PRESIDENT’S PEN
Hi there to all returned, service, and general members. I hope you are all keep-
ing safe and well during this time. It is fantastic news to hear that we are head-
ing to alert level 2 on Thursday 14th May. The club however, is not likely open
until Thursday 21st May. The committee will be meeting on Friday morning to
discuss this further.
I would like to extend my sincerest thanks and gratitude to Ben, Sharon and
the rest of the team for setting up the club, during alert level 3, for our return
back to the club when we re-open. Trust me when I say you will want to come
down and see the work that has been done. Your wonderful little club has just
become even more wonderful. You have all done a great job and on behalf of
the club, we thank you for your efforts.
Alert level 2 for our club will be back to business as much as we can, and the
team will be operating in a clean and sanitary way whilst still providing you all
with the best service.
As far as the past few weeks have gone, I hope you have all been keeping posi-
tive and enjoying some time to chat with friends. Our thoughts have been with
you all and although it has been difficult not to socialise with every one of you,
we will hopefully be able to do so soon when everyone is healthy.
We will update you as often as we can when we find out more information re-
garding the levels, and when we can start to book some events in, I would love
to catch up with you all.
Take care and stay safe,
Lest we forget,
Brayden Coldicutt

Managers Monthly Memo
Hello to all our amazing Members,
Tough situations, build strong people. It has been a long month and a half, but it has given us the chance to restore our club to its former glory (and she is looking sharp).
As we move into Level 2, there will still be many restrictions put on us. As a club we will implementing Level 2 rules set by the gov-ernment, which include everybody signing in at the front door, re-maining seated to be served, and no more than 100 people onsite (including all staff). Staff will instruct members and guests as to the appropriate behaviour required to ensure we are abiding by the requirements. We thank you in advance for patience and sup-port during this time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team who has made the 2020 RSA Renovations possible. Everyone involved has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Once completed, as members, you will be extremely proud your club. I can’t wait to share it with you all.
Keep safe, take care, and we’ll see you all soon.
Regards,
Ben Allen

Welcome members, guests and visitors to our brief newsletter. Gosh what an experience NZ and the rest of the world is facing, with being in lockdown from end of March through to May. We sure faced challenges around the globe. This Covid-19 Virus sure has given everyone a lot to talk about. I hope you all have been well-cared for by family, friends or neighbours. Our club went into lockdown at level 3 with no one being allowed through the doors. Then when NZ became level 4 it became a complete lockdown. But with this pandemic that we all faced, it was interesting seeing on the TV, hear-ing on the radio or reading in the paper, what different ones did as a family. I am sure it brought closeness together for some families. But on a better note, when we return to our lovely friendly club you will cer-tainly see a difference. Volunteers have been busy working making the club more presentable for when we can return and socialise with each and every-one.. I wish you all happiness, stay safe and enjoy life.

HISTORY COURTESY OF ETHEL KEARNS
The year was 1963 and, after a lot of deliberation, the then Committee
applied for a liquor licence. This meant a bar had to be produced so alter-
ations were made to incorporate an office, front foyer, billiard room and
bar as an extension of the kitchen. Membership was 370.
In 1973 building started on the addition of a lounge and new bar. This offi-
cial opening was performed by Sir Hamilton Mitchell, Dominion President
RNZRSA in May 1974.
If you have any snippets of history to share, please either drop it in to the office or email [email protected]
