Transcript of May 2015 newsletter format
Finally we are experiencing spring weather! I look forward to us being able to spend more time outside this month exploring and
getting fresh air into our systems. We also have a busy month filled with talking about transitioning to kindergarten, starting to grow
our garden, and our last ELI trip is this month.
If you are changing your child’s schedule for the summer please put it in writing, including the times and days of the new schedule and
when it will take effect. Thank you.
Enjoy the sunshine this month! Jeni Hoover

Kendal Intergenerational News:
Did you know that we started taking small groups of children
to read with residents on Thursday afternoons? This has been
a great success. If your child has a special book they want to
bring in and share with a resident, they are more than welcome
to bring it. ☺

Healthy Tidbit for the Month:
This month we will be having a food tasting with the
children and switching around our afternoon snacks to give
them healthier options that they like.
Did you know?
• A snack should include at least two food groups
• Meals should contain a fruit, vegetable, grain,
protein, and a dairy.
Challenge:
Try to make healthier choices this month.
From the KELC Teachers:
From the Classroom:
The children have enjoyed our study on Pets a great deal. With most of them having pets at home, they have had
lots of information and knowledge to share during group time. They have also really enjoyed showing off the
pictures of their pets to their friends. During our study our former director Kathy Knipper came in to share with the
children how she takes care of the horses on her horse farm. Our ELI trip in April was to the Natural History
Museum where the children learned all about the human body and how it works. This trip is always a big hit as the
children always look forward to playing doctor and putting “Stuffee” back together. We are very excited that we are
able to get outside more now and enjoy all the great things that happen in the spring. Sara had a school project on
birds which included going on a bird walk and then making a bird bath which the children planned and then made.
They were all so happy to add the finished product to our play yard. We are also super excited to have all our
teachers back! Robin Jones has once again joined us after her winter break in Florida, and Lisa Turchik has also
been able to return. In May we are looking forward to starting our Veggie U program and also preparing those who
will be taking the next step preparing to go off to Kindergarten.
Have a great month! Karen, Sara, Mary, Robin, & Lisa
