LI2Day Walk Donates $17,500 To Foundation

At a recent luncheon, The Maurer Foundation was awarded $17,500 in proceeds from the 12th annual LI2Day Walk, which took place June 13. As part of the LI2Day Walk event, we organized a team of 15 walkers and 12 volunteers to participate and help raise funds in the two-day event. The donation will help support our mission of educating young Long Island women and men on the importance of breast cancer prevention and early detection.

LI Ducks Hold Breast Cancer Awareness Night

On September 1, the Long Island Ducks hit a home run for breast health awareness! The Maurer Foundation

joined our hometown baseball team for their 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and reached hundreds of Ducks fans at a lively evening at Bethpage Ballpark. Our educators staffed a table at the game, distributing information and answering questions on breast health. Our Executive

Director Susan Samaroo was even among the representatives invited to throw out the first pitch of the game!

They rode for the amazing late summer weather and camaraderie. They rode to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. But more than anything, the 45 participants that assembled for our Second Annual Motorcycle Ride rode for their friends, family, and loved ones that had been touched by breast cancer.

The annual charity motorcycle ride, which raised nearly $4000 for the breast health education programs of the The Maurer Foundation, began it’s ride in Oceanside, NY on Saturday, August 29th. After a light breakfast and registration, the motorcyclists—who had traveled as far as Bayonne, New Jersey; Staten Island; Maspeth, Queens; Brooklyn and Long Island—revved up and took to the streets.

The event was generously sponsored by the Long Island-headquartered Utopia Home Care, Inc. Their CEO and motorcyclist David Martinez said, “I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday—giving back to the community and enjoying a great ride out to the East End. I’m so happy Utopia had this opportunity to be involved.”

Motorcyclists Raise Awareness at Second Annual Maurer Foundation Motorcycle Ride

Motorcyclists toured nearly the full length of Long Island, over 100 miles of beautiful roadways. The scenic route included Ocean Parkway, with ocean views, the farms of Manorville, and the winding roads of the North Fork. Appetites were satisfied with a mid-ride stop at the biker bar and grill, Maples, and the final destination in Greenport, NY—the seafood restaurant Billy’s By the Bay.

“There was such obvious enthusiasm,” said Maurer Foundation Executive Director Susan Samaroo. “Everyone was happy to be there and there was an incredibly high energy level from all the riders.”
