Artist Statement“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.”

-Robert FrostI am into organic food, awesome artists, brand identity design and invisible things like

music, energy, a sense of humor & character. I make multi-media pictures that interact

with the sounds around them. The recent addition of electroluminescent wire (el wire) to

my pictures enables me to visualize the invisible elements of music, energy, emotion,

mood and timing, so I can become a better visual storyteller.

The story of the art work featured in the Amplified exhibition can be traced back to

a painting I made in 1995 called Body & Soul. At that time, I was a young spud of

22 years old, fresh out of art school. By day, I worked as an art director for a local

ad agency in Fort Lauderdale by the name of Reed & Steven and I designed flyers

for local bands at night for 30 bucks a pop but made very few acrylic paintings

because I was a perfectionist and nothing was ever good enough for my punk ass.

Body & Soul was still a work in progress; something was missing. Finishing the

piece involved an epic stand-off between my practical left brain & my creative right

brain. So, there I was, staring at my own two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took

the one called fuck it, and never looked back. It was the first painting I made that suc-

cessfully merged analog + digital, typography + image, graphic design + fine art, collage

+ acrylic paint on a canvas with a conceptual common thread that tied it all together.

In my early twenties, I made multi-media pictures to figure out who I was and

to illuminate the dark side of my personality and explore my preferred balance

between digital vs analog art. Through the process of making these pictures and

reading a book called “The Artist’s Way,” I learned how to face my fears, transcend

self doubt, anger, creative block, jealousy and other negative emotions.

Since I woke up from the old cookie-cutter dream I was having, I am now in

pursuit of a new simplified and amplified american dream. This exhibition is

my way of beginning to share my stories and to offer you a taste of the road

I’ve travelled on from Boca to Baltimore.Life has become immeasurably better since

I have been forced to stop taking it seriously.
