I want to thank the membership for your patience and support to our Club through these trying times. I certainly hope that we have made it through the worst of things and that the light at the end of the tunnel is near. Luckily, through all of the restrictions and busi- ness closures, we have been fortunate to main- tain limited operations at the Club and provide to the membership with take-out options from the restaurant as well as limited usage of the golf and tennis facilities. I appreciate all of our staff for the hard work and dedication to make all of this possible. As you may have seen, we recently sent out an email talking about the em- ployee assistance fund for those who have stepped up and made it possible for us to stay operational through these times. With any luck, by the time you read my next newsletter, things will be closer to being back to somewhat normal. We are still moving for- ward with planning social outings, golf tourna- ments, and tennis events this summer and will continue until current restrictions prevent us from doing so. The nice weather is certainly making the urge to have things back to normal even greater and hopefully we are close to be- ing there. I have had several inquiries in re- gards to the opening of the swimming pool. At this time, it is still our intention to open the pool as planned for Memorial Weekend. Obviously, given the current restrictions at that time, we may have to adjust. Currently, the restrictions in place are saying possibly July 1, but that s sub- ject to change. Whether we have to implement a reservations system and limit the number of members at the pool in certain hours or push the opening date back entirely, we will do so ac- cordingly based on whatever restrictions are enforced from the Governors office at that time. Finally, I know that this pandemic has made it difficult on all of us and I am pleased that the Club has been able to provide some sort of es- cape from the confines of our houses. Howev- er, I do need to remind Members who utilize the golf cart paths for exercise to please limit such use to times when golfers are not present. This is not only for the safety of our members, but to limit disruptions to the golfers. Please make sure any children at home are also aware of these rules. Also, if you bring a dog on to the premises, please remember all dogs should be on a leash and show good etiquette and clean up after your dog. Again, we want to encourage everyone to take advantage of our great golf course, but please do so during times when it is safe and not disruptive to the golfers. Thanks again for everyones patience and sup- port during these unique times. I hope to see everyone out at the Club soon and certainly hope to have things back to normal before too long! Beginning in April of 2020 any members who begin a les-son program with your PGA Professionals will be automati-cally enrolled into the CCP Biggest Loser Contest. Pro’s Corner

I really cannot find the words to explain what the last month has been like. I never thought in a million years that I’d rent single rider carts, take away services, and all of the other regulations that we have had to put into place. I would like to thank our membership for your patience and support as our Club has navigated through this most challenging time. It is completely against my DNA as a golf professional to stay away from members and it has definitely been a chal-lenge. I do see light at the end of the tunnel and know that we will come out of this crisis as a better club. I cannot wait to offer our membership the services they deserve, tourna-ments to play in, and time to interact with our staff. I know that this pandemic has not been good for anyone, but I can-not wait to see how busy our facility will be when we do get back to our “new normal”.

Thank you to all our members who have participated in the photo of the week club. We have certainly received a multi-tude of great pics of our Club. While we are still under gov-ernment regulations I am going to try and find even more ways to engage our members.

Please stay safe and I look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Favorite Hole at CCP: My favorite hole is #16. Standing on the elevated tee with the fairway sweeping to the green guarded by water and surrounded by traps, the view is fantastic. The fields and woods in the distance complete the picture. A guaranteed double bogey for me! Favorite tournament at CCP: I have not played a tournament in years, but the original formula for the Member-Member

provided an exciting and fun weekend. How has being fit for clubs helped your game? I have restarted playing after a long hiatus. Chad was excellent in helping me find the right new clubs. Using modern technology (for an old guy) and Chad understanding my swing, we were able to work through several different club makers and find the one right for me. I have really enjoyed playing with the new set (even in quarantine) and look forward to continued improvement with Chad’s help

The Golf Course Maintenance Crew working on the clay courts

The month of April was productive, sad, and new for us as a staff. The rainfall totals were manageable, which allowed us to get playing surfaces cut on a regular basis. The middle of the month brought a couple frosts, which really slowed the growth of the warm season turf and to a certain extent the rough and greens. These factors, along with a tenacious staff has the course in good condition for this time of year.

The month became sad for us when we lost one of our own. On April 9th, long time employee Jose Murillo passed away of an apparent heart attack at his residence in Mayfield. Jo-se was part of our rough mowing tandem, bunker crew and tennis maintenance. Jose was a good man that was always happy, greeted you with a smile, and liked to sing as he rolled the clay courts to prepare them for play. Jose will be greatly missed! The Coronavirus has changed the way we operate as a staff and the routine we have for maintaining the course. It seems that we have found our groove over the past four weeks and are more comfortable with new proto-cols. Like you, we are looking forward to golf returning to normal.

The first week of May looks to have temperatures returning to a more seasonable value. The zoysia sod that was laid during the bunker renovation, needs temperatures to rise in

order to get better rooting. We have started to cut these are-as to normal playing height and added granular fertility to try to expedite deeper rooting. We will also topdress these areas to help smooth the surfaces. Over the next month, we will be dialing in our plant protectant programs, new bunker maintenance, and starting to work on little projects around the course. These projects include finishing raising irriga-tion heads around greens, start filling sink holes in the rough and around catch basins, and some in house tree work. Herbicide applications around the property will be a high priority too.

In closing, Debra Orloff our horticulturist had hip replace-ment surgery on April 22nd. I am happy to say that she is doing well and her pain is gone. Her plan is to return to work after her six-week rehabilitation. Her green thumb has been missed over the past 7 weeks! Also, I hope everyone read Chad’s email on following the posted rules and regula-tions on the course. If everyone does their part, it helps our staff be more efficient daily. When the turf care staff is more efficient, the course will keep improving each day and provide the best possible playing conditions for this great membership!

See you on the course.

From the Tennis Courts Chris Dallas, Tennis Director

What a strange Spring it has been. We seem to be on the home stretch of our extended quarantine and social distanc-ing. We have had a very consistent and loyal group of play-ers that have done a remarkable job of playing tennis and incorporating good social distancing practices. That is very much appreciated. As of the writing of this newsletter we do not have a date set to re-open the Tennis Pro Shop, Indoor Tennis Center or Fit-ness Center. As those dates become established, we will up-date you through the app and e-mails. You may see one or two of the staff members working around the Tennis Center during the day. We are using this “shutdown” to do some needed repair and maintenance around the facility. Even though staff members are here, they are not permitted to let members into the Tennis Pro Shop or Tennis Bubble to use the restroom or for drink service. Most of the time they are in areas that do not allow them to actively answer phone calls. Beginning May 1, we will start to expand the online court reservation system. Currently, outdoor court reservations are available for next day reservations only. We will be extend-ing the reservation time period out to three (3) days. Also, we will be adding an edit feature that allows you to edit your reservation up to 24 hours prior. We ask that reservations be made on courts one and two when possible. This allows for the Stadium court to be used during lessons. During some lessons, the balls have a tendency to migrate to the adjacent court and interrupt play. Information on how to register to use the online court reservation system can be found on the

Country Club of Paducah App under Tennis News. The app gives instructions on how to go to the website and walks you through the process of reserving a court. It has been exciting to watch the opening process for the clay courts begin. Over the last few weeks Shannon and his Ground Crew have done a great job of getting the courts to a stage of readiness we rarely have this early in the season. If we can get a little more cooperation from the weather, the clay courts will be opening in May. Thank you, Shannon. If all goes as planned, we will begin Summer Junior and Adult Clinics on June 1. Schedules for Adult and Junior Summer Clinics is included in the newsletter. I’m excited by the nice weather but I am certainly ready to start seeing the tennis players that have been missing. Most importantly, stay safe and get ready for summer. See you at the courts,

From the Kitchen Michael Harlow, Executive Chef

Dear Members,

Hopefully by the time you read this newsletter, we will be serving you all back here at the Club.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon as we are planning on kicking off our in-house dining with a new Spring/Summer menu. I can tell you all from the inside walls of this Club, it has been very, very quiet here. I can only hope that our members and their families’ are staying healthy during this pandemic. One this is for certain, this pandemic has shown that “life can turn on a dime.”

I would like to say THANK YOU for your support of the Club during this ordeal. I know our members had many options for their dining pleasure and we all really appreciate your loyalty and support.

Best wishes for the year ahead of us and good health to you all.

Chef Mike

From the Clubhouse David Wells, Clubhouse Manager

Hello Country Club! I certainly hope that at some point this month we start moving toward a new “normal”. It is so strange not seeing our mem-bers in the clubhouse. Michael and I are moving forward with plans to reopen the pool. We will continue preparing for operations under the previ-ous regulations until we hear about any new regulations. As for dining and banquets, Chef Mike, Hayley, Whitney and myself have had multiple discussions to prepare for various scenarios. As soon as we receive guidance from the state, we will start reopening to the extent we are allowed. You seem to be enjoying the curbside service and we are so very happy to be able to offer that to you. However, we look for-ward to one day being able to serve you in person again. Thank you & take care of you & yours, David Wells Clubhouse & Facilities Manager

wants us to feel alive” ― Fennel Hudson

Looking Back…

I think it is safe to say, for most of us, this has probably been one of the strangest months of our lives! Speaking of, a big thank you to those of you who participated in the Easter DIY cookie kit and to those of you who joined us for our online cocktail hour!

Coming Up this Month… Everyone, on May 5th we are going to do a little celebrating, Cinco De Mayo style! Get your order in for make-your-own tacos and all the fixins to go with it! Kiddos we are also going to have an activity for you on May 5th! A DIY Paper Bag Pinata! Email hsmith@ccofpaducah. com or call 270.448.6593 to reserve your kids craft for only $25, today! As this world is ever changing, so are things around here!

Nothing is set in stone, but PLEASE stay tuned for flyers and emails from me about creative activities we will be doing during this time in life!

Looking Ahead… I heard someone say this past week, they are not looking for-ward to getting BACK to normal, but they are looking FOR-WARD to normal. I have to say, I totally agree! Whatever our new normal may be, I am excited for it because it means I will get to see your smiling faces! The new normal may look different than we are used to, but sometimes change can be a good thing! I hope we can all embrace the ‘new normal’ and celebrate whenever and wherever we can! If you are interested in hosting any party at all, please give me a call! A few things have been updated for the coming year to make hosting an event even better than before. Make sure to stay tune for flyers with all the details about events! When making reservations for any event please try to get them in at least 48 hours in advance! If anyone ever has any ideas for events they would love to

see happen, my door is always open, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me!
