Opening Hymn – Glorious in Majesty

Glorious in majesty,

Holy in his praises,

First Reading: Acts 1:6-14These verses tell of the risen Christ’s conversation with his disciples on his last eve with them. He gives them a promise that they will receive the Holy Spirit.

Let us hear what the Spirit is saying, Thanks be to God.

Psalm 68 (paraphrased)

All realms of creation

now sing with elation.

Sing praise to your Maker,

O sing evermore.

Arise, Lord, and hasten,

Let us hear what the Spirit is saying, Thanks be to God.

It is not easy

to convey a sense of wonder,

let alone resurrection wonder, to another.

It's the very nature of wonder to catch us off guard,

to circumvent

expectations and assumptions.

Wonder can't be packaged, and it can't be worked up.

It requires

some sense of being there

and some sense of engagement.

Verse 1. O Breath of God come fill this place

Revive our hearts to know Your grace

And from our slumber make us rise

That we may know the risen Christ

Moses said,Hear, O Israel,the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

And Jesus affirmed:Love the Lord your God with all your heart,with all your soul, with all your mind,and with all your strength.This is the first and the great commandment.The second is like it:Love your neighbour as yourself.There is no commandment greater than these.

Presider: As our Saviour taught us, let us pray in the language of our hearts:

Our Father in heaven,hallowed be your name,your kingdom come,your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sinsas we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trial,and deliver us from evil.For the kingdom, the power,and the glory are yours,now and for ever.
