Exactly a year after his last album, the well-received Construction Time & Demolition, he's back with a new album, Transience. For every song of Wreckless Eric's you remember from his early days on Stiff Records, he's recorded 10 more that you've probably never heard. The early DIY British indie label may have been his entry-level position into the music business, but Eric Goulden didn't stop making music after the novelty of Stiff Records - and his being known as Wreckless Eric - wore off. Forty years on, Goulden is still making insightful music while the original label is but a footnote in music history. On Transience, Eric is joined by friends including acoustic 12-string guitar player Alexander Turnquist, Cheap Trick bassist, Tom Petersson, Amy Rigby on piano and backing vocals, jazz horn player Artie Barbato, and on drums Steve Goulding, late of Graham Parker & the Rumour - the first time he and Eric have recorded together since Eric's enduring hit "Whole Wide World" back in 1976. He wrote the songs on the move, alone in grubby rooms, in dilapidated motels, and 'poolside' at rundown, out-of-season resort hotels, during gaps between tour dates. And in roadside cafes, parking lots and launderettes. "I was seeing stuff and writing it down, little vignettes. I felt like I was in a succession of Raymond Carver short stories." Early on in his career, Eric said that all he wanted to leave behind was an indelible stain. During last year's grueling tour schedule, Eric lost his mother and also his ex, the mother of his daughter. "You start to think, that's it I'm next. There's more time elapsed than there is time left to go. It's like the school summer holiday when I was a kid - at the start it stretched away endlessly but suddenly there was only a week left and then it was over. We're all going to die, it's inevitable and unavoidable. As this vague concept becomes more than just a disquieting reality, I get preoccupied with what is and what might have been." The sun goes down and California slides majestically into the ocean. Eric grinds the hell out of a cheap electric guitar. .

"Davewe need to complete the Trilogy!" said Stefon Harris as we drove to a gig last summe.r We had recorded Eight Track with my working trio of Jared Gold and McClenty Hunter back in 2013 and Eight Track II followed three years later with the great Steve Nelson on vibraphone. A Trilogy? I didn't have to be asked twice!

The Eight Track projects have been not only fun, but musically rewarding. Playing these classic melodies from the '?Os has been a great way to connect with people and bring more people to the music, whether they remember the songs or are just discovering them. I enjoy the challenge of finding my way into these tunes by putting my own stamp on them through the arrangements and playing. (Besides, I had an Eight Track player in my van in high school and spent many hours listening to everything from Miles and Coltrane to Santana and Marvin Gaye!)

This time out we tackle Curtis Mayfield's "Move on Up", The Temptations' "Papa was a Rollin' Stone", Steely Dan's "Pretzel Logic", and two tunes by Stevie Wonder: "Too High" and Joy Inside My Tears". The Carpenters' "We've Only Just Begun" and Burt Bacharach's "This Guys In Love" show that a great melody is a great melody no matter the decade. And Stefon does Roy Ayer's classic "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" proud before we start to wind down with Marvin Gaye's "Afterthe Dance." Throughout I have to tip my hat to these outstanding musicians and friends who brought this music to life: Stefon Harris, Jared Gold, McClenty Hunter and Mayra Casales.

In these crazy times, I hope our takes on these classic songs can bring some joy and positivity into the world. The Trilogy is complete - Viva Eight Track!

The wind was her constant companion as she explored the Park creating pieces such as Cliff Shelf Breeze and Whirlwind. Jill Haley is an instrumentalist/ composer who spends time as an Artist in Residence in our National Parks writing and performing music about these magnificent places. She also released a compilation of pieces about 12 National Parks in 2016 to celebrate the National Park Service Centennial Year. The creative spark she received from Badlands National Park was wind. Rustling prairie grasses, whirlwind moments when the world seemed to be moving, and even the bird’s flights to the sky were all set into motion by the wind. The guitar captures the whirling energy of the wind, and the piano creates, at times, a gentle arpeggio representing the breeze and at other times rapidly changing chords imitating the abruptness of the fast-moving air. Jill has performed National Park music twice at this Park and will be returning in the summer of 2019 to perform a concert of the new music from this release, The Winds of Badlands.

KEY SELLING POINTS: This recording is a collection of pieces written about the cliff dwellings, history, and natural setting of Colorado's Mesa Verde National Park. Jill spent 2 weeks living in the Park as an Artist in Residence writing music that was inspired by the incredible history of the World Cultural Heritage Site. After improvising melodies on the oboe in the cliff dwellings, she added harmony and form with guitar, piano, strings, French horn as well as her signature oboe and English horn. This recording is the 1st one of Jill Haley’s National Park series that evolved from her time spent in a National Park as an Artist in Residence. Jill was given permission to spend time in the cliff dwellings after visiting hours in Mesa Verde National Park. This provided her with an opportunity to improvise music in these past dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloan people. She would take her oboe down a ladder into an underground kiva, a religious space, and create melodies. Then she would return to the Hogan building that the Park provided for her to live in while staying there, and complete the music with her keyboard. The recording starts with Chapin Daybreak, a piece capturing dawn at the Chapin Amphitheater, and ends with Mesa Nightfall, a piano solo piece capturing the calmness at the end of the day. In between these beginning and end points are pieces inspired by the buildings and history of the people who lived in these dwellings from 1250 to 800 A.D. Jill has been an Artist in Residences at 4 National Parks and has released 6 National Park recordings. She has also worked extensively with Will Ackerman, the founder of Windham Hill Records, as both a guest artist on his and other artist’s recordings that he has produced. The Double Reed Journal writes about Mesa Verde Soundscapes:“This is a thoughtful, well performed acoustic music project that features Jill’s sumptuous English horn playing as well as her oboe.”

KEY SELLING POINTS: National Park Soundscapes is a collection of instrumental pieces written about twelve National Parks in recognition of the centennial year of the formation of the National Park Service. Each of the Parks featured has a track highlighting a specific impression Jill had when visiting that Park- such as Ten Thousand Islands in Everglades National Park, or A Soldier's Sacrifice from Valley Forge National Historical Park. Joining Jill on the piano, oboe and English horn are Tony DeAngelis, percussion, David Cullen, guitar, Dana Cullen, French horn, and Graham Cullen, cello. Several years ago, Jill began composing, recording and performing music about our National Parks because she found them so inspiring. In 2016 the National Park Service celebrated its Centennial year, and Jill began visiting Parks throughout the country a couple of years before that with the goal to write a compilation of music about different Parks to celebrate this 100th birthday of the NPS. She traveled from Maine to California gathering impressions for musical creations about 12 Parks and then she recorded these pieces and released them for the 2016 Centennial. National Park Soundscapes reached #1 for 2 months in the summer of 2016 for the most airplay of this type of music internationally as tracked by Zone Music Reporter. After the release of this recording, she visited some of the Parks featured on the CD to give concerts of this music back to the Parks. She included a video of images that inspired the compositions with the concert performance. After a visit to Glacier National Park, Jill returned home and wrote a collection of pieces that were inspired by places in the Park. Her piano, guitar and double reed based tunes take the listener to turquoise waters, towering mountains, and raging waterfalls. This recording is the first in a series of CD releases about our National Parks by instrumentalist/composer, Jill Haley. After a visit to Montana’s Glacier National Park Jill returned home with vivid images from the Park still in her head. Certain landmarks along the Going to the Sun Road such as Weeping Wall and Hanging Gardens led to creative ideas. A classically trained oboist/English horn player, Jill has also explored improvisation and composition on both the piano and oboe. Her compositions have a definite form with room for improvisation within the form. David Cullen joins Jill on several of these tracks on guitar and bass.

As she trekked around lakes, waterfalls, and rivers, it rained and snowed almost constantly. She captures these water- inspired titles with instrumental pieces performed on oboe, English horn, piano, guitar, French horn, and handbells. Many of our National Parks provide an opportunity for an artist/musician to live in a Park for an extended time while they create their art. Jill has been invited to be an Artist in Residence at 4 National Parks: Mesa Verde, Badlands, Wrangell/St. Elias (Alaska), and Glacier. This recording is a collection of pieces that Jill wrote in Glacier National Park, Montana, while an Artist in Residence, during the rainiest October in documented history. She accepted the rain and snow as a gift during her time in Glacier and crafted twelve pieces about water in the Park. Several of the pieces were influenced by the weather, such as “October Snow” and “Rain on Huckleberry Mountain.” Other pieces were inspired by the rivers, lakes and waterfalls. The Virgin River in Zion cuts through a canyon creating The Narrows, a spectacular trek by and through the water, which led to the piece, Floating in the Narrows. The stark reds and browns of the landscapes contrasted with the brilliant blue sky, and this resulted in the piece, Cerulean Sky.

This is the 2nd of 6 recordings Jill has released about our National Parks. She spends time exploring the Parks and then writes music that attempts to capture the spirit and beauty of the place.

A photo booklet is included in the packaging to give the listener a visual reference to the place or image that led to the writing of each track. Primarily an oboist/English horn player and pianist, she included French horn, cello, bass and guitar on these tracks.

Sherry Finzer is an international award-winning American flutist, composer, and performer. Liz Meyer (1952 - 2011) and Chris Jones (1958 - 2005) worked together in Europe from mid- July 1997 through early September 1998. Despite the brevity of their collaboration, Blue Lonesome Wind provides an important missing link to their respective discographies.

Before she moved to Amsterdam in 1985 to marry and start a family, Meyer had been a key figure on Washington D.C.’s thriving progressive bluegrass scene for fifteen years. As a fiercely inventive singer/songwriter, she had pushed the envelope yet further, creating her own brand of Americana when the term had not even been coined. Small wonder Liz could always count on the support of the finest musicians in the area, both in the studio and onstage. Her guitarists included legends like Danny Gatton and Steuart Smith, men whose versatility defied categorization just as much as Liz’s songs did. Shortly previous to her departure for Europe, Meyer and Smith played regularly as a duo in and around Washington. When Liz resumed performing on the European club circuit following the release of her star- studded album Womanly Arts in 1994, she eventually decided to present her music again in a duo setting. The search for someone to fill Smith’s shoes didn’t take her long, as the only serious candidate for the job turned out to be another American expat, Chris Jones.

A child prodigy whose influences comprised Bach, Robert Johnson and Ry Cooder, Jones had made Germany his home after a stint in the U.S. Army there. Before teaming up with Meyer, he had already accompanied a host of folk and blues artists for two decades, while also making a name for himself by the often frenzied brilliance of his solo gigs. Obviously living on the edge, Chris’s confrontational streak made him challenge Liz to give the most galvanizing performances of her European career. Since Meyer was not about to be upstaged by her guitarist, no matter how good, she rose to the occasion night after night. Sadly, the recurring personality clashes between shows led to their breakup. However, the strained and increasingly destructive relationship between Liz and Chris may well have been instrumental in creating the riveting music contained on this album.

Steve Young (July 12, 1942 – March 17, 2016) was an American country music singer, songwriter and guitarist, known for his song "Seven Bridges Road," and alternative country sounds, and also a vital force behind the "outlaw movement" that gave support to the careers of Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Jr. and more. Young was also featured in the 1975 Outlaw Country documentary Heartworn Highways.

Steve Young recorded a song of mine, “Contender”. This was my first significant cut. To tell the truth, it meant the world to me. Later he would record “If My Eyes Were Blind”. His version of that song remains – to my mind – the best rendition. In 1993, we played in Lichtenvoorde, Holland for a concert series put on by Carl Van Melis. Ad Vanderveen was also playing on the bill. Ad and I have been friends since that concert. Listening to these recordings after all these years reminds me of just how important that concert was to me.

Steve was the real deal to say the least — prickly, saintly, enigmatic, son of the South and citizen of the world.
