Blood pressure is considered to be the silent killer because many men and women don’t know that their bloodpressure is elevated until they experience a stroke or heart attack. Adults who have family or friends withhigh blood pressure or have had a stroke know that they need to have their blood pressure checked often notonly by their doctor but at home or in their local pharmacy.

It’s very important to realize that blood pressure is something that's constantly in flux and is also somethingthat's designed to be varied throughout your daily activities with many adults experiencing dangerously highblood pressure overnight. It's only when your blood pressure begins to remain elevated that this becomes aproblem and only over time. When you begin to notice that your blood pressure is becoming elevated and istending toward staying that way, there are some steps you can take to help reduce your blood pressure.

To begin with, it is an excellent idea to reduce the amount of salt in your diet. Other things can be done tohelp lower your blood pressure as well and you may want to consider increasing your intake of fish and fishoil products as well as garlic. These foods can help you to reduce those blood pressure numbers and bringthem back into the normal range. Of course, by reducing your stress you're likely to find that your bloodpressure subsequently comes down a few points. Some people take up meditation and yoga and find that thesethings also help to reduce stress and blood pressure. If you smoke and drink then these can both be contributingfactors to high blood pressure as well.

If your blood pressure remains high then you will need to consult your doctor who may prescribe medicationto help reduce your high blood pressure. Water pills, as well as other medications, can help you to reduce andeliminate your high blood pressure and in the end, will help you to avoid the complications of dealing witha stroke or heart attack.

They've just flown 500 miles across the Gulf of Mexico and they’reheaded north to your home…and they are hungry! Certain kinds ofhummingbirds return in force in May through June, looking for nectarfrom flowers and a free handout from neighborhood feeders.

Of the over 320 species of hummingbirds, only 26 are found north ofMexico. After flying across the Gulf, they migrate 20 miles per day.Their wings flutter 80 times per second, but not in flaps; in a figure eight, which enables them tofly backwards and to hover.

Migrating birds cover thousands of miles in their annual travels and have amazing navigationalskills, including by the stars, sensing changes in the earth's magnetic field, and even by smell.Even though their brains are the size of a grain of rice, hummingbirds have enough gray matterto know where they nested the year before. Many return to the same nesting areas, and even thesame feeders, on their trip across country. They fly alone and fly low, just above tree tops or water.Young hummingbirds must navigate without parental guidance.

You may have started seeing traveling hummingbirds as early as March. These are usually themales on their way to stake out mating territory. Hummingbirds fly by day when nectar sourcessuch as flowers are more abundant. Flying low allows the birds to see and stop at food suppliesalong the way. During these early weeks, males will actually feed from a feeder at night if the areais well lit. They are also experts at using tail winds to help reach their destination faster and byconsuming less energy and body fat. Research indicates a hummingbird can travel as much as 23

miles in one day.
