Why Was Jesus Baptized?Not for the same reason as other people were

John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the

forgiveness of sins.  (Mark 1:4, ESV)

…and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. (Matthew 3:6,

ESV)

For we do not have a high priest who is

unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one

who in every respect has

been tempted as we are, yet without

sin. (Hebrews 4:15, ESV)

been baptized with the baptism of John, but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into

his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just

in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly

be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified

with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer
