1953 PERTH PROOF PENNY

With the introduction of the Queen Elizabeth II penny in 1953, the rim embellishment in Mary Gillick's obverse design, became discrete round beads instead of the previous elongated denticles.

The latin inscription 'Fidea Defensor (F.D = Defender of the Faith)' was omitted from the legend which created a controversy, reminiscent of that caused by the famous Queen Victoria 'Godless' florin of 1849, rectified in 1955.

Only 20 proof's were struck dated 1953, with the dot after 'A' of Australia (Perth Mint mark) and the year of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. Pre 1955 Australian proof coins are very rare and sought after.

The 1953 Proof offered here is superb in every aspect; the noticeable sharply struck rims and brilliant surfaces with perfect details. The last one sighted sold in Melbourne for $38,000!

THE EMU IN THE SKYThe majesty and wonder of the Emu in Sky constellation is captured in the art of Wirad-juri artist Scott Towney on this stunning uncirculated coin. The constellation is a silhouette traced by the dark spaces in the Milky Way, stretch-ing from the Southern Cross to Sagittarius.

Across the country there are different sto-ries about the emu constellation. In the Northern Territory one tale tells of a blind man banishing the spirit of the emu to the sky after his wife died trying to collect eggs. In the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park near Sydney there is an Aboriginal engraving that appears to match the Emu in the Sky constellation.

With a small mintage of 5000, this 1/2oz silver frosted uncirculated one dollar coin features artwork by Wiradjuri artist Scott Towney.

The Afghan cameleers who travelled to Australia from 1859 made a significant contribution to the exploration of Australia's inland, and to the development of Australia as a multicultural nation. To commemorate their work, the Royal Australian Mint has released a special 50 cent uncirculated coin.

In 1859, the Victorian Expedition Committee commissioned the import of 24 camels and three cameleers from India, to join the pioneering expedition of Burke and Wills. This was the start of a significant contribution made to Australia's inland development by many cameleers who came to Australia from India, Pakistan, Af-ghanistan, Turkey and elsewhere.
