Announcements 1. We invite every church member to the time

of Prayer, every Wednesday 7 pm. A Prayer Group is also meeting at North London Church every Wednesday morning 10am-12noon. You have an option of “shifts” to come and interceded for our church family, for our city, for leaders. We have seen miraculous answers to prayer, and experienced the goodness of God, connecting to His Mystery and presence in prayer.

2. The Sabbath School Council will be meeting TONIGHT, May 28 at 6:00 pm, before the Church Business meeting. The council met last Sabbath to draft plans, and needs all teachers and superintendents to meet for discussing how we are to improve the Sabbath School as our Mission and outreach venue.

3. Church Business meeting is called for May 28, Saturday night, starting with sundown vespers at 8 pm. This summer we will re-shingle the roof, to prepare for the interior renovations in the worship centre and in the fellowship hall. Facility development will be discussed, with a possibility of selling the current property and moving to a larger. Your presence is needed to help making right decisions.

4. Today we are hosting pastor Abner Lopez, the youth pastor of the Windsor SDA Church. He will continue this afternoon with a dialogue session with youth.

5. Adventist Youth Camp for Western Ontario – July 1-4 in Plymton Wyoming, Ontario. Registration fee is $50 per person (food included) Ages 13-30 are welcome. Two guest speakers, Wanito Bernadin & Massiel Davila. Anticipated attendance is 80 people, if more are registered, additional capmsites will be provided. Transportation will be organized by the church. If interested in attending – contact Stepan Golovenko or pastor Alex.

6. TOMORROW! From 11 am to 4 pm @ Springbank Park. Enter from Commissioners to the North Street Entrance. Bring your games, food, and fun to share.

7. 2011 is the Year of Mission. Next Sabbath, June 4th at 6 pm pastor Alex will continue Mission 316 class, speaking on communicating the Gospel to the animistic tribal cultures, focusing on the work in Africa, and relating to Native American First Nations way of life. Mission is our purpose, and is not optional for a healthy Adventist church.

8. The annual Simcoe is on June 10-11, 2011 at Norfolk County Fairgrounds, Simcoe. The main speaker is Pastor Lonnie Melashenko, former Voice of Prophecy speaker/director. Pastor Sung Kwon, executive director of Adventist Community Services, North American Division, will speak on the camp theme, “Young Enough to Serve”. Dr. Mansfield Edwards, Ontario Conference president, will lead the main Sabbath School discussion.

9. Membership Update. Second reading: Transfer IN: Mayfair Appiagyei, from Columbus Ghanaian SDA Church in Ohio.

10. Pathfinders will be holding a Fundraiser Yard sale on June 12 toward the Camporee cost. Bring your extras, declutter the house, and sponsor a Pathfinder.

11. Next Lord’s Supper will be served Friday night, June 17th by elders Mantiri and Munro.

12. June 18th during the worship hour pastor Alex Golovenko will present Friendship Evangelism workshop.

14. CELEBRATE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN OUR CHURCH! On June 18th, during the worship hour, we will be celebrating the year-long accomplishments of the children (ages 0 - 12) and youth (13 - 25) in our church. Parents, grandparents, or other family members can register their children and youth for this special recognition day. Please fill out a card with the child's/youth's name and age and special accomplishments over the last year and drop it off in the box in the foyer marked "Celebrating Our Children & Youth". Accomplishments come in all different forms depending on the age of the child for example: learning to walk, learning to cross the street by themselvs, learning to swim, learning to read, overcoming an obstacle, learning to drive, graduating from highschool/university - the list is endless! Our young people are valuable members of our church and we would like to recognize as many as possible so we encourage you to register those special young people in your lives by the deadline of June 11th. If you would like to make a donation towards this special recognition day, or would like more information, please contact Lucy Simoes.

15. VBS, it’s almost that time again and we are looking for volunteers to work as leaders and assistant leaders. VBS this year is on July 18 – 22 for children ages 4-12 from 5:30-8 pm. If you can help; please contact: Doris Van Leeuwen @ (519) 452-7073. Thank You.

16. Our church will be camping at Dalewood Conservation Area on Friday June 3rd to Sunday afternoon, June 5th. There is still room to sign up, so please talk to Don Topper or any member of the Social Life Committee for more information. We should be getting some nice sunny warm weather by then!

Pastor’s Blog. Toward Missional Church...

How challenging is your discipleship?

Do you declare your faith in the public square? This past Wednesday night I had a unique opportunity to participate in a meeting

with 15 representatives of faith communities of our city discussing the new policy of Accommodation for faith based practices at the Thames Valley District School Board. A female Jewish orthodox rabbi, new to town, coming from Ohio, a Muslim imam from the Oxford mosque, First Nation leaders, Baptist, Pentecostal – spoke about their concerns for the public educational system.

I had a chance to speak on matters of belief in creation not being discriminated against by evolutionary teaching, about students right to ask for a substitute literature readings if assigned books include witchcraft or other materials contradicting to Christian value system. An interesting discussion was facilitated toward the end of the meeting on the definition of faith – people from different religious groups do not like to hear words “faith” or “creed” used as a binding legalistic system of rules to be followed as obligations. Even the word “religion” is not welcomed. But all agree that faith is a “way of life,” and “spiritual relationships.” The dialogue will continue, until the new policy is in place, due this summer.

And as I reflected and shared my experience with some I heard different comments. From “will never happen” to “Great! About time.” Is this another gambit by the Provincial Board of education before the election to get faith communities distracted from demanding funding for church schools in the province where only Roman Catholic education is sponsored, along with the Anglican system which has became “public”? Should we seriously look forward to secular venues becoming more open for Christian witness? Or should we continue developing an alternative system for educating our children in order to preserve our values, and instruct the next generation?

This week we also met with the task force of volunteers from all three Adventist congregations in London considering the opportunity of purchasing the 77 Tecumseh West property of 2.2 acres with 25,000 sq.ft. building. We prayed, talked and listened. One thing emerging positively - the vision for a Multipurpose Community centre for outreach, a place through which we would impact community. The school is only one of “branches” for the evangelistic work of serving community needs. As Day-Care for children was mentioned, so was the idea for a day-care for seniors. A Kindergarten, Christian bookstore with a unique selection of books, music, and other media, health-education centre, a community integration centre for new immigrants....the meeting carried beyond the allotted time as people were sharing their dreams for a Missional Church.

You may not be familiar with this term – it is an emerging term for churches that exist for Mission, that are not self-serving and go out of their comfort zones to transform the community with Christ.

2011 is the year of Revival for Mission. This means much more than learning about mission work at our monthly seminars. It is becoming missional. It is about making our faith seen, felt, present, reachable, incarnate in the community. The world is changing, and God is present where change is. Are we, the church, being present too? I challenge you to pray specifically for one thing for the remainder of this year – for God to give you a personal involvement in mission.
