Opening Hymn – Glorious in Majesty
Verse 1.
Glorious in majesty,
Holy in his praises,
Jesus, our Savior and our King.
Born a man, yet God of old,
Let us all adore him:
Filled with his Spirit, let us sing.
Refrain
Living is to love him, serving him to know his freedom.
Come along with us to join the praise of Jesus.
Come to Jesus now, go to live his word rejoicing.
Verse 2.
Victory he won for us,
Freeing us from darkness,
Dying and rising from the dead.
Living with the Father now,
Yet he is among us:
We are the body, he the head. (Refrain)
Gathering of the community
Allelujah, Christ is Risen!
Christ is Risen indeed! Allelujah!
We gather on the unceded and ancestral lands of
Coast Salish nations, let us pray that Christ’s grace
and peace will be with us.
May we be ministers of the reconciling love of the
Risen Christ.
May our hearts be filled with joy. Alleluia!
Children’s Story
Gloria:
Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, gloria, alleluia, alleluia
Risen, ascended Christ,
Fill your church on earth with compassion,
So that all may find forgiveness and
know your love,
to the glory of God.
Amen.
First Reading: Acts 1:6-14These verses tell of the risen Christ’s conversation with his disciples on his last eve with them. He gives them a promise that they will receive the Holy Spirit.
Let us hear what the Spirit is saying, Thanks be to God.
Psalm 68 (paraphrased)
Refrain:
All realms of creation
now sing with elation.
Sing praise to your Maker,
O sing evermore.
Arise, Lord, and hasten,
All woe, swiftly chasten,
As smoke in the whirlwind
So drive it away!
While malice shall perish,
Your goodness we cherish,
With joy shall the righteous
All sadness betray!
Sing praise to God only,
You poor folk and lonely,
For out of compassion
God cares for us all. (Refrain)
The heav'ns, in their glory,
Resound with their story
Of God's matchless power
All ages to be.
Ascribe to God wonder,
Whose voice, like the thunder,
Can shatter the stillness
And call us to praise;
Whose spirit life gave us,
Whose mercy cans save us,
The Source of our being,
The Joy of our days! (Refrain)
Second Reading: Poetry – by Eugene H. Peterson
Let us hear what the Spirit is saying, Thanks be to God.
It is not easy
to convey a sense of wonder,
let alone resurrection wonder, to another.
It's the very nature of wonder to catch us off guard,
to circumvent
expectations and assumptions.
Wonder can't be packaged, and it can't be worked up.
It requires
some sense of being there
and some sense of engagement.
Verse 1. O Breath of God come fill this place
Revive our hearts to know Your grace
And from our slumber make us rise
That we may know the risen Christ
Gospel Hymn: The Risen Christ
Verse 2.
O Word of God so clear and true
Renew our minds to trust in You
And give to us the Bread of Life
That we may know the risen Christ
Verse 3. O love of God so unrestrained
Refresh our souls in Jesus' name
Let us reflect Your sacrifice
That we may know the risen Christ
Verse 4.
May God the Father God the Son
And God the Spirit make us one
In holiness let us unite
That we may know the risen ChristKeith Getty | Phil MadeiraCCLI License # 2890999
Gospel Reading: John 17: 1-11
The Lord be with you.And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Gospel of Christ.Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Homily - Rev Sharon Smith
Reflective silence follows
Moses said,Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
And Jesus affirmed:Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it:Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.
Silence is kept.
Prayers of the People
Presider: As our Saviour taught us, let us pray in the language of our hearts:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sinsas we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
Blessing – Rev Sharon

There's a spirit in the air,
telling Christians everywhere:

tell the world what God has done:
God in Christ has come to stay.
Live tomorrow's life today!
Verse 3.
When believers break the bread,
when a hungry child is fed,
praise the love that Christ revealed,
living, working, in our world.
Verse 4. Still the Spirit gives us light,
seeing wrong and setting right:
God in Christ has come to stay.
Live tomorrow's life today!
Verse 5.
When a stranger's not alone,
where the homeless find a home,
praise the love that Christ revealed,
living, working, in our world.

guide our thoughts and change our ways
God in Christ has come to stay.
Live tomorrow's life today!

Thanks be to God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
