MFBN is working on strengthening our Child Nutrition Programs by asking our congressman to support program improve-ments and increased fund-ing. Improvements would increase access to the pro-grams as well as improve nutritional quality of food. We are requesting your help with this. We are circulating a petition for anyone to sign. We encour-age all staff and volunteers of partner agencies to sign the petition and that you ask your clients to sign to support Child Nutrition Programs as well. Child Nutrition Pro-grams include WIC (Women, Infants and Chil-dren program for pregnant women and children under 5 years of age), School Nu-trition Programs, Summer Food Service Program,

Afterschool meals, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (serving children in child cares). Please make the petition available for your clients to sign and encourage oth-ers in your community to sign on as well. Signed petitions will be sent to our Congressional offices. Please fax or mail signed petitions to Kate Devino, Public Policy Director no later than June 4, 2010.

Fax: 406-542-3770 Mail: Montana Food Bank Network, 5625 Ex-pressway Missoula, MT 59808 Thank you for your help with this very important effort! Please contact Kate Devino if you have any questions: [email protected] or 800-809-4752 ext. 231

you loud and clear and are seeking to improve our ser-vices based on your input. One of the biggest themes of this year’s survey results was nutrition, in terms of product as well as training, information, and resources. Here are some examples of the importance of nutrition to our Partner Agencies: What snacks would you like to see on our inven-tory more frequently? 91% of respondents indicated that “healthy snacks” are their preference. What bread would you like

to see on our inventory more often? Over 75% of respondents chose whole wheat bread over all other options. What vegetables would you like to see on our in-ventory more fre-quently? When given the options of fresh, frozen, and canned, the response was a resounding “yes please” to all, with each of the three choices reaching over 60% of respondents. But teaching your clients nutrition is not limited to just having healthy food on hand. As many clients are unfamiliar with nutritional information, 60% of re-spondents stated that they regularly provide clients with nutritional or dietary information. While this is a pretty decent percentage, we want to it to be even higher. To help accom-plish this, we asked respon-dents to indicate what would be the best way to spread the information - 71% said that recipe cards would be met with the best response, and 60% thought that nutritional brochures would be of the most bene-fit. Several Partner Agen-cies also requested more recipes in The Affiliate each month so we will be working hard to provide you with additional materi-als and suggestions for tasty treats that are also actually good for you!

The results of the Montana Food Bank Network 2010 Partner Agency Survey are all in! We’d like to send a big “Thank you” to everyone who took the time to com-plete the survey and are happy that we received a lot of very positive feedback. We hear

Please understand that this is part of a continuing effort to manage MFBN resources so that we can provide all Partner Agencies with the most useful and efficient services possible. If for any reason your scheduled delivery time changes from what has been published, MFBN staff will notify you immediately.
