MULTIPLICATION OF VALUE AND UNITS Mdm Tan had a total of $360 , consisting of $10 and $2 notes . Given

that she had four times as many $2 notes as $10 notes , how many notes did she have?

NUMBER OF NOTES X VALUE OF EACH NOTE TOTAL$(U)$10 notes 1 UNIT X $10 = $10 UNITS $2 notes 4 UNITS X $ 2 = $ 8 UNITS

Total amount $10 + $8 = $18 UNITS $18 UNITS $360 1 UNIT $360/$18 = 20 NOTES

TOTAL NUMBER OF NOTES : 5 UNITS 5X20 = 100 PIECES #

PART-WHOLE RELATIONSHIP (TYPE 2 )Caroline spent $75 of her money on a number of CDs.She spent ¼ of the remaining money on a number of Batteries . Given that she was left with 1/3 of the original sum of money , how much

money did Caroline have at first ?

Since 1/3 of Total 3 units or 3 boxes 2/3 of Total 6 units or 6 boxes

Therefore the remaining 5 units $75 1 unit $75/5 =$15

Amount of money Caroline had at first 9 units 9 x $15 = $135 #

REPEATED IDENTITY Samantha had 2/7 as many sweets as Zoey . Melvin had ¾ as many

sweets as Zoey , If Melvin had 39 more sweets than Samantha, find the total number of sweets that was shared among the three children at first .

Samantha : 2 units x 4 8 units Zoey : 7 units x 4 28 units

Melvin : 3 units x 4 12 units Zoey : 4 units x 4 28 units

Difference between Melvin and Samantha 21 units – 8 units = 13 units
