TomeetthedemandingstandardsofourTeamRidersanddevelopmentgroup,we’veproducedoneoftheverybestsailrangesinthe market. The visibility of the sails on the

waterisoutstanding,andthosewhohavetriedourrigswilltestifytheyarethebestfeelingsail/mastcombinationsBarryeverdesigned.With twenty-five years of sail making experience,andcontinuingleadershipinconstructiondetailsanddesignphilosophy,TheTeamhasproducedauniqueproductforyoutosailandenjoy.

Inadditiontosails,ourrigcomponentsareevenmoreoutstanding,includingourproprietaryboomfrontend,plasticparts,andmoldedone-piececarbonboom.Wecreatedaboomtheindustrywoulduseasastandard.Aftertwoyearsofdevelopmentandcontinuousanalysisofstrengthsand

The History

TheopeningchapteroftheMauiSails’storybeginsintheexciting,earlydaysofwindsurfing. The 1980’s were a time when innovationwaseverywhere,buttruefunctionwithhighperformancewasfoundonlyonMaui.

The 1978 brainchild of windsurfing pioneer, Barry Spanier, MauiSails quickly earned worldwiderecognitionastheleadinghighperformancesailcompanywithfunctionalfeature benefits. Spanier’s relentless commitmenttopushthesaildesignenvelopeinwaves,speedsailing,slalomandcourseracingenabledhimandadevotedfollowingofworldclasssailorstolaunchMauiSailsto

thetop.Thistraditionofthepursuitofhighperformance in windsurfing rig technology is alive today, supported by twenty-five years of excellence,andtherebirthofthelegendwhichisMauiSails.

In 1995 Barry teamed up with race veteran andformerPBAWorldchampion,Phil McGain.Theirexperienceinleadingedge windsurfing technology research and developmentprovidedKevin PritchardwiththetoolstowintheOverallWorldCuptitlein2000andotherTeammemberstowinWorldTitlesinFreestyleandtherecentSuperXdiscpline. Kevin has gone on to win five more titlesandrecognitionasoneoftheworld’spremierwindsurferstoday.MauiSailsTeamhaslednewdevelopmentsinallaspectsofthesport since 1978, and continues to lead the waytoday.

Phil McGainBorn 1963 in Sydney Australia, Phil McGain started sailing at the ripe age of 9 years old.AmasterShipandBoatbuildingcraftsman,Philwasabletodesignandbuildhisownracingboardsforover12years.

PhilhasbeeninvolvedwithResearchandDevelopmentforhisentireracingcareerandin 1989 won the prestigious PBA Racing Title. Philhascompetednowforover20yearsasa professional and although racing is his first passion, he has taken charge and blossomed intothebusinesssideofthesport.

PWAWorldChampion,EuropeanChampionandUSChampionhaveallbelongedtoPritchardoverthepast10years.

KevinPritchardnowhas6Worldtitlesunderhisbeltandisstillrightinthehuntforacouplemore.Kevinsurpassedthecriticswith his drive and focus to finally capture the elusivecrownin2000.Thisisahugefeatas the sport of windsurfing has always been dominated by the likes of Dunkerbeck and Naish.

Team Race 2 - What’s new?

Balanced batten loading (BBL)-Thisnewlydevelopedracesailwithalternatebatten pockets on each side of the sail starting

atthefootbattenonthestarboardsideandmovinguptonextbattenontheportside,alternatingallthewaytothetopbatten.ThisBBLproducesmorespeed,morebalancedrotationandcampressureequallybothonport and starboard tacks.

Shape refinement-Wehavelearnedthathavingadeep,powerfulshapeinthelowersections,combinedwithsolidresistancetorotation keeps the sail powering in lulls and developsacceleration.TheTR-2hasevolvedshapingthatisroundingtheentrycurvesinawaythatforcesthedepthforwardcreatesbettercamrotationandstopsthedraftfrommoving back in that full part of the sail.

Easy rigging -Tofacilitateriggingofthelargersailswiththecamsoffmethod,wehaveaddedzipperslotsandattachedthecamstothe sail. Now you can rig comfortably without

havingtocreasethesailandeasepushingthecamontothemast.

MauiSails SRS Carbon booms.

Wehaveaimedtocreatethehigheststandardfor carbon booms in the windsurfing industry. By using pre-preg carbon fiber in heat treated press moulds,wegetthebeststiffnesstoweightratiopossible.Plusmaximumdurabilityisassuredthroughtheuseoffunctionaldimensioningandproperly scaled add-on parts, like the boom head andtailhardware.

AllMauiSailsboomshavetheruggedandeasytouse front end that fits perfectly with the 40mm diametercontinuousboomarm.Theextrawideracetailextensionhaspulliesandfairleadsforadjustableouthauls.Eachboomisfullydevelopedandtestedforit’sownpurpose,fromtheSRSCarbon Race 265 for sails to 12.5m, to the SRS Wave140,withitsowncustomtailpiece,and30mm grip zone for super comfort and control.

TheMauiSailsAluminumBoomrangedeliverstrue high performance windsurfing rig technology.FittedwiththenewMauiSailsFrontend, this new T8 heat treated Aluminum Boom is super stiff and durable. The arms fit insidethealuminumtubefrontendinsteadof on the outside like most other aluminum boomstoreturnthehighestlevelofdurabilityandstiffness.

Eachboomcurveisindividuallydesignedtomatch the specific sail size range perfectly. 50cm range of adjustments on rear ends with a double pin lock system delivers supreme stiffnessandlongtermdurability.
