Dear Friends in Christ,

There are four important roles that a pastor needs to do, other than

his sacramental duties and responsibilities for his parish. First is

Pastoral Care, which includes counseling individuals and couples, and

visiting the sick and the homebound. Second is Administration,

which means running the parish and overseeing the facilities, finances and administrative

tasks. The third is Preaching the Good News, which involves longer and deeper

preparation for homilies at liturgical celebrations. Last but not least is Leadership, which

includes developing strategies for the parish and motivating, inspiring and actively

managing parishioners to achieve the Vision, Mission and Goals of the parish.

Honestly and humanly speaking, I cannot be on top of these roles and responsibilities.

That is why I am thankful to all our parishioners and volunteers, who are continually

spending their time, money and skills for the betterment of our school, home and parish

communities. Here’s a litany of thank yous to our Deacons, Sisters, Trustees, Staff, Faculty, Liturgical Ministers, PTA Board, Catechists, Officers and Members of Holy Name Society, Altar Rosary Society, Respect Life and the Knights of Columbus, Pastoral Councils, Finance Councils and thousands others, whom I failed to

mention. Thank you to all those who filled up their volunteer forms last weekend, too.

To re-echo our Unity Prayer: “May we continually recognize the presence of our Lord among us during these months of change as we fill our hearts with patience and understanding, and strengthen our unity and wholeness during these times.”

Have a blessed Mother’s Day weekend. Blessings to you and yours!

Rosary Altar Society News

We had our last meeting for the 2017-2018 year and thank all who have attended our meetings, worked on altar privilege, and supported our fund raisers. At our meeting, we were happy to welcome three new members from St. Mary's.

Also, as part of what we do, we are providing new cassock & surplices for our altar servers and continuing our support of Junior Rosarians. Please join us as we induct our Junior Rosarians on Sunday, May 27, at the 10 am Mass. Keep an eye out for our Bake Sale. Here’s One Positive Encouragement

A thought for the week for meditation towards

your spiritual journey

When I believe I have been wronged, what do I

do?

Do I truly forgive he who has wronged me? Do I

keep it inside and let it affect my body, mind and

those around me? Do I ask God to help me

forgive?

The gift request is a suggestion only. We ask you to

consider a gift amount commensurate with your personal

financial situation. Keep in mind that gifts may be pledged

and paid through December 31, 2018. Gifts can be made in

the form of cash and securities, or a combination of both.

Tuition Assistance Donors Needed

Each year we meet with

families who cannot afford

the true cost of their

tuition and together we

determine what the family

can afford and then we

look for sponsors to pay the balance.

This year our donations of $52,000 did not meet

our need and we are in dire need of donations to

fund the balance. We are looking for

parishioners to help us fund the $31,000 that is

needed to pay all our outstanding accounts for

this year. Every donation you make, small or large

will help us reach our goal of providing an

excellent Catholic education to these families

who need our help.

Future Parish of Our Lady of Hope

ST. JEROME AND ST MARY UNITY PRAYER

Loving God, as the parish families of St. Jerome and St. Mary, we raise our voices and our hearts to you. We pray that you will look mercifully upon us as we merge into one parish to your honor and glory.

We are grateful for your blessings to all our parishioners who have generously shared their time, talent and treasure in making our parishes grow and progress through the years.

As we seek to recognize your presence among us during these months of change that lie ahead, fill our hearts with patience and understanding, and strengthen our unity and whole-ness during these times.

Sanctify what is to be retained and bless all that will be new, as we continue to grow in your love and service. We ask you this through the intercession of our Patron Saints Jerome and Mary, Our Lady of the Assumption, as we make this prayer through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.

Merger Training in Trenton

Fr. PJ and Marta Barkhausen, our Business

Manager, attended a Workshop at the Di-

ocesan Chancery Office in Trenton last

week to prepare for the merger. They re-

viewed a presentation by Terry Ginther,

Chancellor of our diocese, about the finer

points of preparing the first joint budget of

the new parish. Afterward was a Q.& A.

session that included Msgr. Troiano and

staff from the Finance department. Most

helpful was discussion with another parish

who had been through a merger before;

that pastor offered many helpful tips and

suggestions from his experience.

Watch this space for

more details each week!

Budget for the new parish

A new finance committee is being formed by Father PJ and they are beginning to review the first budget for the Parish of Our Lady of Hope. Much has to be discussed as we consider all the revenue and expenses for the first time of the combined parishes.

UPCOMING EVENTS

St. Dorothea’s St. Vincent de Paul Society in Action

As we celebrate the feast of the Ascension we are reminded

that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his

disciples…and now through us. When we give to the poor,

God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into

our lives and into the hearts of those who are poor.

A testament from another SVdP member follows: “Since

becoming a Vincentian, I have experienced spiritual growth in

a way I never anticipated. The Spirit has moved me to a more

gentle manner and a simplicity of heart. I have tried to

embrace the concept of seeing the face of Christ in everyone I

meet in the course of a day. I am so grateful that I am a

Vincentian. I have learned so much from those we serve about

strength, defeat, anxiety, hopelessness and perseverance. I

truly have received so much more than I have given."

Have you considered becoming a member of St. Dorothea’s

St. Vincent de Paul Society? If you think you might be

interested, please call Tony DAnnunzio to discuss volunteer

opportunities. God bless you!
