Let’s Have Some Fun! And we are off to the Races! I’m very excited about our first Friday outing to Golden Gate Fields in Berkley for a fabulous Prime Rib buffet lunch while watching the horse races. It’s $35.00 pp, includes entry fee, buffet, a race named after our Community and a picture with the horse and jockey. Let’s go do some betting! The weather has been so beautiful lately that I thought

it would be nice to go for lunch at the Cliff House of Folsom, which over look’s the beautiful view of the American River. They will provide the wonderful cuisine, as well as drinks, and we will bring the great

company. Remember to sign up in the book for our Friday Excursions. We always have an enjoyable time! May has all kinds of days to celebrate, our first one is on Thursday May 4th we will be celebrating Cinco de mayo during our Happy Hour with Cherokee. She has such an amazing voice, Cherokee will be signing a mixture of songs to dance too. Come on down and enjoy a cerveza and some fabulous appetizers made by Chef Brian. Let’s not forget about our Wonderful Mother’s. On

Saturday May 13th from 10:00am-12:30 pm we will be having our Mother’s Day Tea in the Dining Hall, with delicious teas and sandwiches. There’s nothing better

than spending some special time with your loved ones. Make sure you sing up!

Culinary Corner Hello Residents of Roseville Commons! May is here and after April’s showers I am ready for the flowers! This month has one of my favorite holidays, Mother’s Day. Not only because I’m a “Momma’s Boy” at heart, but because it allows me to give thanks to my mom, wife and all the Mothers of Roseville Commons for the above and beyond sacrifices I am sure you all have made for your families. So, this Mother’s Day we will be

having your choice of delicious Salmon Cakes with Lemon Dill Aioli OR a succulent Orange Glazed Cornish Game Hen. Please make sure you sign up for

your entrée selection, as well as any guests you may be having. I’d like to take a moment to inform you about some of the dining room policies you may have not been aware of. Firstly, I would like you to know that sample tastings of the entrée special are always available if you would like to try the entrée before ordering it. Above anything, I want you to enjoy your meal, so if there is an item that you are curious about, but not sure if you will enjoy, please ask for a sample before ordering. In addition to that, if you have tasted the sample, ordered the meal,

and then decide you actually don’t like it, then an additional charge will have to be made if you want a different meal. We have had quite a few occasions of this lately, and we are trying to minimize the food waste by offering the samples.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We strive to bring you the best dining experience possible, and appreciate your continued efforts and consideration in making Roseville Commons such a success. Sincerely,

Chef Brian

Our May Activity Talk Meeting will be held on Wednesday May 3rd in the Rose Room at 1:00pm. I look forward to these meetings, because we go over the monthly events on the calendar. I’m always looking for feedback from you regarding your Friday outings; such as museums, restaurants, stores, movies, parks, art galleries and plays you would be interested in going to. I would love to know which entertainers you would like to return or if you have new ones that I’m not aware of. I also would like to know what arts & craft projects, or games you would be interested in. Come down and join in the conversation, you could win a raffle prize. I’m looking forward to seeing you! Mother's Day recognizes mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well as the positive contributions that they make to society. It was established by Anna Jarvis, with the first official Mother's Day was celebrated at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908. Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day !

As Luck Would Have It See a penny, pick it up, and all the day you’ll have good luck. The notion that a found penny brings good luck is such a popular superstition that it enjoys its own holiday on May 23, Lucky Penny Day. Why are pennies considered lucky, especially when many of us consider one cent to be worthless? The idea of attributing luck to metal is an ancient custom. It was believed that metal was a gift from the gods. To carry a piece of metal was to carry the gods’ blessing and receive protection from evil. For similar reasons, charm bracelets and horseshoes are also considered lucky. Another influence stems from the belief that money brings wealth and power. A penny saved, although only a mere cent, marks the beginning of a lifetime of savings. Some cultures, like those in Europe and Ireland, believe that if you find a penny you have found one piece of a leprechaun’s horde of gold. Tradition advises you to spit on the found coin and toss it into the bushes, returning it to the little magical elves. These enchanting creatures would then return the favor by doing you good deeds. There are many variations on the lucky penny superstition. Some believe that only heads-up pennies are lucky. If you find a tails-up penny, you should flip it heads-up and leave it for another to find. Others believe that a penny or coin thrown into a fountain or tossed into a well allows you to make a wish. One rhyme advises, “Money on the floor, more at the door.” An old Victorian rhyme advises brides what to wear on their wedding days: “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in your shoe.” This last bit has evolved into “a lucky penny in your shoe.” The legend of the lucky penny has endured, but if you’re still skeptical, perhaps you’ll change your tune when you learn that one U.S. bank has hidden 100 “lucky” pennies across the country. Each one is worth $1,000.

Medical & Dental Appointments

Our Tuesday & Thursday doctor & dental appointment days are for any of our residents to make one appointment each day, unfortunately with over 100 residents living in our community, we can get very busy with appointments on these days. Please keep in mind to only schedule one doctors visit per day. Our last scheduled pick up time is 3:30pm, if your appointment runs after this time, you will need to set up your own arrangement to be pick up.

Thank you,

Management Cola Cure-All

People have been drinking Coca-Cola since May 8, 1888, when the soft drink was first served by Dr. John S. Pemberton at Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia. Yes, Coca-Cola was first marketed as a medicinal cure-all beverage for ailments such as headaches, nerve disorders, addictions, and indigestion. By 1900, sales of

Coca-Cola had reached 100 million annually. Perhaps this surge in popularity had to do with Coca-Cola’s brilliant marketing strategy of issuing tickets that could be redeemed at any location for a free glass—these tickets are considered the first coupons ever invented. Today Coca-Cola is as popular as ever. And it is still marketed as a medicinal cure for stomach blockages. Apparently, Coca-Cola’s chemical ingredients can cure a condition called gastric phytobezoar with a 90% success rate.
