supreme Court issuedopinions in two cases with a potential impacton workers’ compensation insurance rates. InCastellanos v. Next Door Company, theFlorida Supreme Court declared the statutorymandatory attorney fee schedule unconstitu-tional as a violation of due process under both the Florida and United StatesConstitutions. Until the legislature addressesthis decision, attorney fees will be evaluatedunder the “reasonable” award
standard articulated in the Murray v. Mariner
Health decision.
Additionally, in Stahl v. Hialeah Hospital,
the Florida Supreme Court decided not tohear the case and discharged jurisdiction.Thismeans the First District Court of Appeal’sopinion in this matter, which upheld otherelements of the workers’ compensation law,
stands.
The impact on Florida’s workers’ compensa-tion system is unclear at this time. The Officewill be working with the National Council onCompensation Insurance (NCCI), which files
rates on behalf of Florida’s workers’ com-
pensation insurers, and other stakeholders, toassess the impact of these decisions.
“Our Office remains dedicated to putting
Florida’s businesses and injured workersfirst. We have worked proactively over theyears to bring workers’ compensation rates
down for Florida’s employers. Limiting at-torney’s fees has been an important factor in
reducing workers’ compensation rates. Alegislative remedy will be required to preventsignificant increases in rates and we lookforward to working with all parties affected
to bring about a sensible solution,” statedFlorida Insurance Commissioner, Kevin M.
McCarty.

Support what ever cause youcan, in any way that you can. No need to wait for it tocome to you, you probablyalready know of someonewho has died from a form ofcancer or a terminal diseaseof some sort.Being kind to people is astart. The epidemic sweepingthis county is heroine andmeth. It’s easy to detect a
“tweeker”. Someone alwaysfigidy “on the move”.Up at 3-6 am still going fromthe long day before? Some ofthese people are now running
wide open for 3-4 Days thenfallout for 3 days. Then backat it again…..that is until theycaught.Ask the police how manyrandom stops turn up drugneedles and pipes? Thosewho aren’t doing illegaldrugs are on “legal drugs”
prescribed by a DR. 1 Beer, plus the med’s. Be careful.
THE MORNING PLUM: If the polls areright, Donald Trump will deal the NeverTrump forces a potentially fatal blow inIndiana today, and Hillary Clinton willdivide the state’s delegates with BernieSanders — reinforcing the sense that Trump
and Clinton are hurtling towards an epicgeneral election battle. Trump is veryexcited about this prospect. As he put it onthe campaign trail: “Folks, I haven’t even
started yet. Now I’m going to start focusingon Hillary. It’s going to be so easy. It’s
going to be so….. great.” No, it isn’t.

THE SPOTLIGHT (CHRIS ALVARADO) This issue is a “must see”
entertainer who has national prestige as both singer/songwriter and luthier. Havingknown Chris for a couple ofyears now, I promise you hisshows do not disappoint. Youcan find a list of his songwriteraccomplishments and local show times atCHRISALVARADOLIVE.COM and his artistry ofguitar building at DRIFTWOOD-GUITARS.COM
“My influences in music mostly stem from artistslike John Mayer, Jim Croce and James Taylor. I
prefer a more minimalist approach to both my live performances and my recordings”, said Chris.
When I asked him about juggling home life, workand music, he had this to say. “Your work is going tofill a large part of your life, and the only way to betruly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what youdo. If you haven’t found it yet, don’t settle, as with allmatters of the heart, you will know it when you findit.”
Chris is a self taught musician and master luthier(guitar builder). Which in itself is quite an accom-
plishment. “ I’ve worked hard at always improving atwhat I do. I am my own worst critic. Not that I don’t
think I’m good, but because there’s always room for
improvement”. Its not surprising to me that he hasshows booked all the way into September at The Bayrestaurant at the foot of the 331 bridge in Santa RosaBeach. His smooth, intelligent approach to his performance and songwriting make Chris a true localtreasure. Support local music and venues that do so.Make your plans now. Get up get out and when you
see Chris, tell him I sent you. Eddie Littlefield
Ways to Boost Your Daughter's Self-Esteem
In a culture saturated with digitally altered images of impossibly thinwomen, raising girls with high self-esteem can be daunting indeed. As
parents, you have great influence — both by what you say and what you do.
Model body acceptance. Moms have a huge impact on their daughters' body image. Don't ask, "Do these jeans make me look fat?" or obsess outloud about food or put your appearance down. Make your daughter me-dia literate. "Watch TV with her and talk about what you see," "Help herdevelop a critical eye through which to decode and filter media mes-sages." Don't raise her as a "pleaser." Encourage her to stand up forwhat she needs and wants. "Create opportunities for her to use her voice.""Ask 'What do you want?' Let her make a choice and then honor thatchoice." Start team sports early. Research shows girls who play onteams have higher self-esteem. "There's a very common correlation, in myexperience," "between girls who play team sports and girls who sufferless with low self-esteem because they are looking to other girls for theirvalue, and within, as opposed to looking to boys for validation." Moms, don't borrow your daughter's clothes. "You want to let her have her
own style, her own look," Direct your praise away from appearance. "I think that we need to make a very conscious effort to balance ourcompliments about a girl's appearance with compliments about who she isand what she DOES in the world," Dads: Don't treat your daughter likea damsel in distress. "When fathers treat girls as though they are thesefragile, helpless little beings," Your role is to look good so a man willsweep in and save you.' Instead, give her the opportunity and the tools — to change her own tire, to use her voice, speak up for herself, to playsports, to be able to brush herself off and get back up. I think it's a goodmeasure to say, 'If I would do it with my son, I should be prepared to do it
with my daughter.'"

with any questions. Healthmark ranked No. 1 By Ron Kelley
Healthmark Regional Medical Center continues to get superlativescores when ranked alongside other Florida hospitals by the Hospi-
tal Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems(HCAHPS). The HCAHPS survey is the national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients' perspectives of hospital care, inconjunction with the federal Department of Health and Human Ser-vices Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The rankingscome from the hospital in-patients themselves and every hospital inAmerica receives HCAHPS scores.
Healthmark Regional Medical Center was recently ranked No. 1in the state of Florida for having the cleanest rooms and bathrooms.
This news was also published in Becker’s Hospital Review. According to the report, Florida's average rate for patients report-
ing that their rooms and bathrooms were "always" clean was only
70 percent. The National average was 74 percent. Healthmarkscored a phenomenal 88 percent.
In achieving this honor, Healthmark actually scored higher thanMayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida Hospital in Tampa, West-chester General Hospital in Miami, Palm Springs General Hospitalin Hialeah, and others. Healthmark Chief Operations Officer GeraldBeard said, “It is very satisfying for Healthmark to have beenrecognized in this way. Clean, sanitary conditions should always bemaintained at any hospital and all our staff take this rule seriously.”
Environmental Services Director John Ard agreed, saying, “Ourhousekeeping staff works hard to make sure everything stays cleanand fresh. We commend Housekeeping Supervisor Phyliss Davisand staff for helping us achieve this recognition.”
This is not the first superlative HCAHPS ranking the hospital hasearned. Healthmark was recently ranked No. 2 in the state ofFlorida and No. 153 nationwide for overall patient satisfaction, bringing national recognition to northwest Florida and its only sin-gle-owner hospital in the Panhandle.
“People don’t usually expect a 50-bed hospital in DeFuniakSprings, Florida to achieve such incredible rankings,” said Beard,
“and they are surprised when it happens. We are not surprised, though we appreciate the recognition. For us, maintaining the high-est standards in the state is just another normal day.”

I wanted to share this letter that my son wrote to thestaff at his middle school in honor of TeacherAppreciation Week. It speaks volumes for whatthese dedicated people provide for our childrenevery single day.Dear FMS Teachers and Staff,
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week,we, as a student body, wanted to take time to giveyou the well-deserved thanks that we should begiving you every day. You all have one of thetoughest jobs in the world, yet do not get to hearhow important and life changing you are to all of us.
Over the years, you have become more to us than just teachers and staff, you have become our family. While we occupied desks in your classrooms oroffices, we watched and learned from you. Welearned not only the curriculum you taught but thelife lessons you handed us.
You guided us to become better people byshowing us that to each of you, we were more than just your students. In turn, you have been more thanour teachers; you have been our nurses, our parents, our sounding boards, our counselors, our mentors, our friends, and most of all, our heroes. We knew
that we were important to you and by knowing that, your impact on us did not end the minute we leftyour classroom. Your support carried us throughour worst days and helped us understand that wecould tackle the obstacles we faced that often times, our friends knew nothing about. You guided us toreach further, try harder, stretch our minds, and become better people one class period at a time.
We think about how scared we were as beginning 5th graders, unsure of what to expect andhow to act. You stood in the halls with a smile on
your face, even on your roughest days, letting usknow that we would survive. We wish we couldthank you the way you deserve to be thanked, butour meager student allowances could not begin to pay you back for what you have given us. I wouldlike to end with a quote that truly sums up ourappreciation:
“I would thank you from the bottom of myheart, but for you my heart has no bottom.”
