PRESIDENT’S REPORT By Tom DiGiacomo

“When you’re trying to live up to everybody else’s expectations, you can lose yourself. And when you lose your grip on who you are, your motivation fades. You get all caught up in the survival rut--working for other people’s dreams and not your own.

Your dreams are attached to who you are. So if you’re going to maintain your motivation, it’s important to stay away from people who cause you to doubt yourself.

Sometimes you can get sidetracked when you feel like you don’t really deserve to be successful. There are these big, ugly gorillas in your life that say you can never be what you dream you can be. They are the gremlins of your childhood, full grown. Maybe your gorilla is some damaging experience you’ve never managed to get past. Maybe it’s past failure or a person who always put you down and expected you to fail.

There will always be people like that. Learn to avoid them. Get help in throwing off the hairy

arms of these gorillas. They must be thrown off any way you can because they will kill your motivation. If you are still trying to live up to images of what Mom and Dad wanted you to be, you made need to make a few adjustments.

Only you can be responsible for becoming who you really are. Explore your own gifts and talents and pursue your own goals. Only you can decide what you want and what it will take to obtain it. Capitalize on your strengths. Learn to face your weaknesses and work on them. Don’t try to be anybody else--just be yourself!

I am excited to announce that the Woodmore Oaks Neighborhood Watch is going to be on Facebook! It’s easy to sign up and share your

thoughts on various topics and ideas about our neighborhood. We hope that when you see suspicious activity, you can post this immediately so everyone can be aware. This is a social network and we hope we open more doors to the neighbors out there that feel a part of our program but yet not wanting to devote the time or energy to attend a monthly meeting.

We can appreciate that and we also know that you appreciate this newsletter that has been delivered to your door for almost twenty years now.

Until next month remember, “Coming together is a beginning, Keeping together is progress, Working together is Success!”

HOME SECURITYGarage Doors

The door is closed, what can happen? Unfortunately, that is the sentiment of many who believe that simply closing your garage door will keep your home safe. The reality is that it can, in some cases, cre-ate a false sense of security. Many people leave the door between the garage and the house (where they are con-nected) unlocked for their con-venience.

However, the only convenience it provides is for the burglar who now only has to get into the garage to gain access to the whole house. Make it in-convenient for the burglar by locking the door and keeping them out and your home se-cure.

Garage door openers have certainly been a boost to con-venience when you compare them to the not-too-distant past of having to get out of your car in the rain and cold to open your garage door. However, they have created somewhat of a security risk. Imagine if a thief got a hold of two impor-tant items:

• Your garage remote control• Your address

Leaving your remote in your vehicle, along with your regis-tration or insurance paperwork (which contain your address) may give the burglar the ad-vantage they are looking for. If your garage includes a per-son-door make sure that it is equipped just like a regular house door; with a dead bolt lock and a door structure that has a solid core (not a flimsy thin door!).

Also, when going away for an extended period of time you may want to consider unplug-ging your opener as well as in-stalling a slide bolt that can be put in the door track to prevent it from being opened. Slide bolts are available at many home improvement stores. Including your garage door in your home security plans will make your home a safer and more secure place.

One popular type of a garage door

slide bolt.
