The world has not changed, and will not get better until the Kingdom of God comes, and we should not expect much until that event has dawned. It is also essential for us to stop blaming the educational system. Having spent my whole life in the pursuit of academics, I am keenly aware of what is being taught in our schools, especially in the seats of higher learning. There are many fantastic ideas out there in the world that burn with heresy…but they are impregnable to a faith that is cemented from youth and venerated through a close walk with Jesus Christ. Who provides the introduction to God and directs the steps of that walk…it is the family? For the present we must by example and by commitment direct our families to the Lord so that our children by example will become the legacy of faith and the repellant against evil and immorality of which our generation embraces. Remember that it takes only one generation to make the world either evil or good… what the world will be has everything to do with who we are and what we do…or what we don’t do! Our church is committed to building Christian families, we should never leave that to chance or even to our children. We have to show them the way. Be proactive! Solomon teaches in these verses above that the instruction of the father and the law of the mother is the way to a better life. Here we have a father looking his boy right in the eye and saying,” Listen son here’s the kind of world you are going to be living in every day of your life. Here’s what you can expect, and here’s what you have to do about it, (as you read the rest of Proverbs chapter 1). That is a wise dad, because he is honest, and he is not shielding his boy form the real world. He is telling him about it in advance, but in a way that will help his son rather than degrade him. He tells his son the truth. The church is a family too. That kind of family is worth a lot today. Some of us were under-parented. But God our Father loves us by locating us inside His family, where we have father figures, we have spiritual mothers, and all of us are growing together. How is our heavenly father counseling us in verses 8 and 9? He is saying, if you listen to me, my wisdom will make you attractive. Why are most people not in church on Sunday morning, because they don’t see churches as attractive? They don’t see past the pews. But there is so much more to see, because God did not create us for mediocrity but to reflect the glory of God. It is God’s wisdom that is beautiful and impressive, and we do not get to wear it as a garland around our neck, which was the symbol of victory, unless we are in His presence and embrace His wisdom. Dear First Baptist Family,

As Mother’s Day approaches and we

show the well-deserved appreciation

toward our Mother’s and Wives, we

are reminded by Solomon from the

book of Proverbs that the

responsibilities of parenthood are

never ending and essential to

building Christian homes; not only

for the benefit of society, but more

importantly for the individual

benefit of our children and

grandchildren. What we teach each

generation will be an investment for

the future of our world. Sad to say,

the wise instruction that is implied in

the biblical text is often missing in

our society. The fault, however, is

not with the world or the educational

institutions, but the Christian family.

The world has not changed, and will

not get better until the Kingdom of

God comes, and we should not

expect much until that event has

dawned. It is also essential for us to

stop blaming the educational system.

Having spent my whole life in the

pursuit of academics, I am keenly

aware of what is being taught in our

schools, especially in the seats of

higher learning. There are many

fantastic ideas out there in the world

that burn with heresy…but they are

impregnable to a faith that is

cemented from youth and venerated

through a close walk with Jesus

Christ. Who provides the

introduction to God and directs the

steps of that walk…it is the family?

For the present we must by example

and by commitment direct our

families to the Lord so that our

children by example will become the

legacy of faith and the repellant

against evil and immorality of which

our generation embraces. Remember

that it takes only one generation to

make the world either evil or good…

what the world will be has

everything to do with who we are

and what we do…or what we don’t

do! Our church is committed to

building Christian families, we

should never leave that to chance or

even to our children. We have to

show them the way. Be proactive!

Solomon teaches in these verses

above that the instruction of the

father and the law of the mother is

the way to a better life. Here we have

a father looking his boy right in the

eye and saying,” Listen son here’s

the kind of world you are going to be

living in every day of your life.

Here’s what you can expect, and

here’s what you have to do about it,

(as you read the rest of Proverbs

chapter 1). That is a wise dad,

because he is honest, and he is not

shielding his boy form the real

world. He is telling him about it in

advance, but in a way that will help

his son rather than degrade him. He

tells his son the truth. The church is

a family too. That kind of family is

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! Have you or someone you know benefited from receiving donated blood? Are you interested in helping to save lives? Are you wondering how you can help others and what specific things you can do to help the most? First Baptist would like to have an American Red Cross Blood Drive on July 18, 2015. We need a committee of volunteers willing to help with organization, advertising, and to be there the day of the event to help the Red Cross. If you are interested in volunteering in this leadership group, please contact Casey Harper via email at: [email protected] or let her know at church that you are interested. Also, if you are willing to give blood on this date, and are available to do so, please also send Casey an email. Thank you, and remember, a pint of donated blood saves three lives!

Relay for Life walks are an annual project of the

American Cancer Society. During the opening

ceremony of these walks, luminaria candles, which can

be customized and purchased by visiting

(www.RelayforLife.org) and selecting your local event,

are lit "in honor" of survivors, "in support" of those

currently dealing with the disease, and "in memory" of

those who have died of cancer. Survivors walk the first

lap to symbolize their win against the disease. They are

then joined by family and care givers, and then the rest

of the walkers join in to walk the remainder of the event.

Survivors can contact the leaders of local events to

register to walk the first lap!

DATES FOR LOCAL EVENTS:

Note: If these are not close to you, or you need one at a

different time or date, please visit
