This school year is nearly complete. We have completed the 2016-2017 student registration,
nearly completed the mandated SBAC assessments, and are gearing up for the annual end of
school activities to include an 8th grade semi-formal and fifth grade and 8th grade student
tours. If you were unable to attend any of the student or parent registration activities or are
deeply interested in the registration information, it is available on the CVMS webpage via the
counselor or registration links. Further, students enrolled in the Accelerated Math-8 class
will participate in their Integrated Math I End of Course Exams within the first two weeks
of May.
With the end of the school year approaching please help your student to stay focused as they
still have a lot to do in these remaining few weeks of school. In addition to the exams issued
in all the courses, students will participate in a State education survey. This survey is anony-
mously administered through all science classes the week of May 9. With the end of the
school year comes much warmer weather dress code will become an issue for a few. Note that
the purpose of the school district dress code is to promote a learning environment that is
safe, respectful, and free from distractions. Students who disregard the dress code will be
required to change into their PE uniform or call their parent/guardian to have appropriate
clothing brought to them before they attend their classes. The student handbook and the
Douglas County School District website provide guidance to the student dress code.
While the end of the school year winds down, Spring MAP assessments continue. The
mid/Spring year MAP assessment scores trigger an invitation to this year’s summer school.
Summer school letters will go home using current end of year MAP data after scores have
been recorded. This summer's summer school letters going home with a telephone call the
last week of May. Students that need credit recovery will receive an invitation to summer
school. Please encourage your student to do their best and take their time on the MAP as-
sessment, or whatever assessment is provided. Finally, PowerSchool parent Portal will cease
to exist after the second week of June 2016. The new Infinite Campus (IC) student account-
ing system will open for summer school students. The IC Parent Portal will open in August
before the 2016-2017 school year begins. Look for IC Parent Portal tutorials on the DCSD
and CVMS website the first week of August 2016. Don't be alarmed if you cannot access your
Child's information or 2016-2017 schedule. Schedules for next year are not mailed. Student
schedules are distributed during a short alphabetized homeroom period on the first day of
school, Monday August 15, 2016. Please note that every effort has been made to adhere to
your son or daughters first course request. For all upcoming CVMS events and current infor-
mation be sure to check our web site, particularly the first week of August and beyond. The
CVMS web site will reflect current information related to the 2016-2017 school year to in-
clude back to school events and transition activities. Have a wonderful summer. Good luck to
the 8th graders moving on to Douglas High School and beyond.

The school year is quickly coming to a close! During April we completed our registration process for next year for all current
students and 5th grade students who will be joining us next year for 6th grade. If you are positive that you will be moving
prior to the beginning of next school year (August 15, 2016) please let the office know. April was also a big testing month
with SBAC testing being completed and some MAP testing also thrown in. We will be continuing some more MAP testing
for another couple of weeks. Please remind your students to continue to do their very best work throughout the remainder of
school days.
Summer school will again be offered to students in grades 7 – 12 who may be credit deficient. Letters went out to potential
candidates two weeks ago. If you are not sure if your student would be a candidate for summer school, please call the coun-
seling office.
Have a wonderful and safe summer and we will see you in August.

The Douglas County School District Board of Trustees sup-
ports equal educational opportunity for students free from
discrimination based upon race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, disability, or national origin (Board Policy No.

for staff in making decisions relating to school facilities;
and selection of educational materials, equipment, curricu-
lum, and regulations affecting students. In support of this
policy and in compliance with the requirements of federal
law, no student will be required to attend mandatory meet-
ings solely based on the student’s race, color, religion, sex,
sexual orientation, disability, or national origin. ARE YOU MOVING THIS SUMMER?
If you move over the summer,

new address and phone number if applicable. The post
office will not forward school mail.
