The conference tournament will now begin this Wednesday as MSU will be the 1 seed and host Minnesota Crookston. With a win the Mavs would host another opponent Saturday. MSU 87 Sioux Falls 78 The #9 Minnesota State men’s basketball team withstood Sioux Falls’ second-half surge to claim an 87-78 win Friday evening at Taylor Center. Zach Monaghan led all scorers with 23 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Connor O'Brien added 17 points and 6 rebounds while Gage Wooten posted 9 points and 7 rebounds. As a team, MSU shot 44.4% (28-of-63) from the field and brought down a total of 40 rebounds. MSU also connected on 33-of-44 (.750) of its shots from the charity stripe. MSU 85 Southwest Minnesota State 75 Minnesota State claimed the regular season NSIC championship Saturday evening as it defeated the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs 85-75. With the win, MSU finished its regular season with a 22-4 record, including an 18-4 conference record. With Winona State’s loss at Augustana, Minnesota State claimed the No. 1 seed in the NSIC Tournament. Jarvis Williams made it a memo- rable senior day as he poured in a team-high 21 points, to go along with 5 assists. Assem Marei added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Zach Monaghan posted 12 points and a game- high eight assists. Connor O'Brien also reached double digits as he tallied 12 points. Ali Wilkinson paced MSU with 22 points. Wilkinson was one of four Mavericks to net double-digit points, as she was joined by the sophomore tandem of Aubrey Davis and Jamie Bresnahan who finished with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Junior Steffaney Thomas added 13 points in the winning effort as well.
