by Shea DrabbEveryday we see different fashion

trends and brands everywhere we look. Some students buy certain clothes not by price or look but by the label; labels such as Michael Kors, Juicy Couture and also stores such as Hollister and True Religion. Hundreds of other fashion labels are seen all over that are popular and are all different from one another, but one thing they all have in common is the expensive prices of their products.

Some may look at this and say well it’s Juicy Couture of course it’s going to be expensive, however, have shoppers ever really looked at those designer bags closely and paid attention to the materials that they are made out of? Many designer clothes are made with inexpensive mate-rial and are not worth the price they are sold at. This is not saying, however, that all designer products are overpriced.

Some products, although expensive, are worth what they are being sold for. A huge offender of making products with inexpensive material is Juicy Couture. Many of their purses are created with a material called terry cloth. Terry cloth is it is basically a bath towel like material. This material is neither expensive nor luxurious. Terry cloth is used in many of Juicy Couture’s products, and they are

Fashion is it really worth the price?sold at ridiculous prices for something that probably took twenty dollars to create.

Another material used by Juicy Cou-ture that is cheap is velour. Velour is basically a plush material that is usually made form synthetic materials such as polyester. Again Juicy Couture, although fashionable and cute, is a huge offender of ripping customers off. Juicy Couture does have items that are made with expensive materials, but there are not many of them.

When shopping for designer clothes or purses, shoppers need to be wary of the materials used in creating the prod-uct. Many designer fashion labels rely on customers buying products based on the name printed across them. Some designer labels do consistently use ex-pensive materials such as Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, and Louis Vuitton. The products sold in these stores are still extremely expensive, however, custom-ers are getting their moneys worth based on the materials they are created with.

Customers buying designer clothing should always be careful with what they are buying and the quality. No matter where a customer is shopping they should be sure of the quality and make sure it is worth the price it is being sold at.

by Nico McLachlanThe recent response to the terrorism

was the death to Osama Bin Laden. The choice to take action on this man was one of the biggest steps, and President Obama”s first big step to take action.

With the news about the death to Bin Laden, there were people going to Ground Zero and the White House and chanting USA, USA. With the number one terrorist out of the way, who will step in. Many people fear another attack from Bin Lad-en’s followers because of his death. I give thanks to the Navy Seals, Former Presi-dent George Bush, and President Obama.

The question whether Bin Laden was killed legally or not is one that many people are arguing about. With the me-dia stating for both sides, it is undecided whether or not he was legally killed.

Bin Laden’s death impacts everyoneBin Laden was a man who had put fear

in the eyes of the people of the United States. The man had suicide bombers crash and kill civilians. This man went into hiding from the US for almost ten years. According to news sources, when he was finally found, he was shot without any chances to surrender. Just shot and killed.

The choice to kill Bin Laden will affect the choices that good and bad people will make in the future.

So both sides now have to decide: to stand and fight, run and hide, or just con-tinue to go on with life. Do we continue to talk about the past or choose to talk about the future. We need to make good choices, that we will look back and say we made the right one, and not make the choice that will turn into chaos. We just have to wait and see what is going to happen.

news/COlumn

by Cameron OstromFor the culminating project there are

many deadlines that come and go very fast. Students have to have a project chosen, and approved, by the end of their junior year. This way they can work on their projects over the summer.

The project proposal is the packet stu-dents must fill out explaining their topic, the steps to do the project, and what knowl-edge they already have on this topic. This packet was due last April, but it is not too late to turn it in. If students have not turned in their packet yet it would be wise to get it turned into their advisor as soon as possible.

Many students turned in their packet on time but did not get their project ap-proved. They were asked to either choose a new topic or revise their topic and

Science Enrichment Center is the first thing that a player of Portal remembers hearing at the start of the first game.

On April 21, Portal 2 was released in the US on multiple platforms: Play-staion 3, Xbox 360, Mac and PC.

The time to continue the adventure of Chell, the female protagonist, has come. Portal 2 is about trying to once again escape GLaDOS during a series of tests using the portal gun. Puzzles galore await players in this physics game. In GLaDOS’ words, You have to think with portals.

GLaDOS decides that for the sake of science, she can forgive Chell for murdering her in the previous game and puts her through more tests in the Ap-erture Science lab that is being rebuilt.

A notable and obvious change to the game is the addition of coopera-tive play. Two players can take the role of either Atlas, a former moral-ity core, or P-body was a turret gun.

The two new characters have their own story separate from Chell’s. Atlas and P-body are equipped with their own portal gun and are subjected to the same experiments as Chell in the first game.

Players must work together to solve complex puzzles while avoiding turn-ing on each other under the stress of GLaDOS’ mind games and dark humor.

A groundbreaking concept has been introduced into Portal 2, the ability of cross-platform multiplayer. Games have mostly been available for more then one system and have multiplayer, but a PC owner couldn’t play with a Playstaion 3 owner, until now. Portal 2 allows a Play-staion 3 to play co-op with a PC owner or Mac owner. Sadly Xbox 360 owners can only play with other Xbox owners for now.

Portal 2 offers a great game that anyone who loved the first game and even to a player who hadn’t played the first game.

Even if GLaDOS has forgiven Chell, it’s time to break her heart once more.

Culminating project update for juniors

resubmit. The due date for revised pro-posals is Thursday May 19. If students have not submitted a proposal yet it is important to get one submitted by this day.

The consent form is also due on this day. The consent form is needed if the project is a high-risk project. The final date for the complete employability portfolio, project proposal, consent form, and having an at standard scholarly paper is Thursday, June 2. This is less than a month away and the day will be here before students know it. All components must be at or above standard by June 2 to be on track for graduation, so juniors should make sure to get everything turned in so they can have an easy start to their senior year.

Varsity soccer defeated

Sports Commentary

by Cody ShipmanThe AHS boys’ varsity soccer

played a tough, rough, and very ques-tionable game at Monroe. The game started with very questionable calls and only went downhill from there to a very intense and almost violent game. Even with the questionable calls, the boys’ soccer team put up one heck of a fight and a good game. The final score was a defeating 4-0 Monroe, but it was indeed a cheaply earned win.

Senior Corbin Anderson and AHS goalie said, “Monroe sucks at playing soc-cer; they just won by using dirty tricks.”

As if the way Monroe played wasn’t bad enough, the refs added to the mis-ery. “The game was a joke. You could totally tell the refs support of Monroe,” Anderson continued The ref’s question-able calls were underlined by the fact that two AHS players were kicked out

of the game for arguing with the refs. Goalie Corbin Anderson was yellow carded for arguing with the ref over a call on a re-attempt of a penalty kick. The game almost seemed like a bad comedy without the humor. The Mon-roe fans were even un-sportsman like, using profanities, vulgar comments, and demeaning not only the AHS soc-cer team, but the AHS fans as well.

Senior David Coleman said, “I knew going into it the game would be a fight due to Monroe’s dirty tac-tics.” Even with all this, the varsity soccer team still put up a good solid fight and tried their hardest through-out. Under such conditions still being able to keep their heads up, play fair and clean, and remain together as a team shows that the AHS soccer team was the real winners of that game.

by Samantha FowlerAn action packed thriller full of fan-

tastic adventure and a hidden love story. Thor, the god of thunder, and Loki, the god of miss-jiff, are small children and told the story of the ice giants by their father Odin the god of gods. The story was about the war between them and the Ice Giants. Odin told Thor that he would make a great king if he learns to think as a wise king instead of a young boy.

The special effects are really well done to the point that it doesn’t look entirely computer animated. Thor was played incredibly well with the deep voice view-ers expect a god to have. The inscription on the ground where the gods landed was so perfectly done, it looked like real symbolism created from the gods. The actors matched the pictures in the chil-dren’s picture books shown in the movie. Other than the green screen floating city illusion, the city of Asgar was real and the entire actors and horses road walked on the Rambo Bridge across it as well.

To all girls that enjoy eye candy, go see Thor in theaters. Boys who use or still read the comics written for Thor go see this ac-tion packed adventure of a brilliant story.

Climb into the magic of Thor

by Toria MorcomThe new hit movie that everyone

has been talking about is finally out in theatres. Fast Five is the fifth installment to the Fast and Furious movie serious. This thrilling movie stars Vin Diesel as Dominic Torreto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Connor, and Dwayne The Rock Johnson as Hobbs.

Fast Five is all about the ultimate high stakes race. Torreto and O’Connor partner up to pull their last job in order to gain their freedom forever that they have been dreaming of since the day they got into this world of racing cars and gambling off each other. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good involves confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. These businessmen have millions of dollars that have illegally been taken in from the country. If Toretto’s team takes them down, they split the money equally into 10 million dollars.

The businessmen are not the only ones trying to hunt them down. Hobbs, The Rock, and his team are also pursuing to kill Toretto and O’Connor

Fast Five hits the streets with a winfor the terror they have caused around Brazil and also Toretto being a loose criminal out on the streets.

The story line was interesting and kept most people on the edge of their seats. The acting between Toretto and Hobbs were the best and the highlight of the movie. From fist fighting to face to face smack downs to becoming allies in the end completes Fast Five.

The scene where the team steals three cars off of a train is incredible and the acting was well done. Senior Tim Mrazik said, “the movie had a little too much violence and shooting, but overall it was a good movie in theatres and I enjoyed watching it.” The producers went all out with this movie and it was a big hit at the box office. According to flixter, Fast Five has totaled 139. 8 million dollars since its opening day.

Producers are making a sixth Fast and Furious. It will be a movie that will top off all the others. Before this happens, find a couple of friends and go to the theatre. This movie is enjoyable to all audiences
