Scott County 4-H is creating an online talent show and we need your help! In the spirit of 4-H generosity, we are calling all 4-Hers to share any talent you possess to make this dream a reality. You could…..sing a song, play an instrument, do a dance, read a poem, act out a skit with your family members, etc…..this is your moment to shine!

Participating is as easy as one, two, three. In just three east steps, you can be one of the stars of our show.

Social distancing is challenging. So many people are not able to visit their loved ones. Our Talent Show is a great way for Scott County 4-H to give back to our community by bringing joy to our nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other extended family members and friends.

YQCA

For 2020: All 4-H livestock exhibitors will be required to be YQCA certified for

county and State Fair exhibition for the following: Beef, Dairy Cattle/Dairy Goat,

Meat Goat, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep and Swine. Due July 1st.

Youth who completed the FSQA test-out option previously, will be granted certifi-

cation through their respective expiration date.

YQCA will be offered both online. It is an annual training that builds on the curric-

ulum each year. The online training will cost $12 per member per year.

-H online credentials. Make sure to sign up for the course for your age during the

2019 Calendar Year! You may sign up for in-person trainings in other counties.

4Healthy Habits Tools Added to 4-H at Home Resources

Mississippi Valley Fair Queen Contest

The winner of the contest will reign during the fair, which is being held August 4-9, and will assist with various fair activities during the week. The winner also will represent Scott County and the Mississippi Valley Fair at the Iowa State Fair's queen competition. The Iowa State Fair Queen competition takes place August 11-15, 2020.

The 2020 Mississippi Valley Fair Queen Contest is scheduled at 4:30pm on Thursday, July 23, at the Starlite Ballroom. The new queen will be crowned during the fair, Tuesday, August 4.

The Mississippi Valley Fair Queen contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 21 years of age on August 13, 2020, the first day of the Iowa State Fair. Contestants must reside in Scott County or an adjoining county and have never been married or had children. Additional contest rules can be found on the application form.

Contestants will be judged on the following:

A - Personality, attitude, appearance and awareness.

B - Leadership and citizenship, contribution to community.

C - Overall appearance, charm, poise.

Each contestant must also be a member of at least one service organization in her communi-ty, such as a church group, FFA, 4-H or Girl Scouts.

The new queen will receive a sash and crown plus a $750 scholarship sponsored by the Mis-sissippi Valley Fair.

Applications are available at the fair office, 2815 W. Locust St. or website, mvfair.com. The deadline for the return of application is June 1, 2020.

Application deadline for the National 4-H Youth in Action Award has been de-

layed to May 18, 2020 to allow 4-H leaders and youth more time to promote

and complete the application. 4-H youth can complete for a $5,000 scholarship

and a trip to Washington, D.C.

An updated version of HS 76 Foods for Iowa 4-H Fairs Quick Reference Guide is now in the

Extension store. The revised Spanish version of this publication is expected to be posted

within a week. This publication is reviewed and revised every 1-2 years. Please use the fol-

The State Council invites 4-H’ers from across the state to “Count Your

Clovers” and help provide support for 4-H members across the state.

Funds raised from this campaign provide financial aid support for young

people, helps to keep the cost low for the State 4-H Conference and

supports the State Council’s efforts. Clubs should complete the Count

your Clovers pledge form and return the bottom portion to local County

Extension Offices by June 15. Counties should complete the County

Summary Sheet to tabulate all club contributions and submit one check

to the Iowa 4-H Foundation from club accounts.

Iowa 4-H is excited to announce a special session of Citizenship Washington Focus held during the Presidential Inauguration January 17-21, 2021. Iowa youth, ages 14-19, are encouraged to participate. The January Citizenship Washington Focus Presiden-tial Inauguration will be the only state-coordinated Citizenship Wash-ington Focus trip in 2021.

Connection: Learn a Language One way we can become a Global Citizen would be by learning a new language. Although learning a new language can be difficult, learning a few words and phrases is easy! In Tanzania over 120 languages are spoken, that’s a LOT! The main language spoken in Tanzania is Swahili. This month, let’s work on learning a few new words in Swahili. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, research more words in Swahili on your own or practice learning a new language of your choosing!
