Grading Scale This course and my grading policy are designed to emphasize the idea that growth is possible and supported by

giving students the opportunity to see what they are doing well and where they

can improve. The goal is to elicit more meaningful responses to feedback and

more accurately reflect students’ progress towards mastery.

Grades are determined by using multiple assessments to gauge mastery of each learning target. Because students are

given multiple opportunities to demonstrate competence and all graded assignments include rubrics with areas of focus for particular assignments, students

are expected to demonstrate growth throughout each semester.

Learning Targets to NGSS Core Idea with

Subtopics

Learning Targets for the Year

Earth’s Systems Water Cycle, Weather, Climate

1) I can develop a model to describe the cycling of water through Earth’s systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity.

2) I can collect data to provide evidence for how the motions and complex interactions of air masses result in changes in weather conditions.

Earth and Human Activity Global Climate Change Causes

3) I can apply scientific principles to design a method for monitoring & minimizing a human impact on the environment.

Life Science Cells & Body Systems Heredity -Sexual V. Asexual Reproduction

4) I can conduct an investigation to provide evidence that living things are made of cells; either one cell or many different numbers and types of cells.

5) I can develop and use a model to describe why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.

Physical Science Energy- Kinetic Energy & Collisions Heat and Heat Flow

6) I can construct and interpret graphical displays of data to describe the relationships of kinetic energy to the mass an object and to the speed of an object.
