Transfer Process at UNC Charlotte•Transfer Application- transfer students apply to the Admissions Office. The Admissions Office handles all freshmen, second degree, visitors and transfers to the institution.

•Transfer Credit Evaluation- the credit evaluation is performed by the Admissions Office for new students and currently enrolled students.

•Evaluation performed before decision•Evaluation complete when acceptance letter arrives

•Transfer Credit Authorization- UNC Charlotte has a centralized transfer evaluation process. Credit evaluation approval is not “farmed out” to the faculty.

The Enrollment Process

Issues for our Transfers

• Why do I need to attend orientation? I’ve already been through on my former campus!

• Why didn’t all my credit transfer? Expectation of more cooperation between UNC System campuses and NC community colleges about course equivalency.

• Our 2005 Academic Engagement Survey found transfers are generally less engaged across the board in extracurricular activities. 27% of the transfer taking the survey said they were “lonely” on our campus.

Issues for our Transfers

• Often believe that the change in their collegiate environment will remedy any past academic issues.

• Often do not anticipate problems in getting classes they want (boy, are they surprised!)

• Expect to be able to discuss their options with their advisors and want their advisors to “explain requirements and give alternatives”

Issues for our Transfers

Many of our transfers come from smaller community colleges where things can be done at the “last minute” or deadlines are more flexible.

Many of our transfers live and work off campus and don’t become as engaged with the University as do freshmen.

• Transfers are invited to a full day session, in either June, July or before classes in August and before Spring classes begin in January. ($29 fee)

• Program includes overview of services, placement testing, advising and registration.

• Adult and Evening Students can attend a Saturday morning orientation hosted by our Office of Adult Students And Evening Services (OASES)
