Trinity UMC “Meet the Pastor” results

November 2009

A total of 88 people attended the 8 sessions I held.

I asked the participants two questions about Trinity UMC:

1) What do you love about us?

2) What dream do you have for us?

I looked for common themes. The following responses

were stated most in the different groups.

“10 dreams I have for Trinity”

1. An elevator because our facilities have a lot of steps and

we have a number of older people.

2. A covered entrance (front or back of the church) so folk

can be dropped off and stay dry from the car to the door. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two years ago, the need for an elevator and a canopy

were the top two most common dreams mentioned by

the 88 people who shared their ideas with me. When the

Building Committee was formed to get the plans drawn up,

several times we were asked, “What is taking so long?

When will ground finally be broken?”

Some other thoughts:

1. Finance Chair B.J. Broyles says financially, Trinity is as

strong as we have been in several years. We are debt free.

All bills are paid on time. We aren’t struggling each month.

2. In this economy, construction costs are as low as they

will ever be because companies are desperate for work.

Interest rates on the loan we will take out will also be low

due to the economy. If we wait for things to turn around,

the overall cost of this project will rise considerably.

3. As of April 24 we have $37,056 in the Building Fund;

once we receive $12,944 more to reach $50,000 in our

Building Fund, we’ll break ground on our $250,000 project

4. We’d like to finish the project by Christmas because so

much happens in December. But the pledges to help repay

the loan will be for 3 years. As Capital Campaign Chair

Scott Bullington said during worship, this is what you plan
