Today, we are going to look at expanded noun phrases. You are then going to use these in your writing to describe the PlaceBetween. If you don’t remember what an expanded noun phrase is watch this video to remind yourself. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/z3nfw6f

You might also want to think about including alliteration, personification, similes and metaphors. It would be a good idea toscroll back to the pictures and look at them carefully and write some phrases/words that come to mind before you start writing your setting description. You should challenge yourself to write as much as you can!

The goblin like genie. The bright, golden shooting stars.

The magic hands cast shadows like the moon on a dark night.

Here are some examples of sentences I have come up with after looking at the pictures. I will then use these to write my setting description of the Place Between.

Who do you think the boy is?Do you think Leon wanted to return? Why do you think the rabbit was never called back?

This place was like no other. Magic was everywhere you looked. The bright, gold shooting stars flew past. It was just like bonfire night! The goblin like genie smiled like a Cheshire cat as he held the playing card in his hands.

We are going to look at two travel brochures/ leaflets of a place in the UK and a place outside of the UK. Scroll down to findthem.

You are going to compare both of them and try to identify what they have included to make you want to visit these places. You will need to look at and read them carefully. Look at the language they have used. What is it about them that make the places look appealing?

I have started my table off to compare and identify the features of both. You do not have to do it in a table if you don’t want to, you could do it in a venn diagram.

Laich Coast UK Austria

• Lots of bright pictures including maps • A few pictures but no map of where Austria is.

• Lots of history links such as the Vikings • Lots of rhetorical questions such as what are you waiting for?
