I love Sundays — a reflection How did you do on those seven challenges? I admit, some of them were really tough, but I
know we were all blessed by trying to do them and really put God as our center focus of the
day. I’m already planning the next one on June 26th. Thank you so much for being part of
this special day and start preparing for the next one. Who could you invite? Who will you bring home and
fellowship with for the day? What are you going to do to help focus the day on God?
Some May Attention
May can be a quite a busy month. But don’t forget about some great things happening throughout May.
May 8 is Mother’s Day. It’s a great day to bring your mom with you to our church services. She’ll get a
special gift during the 10:15 am time of praise and worship.
May 15 is graduate’s recognition Sunday. As part of our praise and worship service for the day, we’ll
recognize our 8th grade and High School graduates. I’m especially honored to encourage and chal-
lenge our Senior High graduates with some special gifts.
May 20 — I’m going to be taking all the Junior High Live kids to Kearney. This is our end of the school
year, start of summer, scavenger hunt event. You can pick up a permission form and information
sheet from me. We only have 13 seats in the van, so reserve your child’s spot now.
May 22—26 is Vacation Bible School. I hope you saw the front of this newsletter. Were going on a
deep sea discovery during this year’s VBS. At the heart of that discovery is finding God. This is a can’t
miss event here at FCC. Register your child now or see Hayley Brown for more information.
May 29 is 5th Sunday. We’re going to do things a little different this day and gather for praise and
worship in the new building. Fifteen minutes after our 10:15AM service is done, we’ll have some time
of fellowship and eating together. Bring some food to share and be ready to make some new friends
and catch up with some old ones.
The Journey We’re On, Together
One of the primary focuses of my ministry has always been to truthfully and passionately preach and
teach the gospel and help you connect into God’s Word — for it to come alive in your life and in your fami-
ly’s life. I really do believe what I proclaim and try hard to live it myself. I also like to let you know where
we are going, so you can pray about it and prepare yourself for it.
I’m excited to be preaching out of the Acts of the Apostles, being encouraged by what the church did
through God’s power, opening doors into people’s lives for Christ. Some amazing things take place,
sometimes expected and often completely unexpected. We see a people willing to follow God wherever
He leads them.
During May and June, we will continue through Acts, including a special I Love Sundays on June 26.
The sermon that day is “Good Sundays make better Mondays.” In July, we’ll have a unique 5-part series
out of the Old Testament book of Jonah. This will include some really powerful life-changing encourage-
ment.
Thanks for listening and for letting me love you — your brother in Christ,
Michael

History of an American Celebration When the first English settlers came to America, they discontinued the tradition of Mothering Day.
While the British holiday would live on, the American Mother’s Day would be invented — with an entirely
new history — centuries later. One explanation for the settlers’ discontinuation of Mothering Day was
that they just didn’t have time; they lived under harsh conditions and were forced to work long hours in
order to survive. Another possibility, however, is that Mothering Day conflicted with their Puritan ideals.
Fleeing England to practice a more conservative Christianity without being persecuted, the pilgrims
ignored the more secular holidays, focusing instead on a no-frills devotion to God. For example, even
holidays such as Christmas and Easter were more somber occasions for the pilgrims, usually taking
place in a Church that was stripped of all extraneous ornamentation.
Loving God,
as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children,
so you watch over your Church.
Bless these women,
that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
