Perdue has reappointed Mat- thew J. “Rick” Watts of Fayetteville to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission. The reappointment was an- nounced by Miriam J. Baer, Executive Director. First appointed to the Real Estate Commission in 2002, Watts is Broker Associate and Senior Sales Executive with Coldwell Banker Huff and Pennink Advantage in Fayetteville. In 18 years with Coldwell Banker, he has been a member of the President’s Elite for six years and the President’s Circle for eight years. Watts entered the real estate business in 1992 after retiring from a 30-year career with the U. S. Army where he ‘achieved the rank of Command Retention Sergeant Major for the XVIII Airborne Corps. Among numerous military and civic honors, Watts holds the U.S. Army Legion of Merit, the highest peace- time award for military achievement and honorable ser- vice. Watts has also been awarded the coveted Combat Infantry Men’s Badge, and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was also featured in the highly acclaimed book, “100 Sergeants Major of Color”. Watts was selected as the Fayetteville and Cumberland County Ministerial Council’s “Citizen of the Year” for 2004. The Mayor pre- sented Watts the “Key to the City” of Fayetteville in 2004. The Mayor also declared the 25 th of May 2004 as “Rick Watts’ Day”. The Rise Newspaper presented Watts with the “Men of Honor 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award”, and The Mayor presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the city of Fayetteville for Watts’ lifetime achieve- ment on the 25 th of June 2005. The Kappa Alpha Frater- nity, Inc. presented Watts with it’s V.P. Trent Service Award for 2006. The president of the NAACP presented Watts with the “Outstanding Service Award, 2007”. Watts has also received the International Award of Strathmore’s WHO’s WHO in Real Estate “Honors”. Watts is a lifetime member of the Veterans of For- eign Wars, he is a lifetime member of the American Le- gion, he is a member of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum Foundation Board and past member of the Executive Committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, as well as sixty five other organizations. Watts also has numerous Masonic affiliations and degrees. Watts has been conferred with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Gov. Michael Easley for lifetime achievement and service as a member of the Real Es- tate Commission. Watts was elected chairman of the North Carolina Real Estate Commission for two consecutive terms, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. Watts and his wife, Margaret, a retired teacher with 31 years of service, and a former real estate broker live in Fayetteville. Their daughter, Tiffany, received her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the Director of Assessment, Research, and Evaluation at the University of North Carolina’s Cen- ter for School Leadership Development.
