This weekend, much of the world will pause as it honors and celebrates those who have meant so much to our society and our civilization as we know it; mothers. Think about it for a moment, without the institution of motherhood, none of us would be here today. But although the contribution of life is by all means an important one, in the case of mothers, it is only the beginning. In many ways, mothers are our first teachers. Before we spent our first day in school, our mothers were the ones that taught us our first life lessons. I don’t know about you, but a great deal of the “wisdom” that I possess to this very day was first passed on to me by dear old mom. Today as I begin a series from the book of Proverbs titled, A Word to the WISE, I feel that it is quite appropriate that our focus for this inaugural message will be drawn from chapter one, because it is in this chapter of the book of Proverbs that we are counseled by the wise man Solomon, to embrace “A Mother’s Law.” welcome worship schedule profile of giving MAY 3, 2014 CHURCH BUDGET: This offering pays for the outreach and nurture ministries of the church and the church school, along with necessary expenses such as utilities and maintenance of the church building. A mother’s influence is forever:“It is a fundamental truth that the responsibilities of motherhood cannot be successfully delegated. No, not to day-care centers, not to schools, not to nurseries, not to babysitters. We become enamored with men’s theories such as the idea of preschool training outside the home for young children. Not only does this put added pres-sure on the budget, but it places young children in an environment away from mother’s influence. Too often the pressure for popularity, on children and teens, places an economic burden on the income of the father, so mother feels she must go to work to satisfy her children’s needs. That decision can be most shortsighted. It is mother’s influence during the crucial formative years that forms a child’s basic character. Home is the place where a child learns faith, feels love, and thereby learns from mother’s loving example to choose righteousness. How vital are mother’s influence and teaching in the home—and how apparent when neglected!” - Ezra Taft Benson
