in the driver’s seatwith Mike Moody, President

Spring has sprung, and so has my desire to take out the Porsche’s for a spin. I took the Cayman S to Talladega last week-end and had a great time. Weather was perfect and so was the company. Greg Hardman and Martin and Beth Griewahn were also there, and Beth served up a great lunch!

I have both of my cars for sale if anyone needs a 2006 Cayman S or 1999 Carerra C2. Wife and I are thinking about scaling back to one Porsche – maybe a 996 Turbo (and that is scaling back???).

The Musik-Stadt Porsche jackets are in, and we will hand out at next club meeting on May 13. If you cannot make the meeting, email or call me and we will make arrange-ments to get your jacket to you. They look great, and thanks Rick for the work!

We had a great time at the third annual Wheels and Keels with great weather with a great route and …. I wouldn’t go too far on the BBQ but it was OK. Also, we had new mem-bers, the Blount’s, show up with their new 2008 white Turbo. Gary came lately with his 356, as did the Mann’s with their 997 Targa. I want to thank NEWLY MARRIED Michael Doeblin and Jeri Duncan for organizing this year;s Wheels and Keels. Congrat’s to both of you.

The TN Tubs annual BBQ and Car Show is May 17 and this is a MUST ATTEND event. There will likely be over 200 Porsche’s there from all over TN, KY and GA. Don’t miss this great event and get there early if you want to buy a ticket for lunch.

Finally, there are several members going to the Porsche Parade in Charlotte in June/July. There are still slots avail-able if you haven’t signed up. If you are signed up, let me know so we can organize a caravan over. Frank and Michelle Hodges are Hospitality Chair and are looking for helpers while you are there. Let me know if you are going. Until then, see you at the club meeting on May 13.

Each member can maintain their own PCA information so they're personally empowered and can take workload off the club volunteers. As a member logs in to the pca.org site using their User name and Password, their individual member record is shown in the blue box on the right side. If any infor-mation needs to be changed simply select an item and the edit page will come up so that changes can be made. Many items are available for change that don't show in the blue box. This is very criti-cal when members change their email address. Since the vast majority of local club communication is done via email a current email address is very important.

Club Meeting May 13th Porsche Club Meeting

The May Musik Stadt Region Porsche Club meeting will be held at the

Caney Fork Fish Camp on Tuesday night May 13th starting at 6:30pm. We will be discussing the many events that are coming up in the next two

months.

The Caney Fork Fish Camp is a great new restaurant that is across from the main entrance of the Opryland Hotel. (we suggest you

take the I-65 route to Briley Parkway instead of the I-40 route be-cause of the construction) We have our own separate room at the back of the restaurant with a clear view outside of the parking lot where you will park. Caney Fork Fish Camp not only has great Cat-fish but they also have Grouper, Chicken, Ribs, Meatloaf, Pot Roast, Ham Stake and Chopped Steak with all the fixens you could want.

This will be a meeting you will not want to miss.

Saturday May the 3rd the Musikstadt Chapter held their 3rd annual Wheels and Keels. We met at the Percy Priest Lake, a peaceful quiet morning, the rainjust stopped and the sun was rais-ing over the wa-ter, when sudden-ly those Porsches roamed in. Es-pecially pleasing was the 2008 Tur-bo with a Fabspeed exhaust. After talking and

a d m i r i n g all the cars we left Per-cy Priest Lake, drove a l o n g s i d e Old Hickory Lake onto Highway 70, which is part of the His-

toric Trail of Tears. Our trip led us to Lebanon, then on Hwy 141 through Taylorville into Harts-ville. Nestled in the northern portion of Middle Tennessee, this rural county has a current popu-lation just over 7000 scattered over its beauti-ful hills and lush valleys. Farming, largely tobacco, was the economic base that formed this county, and it is still prevalent today. Many area families came to this fertile land from Virginia and North Carolina when their tobacco-growing families could not subdivide their lands any further. Tennes-see was a new state looking for settlers, and this area of the Highland Rim was an ideal location to build a

homestead.

We then turned onto Hwy 10, this is a part of the his-toric Avery Trace. In an effort to encourage settlers to move west into the new territory of Tennessee, in 1787 the mother state of North Carolina ordered a road to be cut to take settlers into the Cumberland Settle-ments-from the south end of Clinch mountain (in East Tennessee ) to French Lick ( Nashville ). A hunter, Peter Avery, was selected to direct the blazing of this new trail through the wilderness. The trail was laid out following buffalo trails which the Cherokee Indians had frequently used as a war path. It led from Fort Southwest Point at Kingston through the Cumberland Mountains up into what is now Jackson County, to Fort

Blount. From there it rambled along through the hills and valleys of upper Middle Tennessee to Bledsoe’s Fort at Castalian Springs, then to Mansker’s Fort and finallytoFortNashborough.Thesefivefortsprovidedshelter and protection for travelers along the Trace.

Now back towards Gallatin, passing the local airport and a Phantom RF plane to our left. We stopped for BBQandcatfish, wheresomemoremembersoftheclub joined us. After we ate we drove to the Cherokee Marina for some pictures. Reba’s house and Starstruck Farms are located right next to the marina.

As many of you know, Thoroughbred Motorcars sold to the Sonic Automotive Group on April 1, 2008. Sonic Automotive, Inc. (NYSE: SAH) is a fortune 300 com-pany based in Charlotte, North Carolina and is one of the largest automotive retailers in the United States. The company was founded by NASCAR track owner Bruton Smith.

Sonic Automotive operates in 15 states with 176 deal-erships and represent 35 different brands of automo-biles. These dealerships provide numerous services including sales of new and used cars, sales of replace-ment parts, vehicle maintenance, warranty, paint and collision repair services, and arrangement of extended warranty contracts, financing, and insurance for thecompany’s customers.

Major competitors include AutoNation, Group 1 Au-tomotive, and Penske Automotive Group. Sonic’s an-nual revenue is roughly 8 bil-lion dollars an-nually.In Nash-ville, Sonic Au tomot ive , Inc. also owns BMW /Mini of Nashville, Mer-cedes Benz of Nashville, and Crest Honda, Cadillac, Hum-mer, and Saab. In Chattanooga, they own BMW of Chattanooga and Economy Honda. One no-ticeable change in Nashville is that the Saab franchise has been move

At Jaguar, Porsche, Audi of Nashville, located at 2350 Franklin Road, Nashville, the only changes in personnel has be the addition of James Cor-lew as General Manager and Rick Philpot as the New Car Sales Manager. Another change you will notice is the change in attitude. “Porsche of

Nashville is looking forward to building their rela-tionship with the Musik Stadt Region PCA” says Rick

Philpot. “Once we get our arms around the business, we will be providing a level of service to the PCA members that they have never seen in the past”.
