When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Sadly, we have lost several beloved members recently. We celebrate the lives, and contributions to CUMC, of:

James Kurfess Jean Staneck

Helen Hoerichs Cleo McCoy Ana Larson Ken McKee

Dorothy Nevitt Ron Hunt

April - The children enjoyed warm spring days and also celebrated Earth Day. They learned what types of things can be recycled and they made beautiful crafts. Some of their new artwork is on display in the sanctuary through early May. May - lots of excitement! muffins with mom and family appreciation dinner on May 20 And preschool graduation is around the corner, June 3!

John Park has joined our staff as accompanist. John is an experienced and passionate piano teacher, organist, and artist with a deep understanding of choral music, organ music and the art of piano. John graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Art in English Literature and a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Music. He has vast experience as a teacher and tutor, and has truly given a new dimension to our music program. His long-time piano, performance and teaching coach revealed, “I have known Jung hoon now for several years. He is one of the most inquisitive, curious and passionate musicians I have ever met. He always wants to learn, to grow, to be a better

servant of music. The Church is very lucky to have him join the staff.”

We agree! Welcome, John!

Welcome John Park

Rev. Mary Jo Sims of the Towson UMC wrote in a BWC publication about the Holy Spirit, “It is the powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit that broke down the barriers between Cornelius and Peter and cracked open their lives. How is the Holy Spirit stirring us to break down barriers that separate us from others? How is it cracking open the segregated and exclusive places of our own lives? This is profound for today’s church. Two thousand years after Cornelius and Peter, we have yet to overcome the separations resulting from racism, sexism (including heterosexism), classism, ageism, and nationalism. Which of these barriers is so rigid that it refuses to yield to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit? What keeps us, the church, from living out our Eucharistic prayer “By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, . . .”? What prevents us from experiencing Pentecost?” Pastor Stan’s present message series is based on Francis Chan’s book, Forgotten God. In his book, Chan contends that we’ve ignored the Spirit for far too long, and that without Him, we operate in our own strength, only accomplishing human-sized results. It’s time for the beloved church of Jesus Christ to reverse the trend of neglect. Let’s pursue the Spirit-filled life of effectiveness God desires and we desire. Five confirmands will consider the import of these words on Pentecost Sunday at CUMC. The Rev. Duffy Robbins spoke to youth at the Baltimore-Washington Conferences Confirmation Celebration in 2002. Robbins warned the youth about the double-mindedness of wanting to commit to God while still clinging to worldly obstacles. Being confirmed doesn’t mean that life won’t get tough, it means that they won’t go it alone, Robbins said. When you think about this walk with Jesus, when you think about what God is doing in your life, I want you to think of this word single-mindedness because that’s the key. That’s the key to make this celebration more than just an event, to actually make it a style of life, Robbins said.

The Spirit’s Power

As a church, we have an obligation to support these young people on their journey.

UMC Appointment
