Northcrest Outreach Gift We have the results of the voting for the Outreach gift. The winner, by a large margin, was the Emergency Residence Project. A box is located at the Front Desk for people to deposit their contribution envelopes, or drop in Dee Matthews’ mail slot. Contributions will be accepted until May 22nd.

Share your Thoughts Check out our “Message Board” in the Mail Room area. Write your thoughts on a small note that you can pin up, telling what you are looking forward to “Post Virus”.

Ames History Museum The History Museum will be collecting infor-mation on how Ames residents coped with daily life amid Covid-19. If you journal or take photos about our life at Northcrest, you may be able to add to the Museum’s record of this unprecedented time in history. Think about how generations from now, people will be marveling at our coping skills!

Do you miss your Reading Buddies? We have an offer by a parent who would love to have short phone calls or Zoom meetings with a resident and have her children read to them. Contact Ronnie if you are interested.

A Tip from a Resident: Check out the Hasfit.com exercises for sen-iors on the internet. They are free (youtube) and there are both seated and standing exer-cises from 20 minutes and more. ***Note: we are in the process of putting the regular 8:30 am exercise DVDs on our web-site so you can join in whenever you like in your own living room! Watch for it in the Resident Section of our website.

KHOI Radio live messages Want to send a shout out to family or friends? Listen in to KHOI for Heart2Heart Messages with Anna Banana to hear your message on air! This will follow the KHOI Local Talk show on Mon, Tue, Thu, and Fri at 7:45 am and again at 7:00 pm. The messages can ei-ther be sent by leaving a voice mail message or by text at 515-809-0077. Old folks are sneaking out of the house, and their kids are yelling at them to stay indoors! You’re not stuck at home, you’re safe at home. One word can change your attitude! 2020 is a unique Leap Year. It has 29 days in February, 300 days in March and 5 years in April. May? Who knows?! If you keep a glass of wine in each hand, you can’t accidentally touch your face.

Make a Loud Noise! Let’s move that noisy outburst from Wednesdays to join in during our Weekly Parade on Fridays at 3:00 pm. Please come out to the sidewalk to encourage the drivers with your best noise makers!

Car Parade Join your car in a parade through North-crest on Fridays at 3:00 pm. Add a sign, balloons, or just wave to all residents who would like to come out to the street to wave back. Form in the NC Court at 2:50 pm, May 8. This week’s guest will be the Ames Police Department. Show we appreciate them by cheering them on! There will be a few signs available at the Front Desk to hold that they can see. (Wonder what next week’s theme will be??!!)

Hallway Art See examples of classic artwork being re-created with household items and props. It is a Quarantine Challenge offered from the Getty Museum—Northcrest challenges YOU to pick a piece of well known art, and see how close you can mimic it. We’ve started getting a few to exhibit already!! Where is yours?

Important Reminders 1.Please remember, if family members sit on your patio to visit with you, please have the screen door closed between you, stay 6 ft. apart at all times, and have all parties wear masks. You may also have the glass door closed and converse via phone. 2.For now, the new apartment building residents are in the same category as the townhome residents--they are considered visitors to the main building and may not enter at this time. Residents from other ar-eas of the campus are also not allowed to enter the new apartment building.

Silver Linings None of us are enjoying the limited social life we are experiencing due to the virus concerns. And when one member experi-ences particular sadness such as a death of a dear friend it is particularly hard. But these are the times when living in a com-munity has benefits. The atriums on Locust Hill, the 2100’s & 2200’s have been gather-ing for our Wednesday Noise sessions and to watch the parades. According to Karen Klaiber: “I encouraged our group to meet and make noise but mostly to hang out with [a resident who recently suffered two loss-es]. Nine residents showed up. I think our two atriums are closer than we have ever been.” Isn’t it great to live at Northcrest?
