Chimes W hat a great time to be a part of First Church. The
Church Doctor has been guiding us, challenging us, encouraging us and letting us see the possibilities of being the church in our day.
There are times when I have been discouraged, there have times when I have been excited. There are times when I feel as if the entire responsibility of the church rests on my soul. There are times when I feel like we are all in this together. There are times when I have felt uncom-fortable and times when I have feel com-forted.
I believe that the Lord is doing a “new
thing” in our midst and my prayer is as a congregation that we would all seek the Lord’s face and favor in our future.
My prayers and love are with all of you as we take “action” to be the church in some new, different and creative ways for the sake of our mission, of making disciples for Je-sus Christ for the Transformation of the World.
See you in worship!
In Christ’s Love, Ted
Pastor’s
Perspective

The Church Doctor is in on April 29! All are invited to the Congregational Meeting on Sunday, April 29 with the Church
Doctor. There will be a meal from 12 – 1 in the Fellowship Hall and the Report from
the Church Doctor, Dr. Kent Hunter from 1 – 4. It will be a great day. You won’t
want to miss this vital time in the life of First Church.
“Tables” is coming soon! We are excited about this new, casual worship
experience on Sunday evenings this summer! It starts Sunday, June 3 at 6
p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We will also be starting some fellowship,
discipleship and small groups at that time—including a college and career
group! Watch the church’s Facebook page, Chime newsletter and Sunday
morning announcements for more information about this cool opportunity!
Tables: Come join the conversation.

May Worship Highlights
Family is our worship theme for May! Invite a friend and be prepared for great inspiration.
We will celebrate Communion on May 6.
On Memorial Day weekend, May 27, we will have one service at 9:30 a.m. with a cookout afterward. Be sure to mark your calendar!
We are so thankful for the generosity of First
Church through our Easter offering for
technology. We received over $2,400 in our
offering! We split the money using half for a
community project and half for a church
technology need. Our community portion
went to the Eckhart Public Library for support
for a project for a mobile laptop lab as an
outreach to the community. Watch for news
in the future as to how your Easter offering
was spent here at First Church. Thanks again
for your financial support of First Church!
Thanks for all the crockpot soups and
everyone who chipped in and helped with our
Maundy Thursday service. The drama was an
eye-opening experience as well. Additionally,
thank you to everyone who helped out during
Holy Week and Easter!
Marie Bowerman writes: I cannot express my
gratitude to my many friends that have
remembered me with warm thoughts and
wishes on my 90th birthday. Also, I cannot
forget Susan Steinman and the love that she
puts in each card. God bless you all.
Phoenix, who played in our Concert of Hope,
writes: We were so blessed to receive such
wonderful hospitality from your church. It was
a joy to be with you! Thank you so much for
having us for the opportunity to perform.
The family of Gabe Taylor writes: Thank you so
much for hosting Lucas’ funeral dinner and
making a wonderful meal. Your support during
these times are greatly appreciated.

They are heading a project to fill cleaning buckets, which are distributed at disasters such as the recent tornadoes in southern Indiana. They hope that, with the help of their First Church family, they can fill 100 buckets! Pick up at donation sheet at church and bring items by May 13. If you have questions, contact Pastor Allison at [email protected].
Summer
Fun at
First
Church
We have two great opportunities for children at our church at in the community this summer: Fine Arts Camp and Vacation Bible School!
Fine Arts Camp is a weeklong camp that introduces children to a variety of musical and visual arts experiences with a Christian theme. Classes include choir, praise team, art liturgical dance, puppets, acting and media. Fine Arts is June 25-29 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is due June 1.
Vacation Bible School this year is “Operation Overboard,” where children will learn to go deep in God’s word and explore Bible stories of people who revealed deep faith. VBS is July 22-26 from 6-8:30 p.m., with dinner served at 5:15 p.m. each day. Sign up by July 6 to receive a T-shirt.
You can sign up for both camps by picking up a registration form at the church or online at auburnfirstunited.com.
Help support our
Senior High campers
Since many of you can’t be there with us at Senior High camp, we are offering you a very tangible way to impact these great youth - by supplying the funds to fill our pantry and fridge for our senior high campers. We will have about 60 people – both campers & adult chaperones & cooks – at camp. Due to storage space at the camp, we are asking for cash or check donations to support our senior high campers instead of actual food donations. Any size donation will be appreciated! We already have some delicious pork from the Mission Committee for pork burg-ers on grill day (Thank you Mission Committee!!) but you can still be a part of this wonderful ministry! Look for the Senior High Camp Food display in the gathering area. Grab a tag with a dollar amount on it and then return the tag with your donation in the envelopes provided. We also encourage you to include a note with your donation to let the senior high campers know of your support for them. We will read the notes at mealtimes to let the campers know how they are cared for. Thank you for your past support for our campers and we look forward to another great year at Epworth Forest.
Questions? See Pastor Allison ([email protected]) or food coordinator Pat Kobiela ([email protected])
Support our Africa team Your Mission team to Africa is excited to be headed to serve the Lord along with missionaries, Rev Ken and Deb Vance and Rev. John and Kendra Enright.
The team of Galen Eberhart, Lydia Jansen and Ted Jansen will travel to the Kafakumba Center to support the Family Camp and other ministries.
The team appreciates your prayer support as they go on behalf of Christ and First Church.
The team leaves on July 25. Join in their commissioning in worship on Sunday, July 22 at both services.
