Proportional vs Non-proportional Relationships in a Table

In order to tell from a table if there is a proportional relationship or not, you can check to see if the ratio is the same

If two quantities are proportional, then they have a constant __________________________.

Find for each value in the table. If you get the same value each time, the table represents a proportional relationship. If you get different values, the table of values is not a proportional relationship.

Option 1: Copy each of the following 4 corners boards. Cut the boards apart so that each corner is

separated from the rest. Mix up all the corners from each problem. Give each student one of the mixed up

corners and have them find the students the other parts of the 4 corners board that match theirs. Once the board

has been assembled, have the students fill in the missing pieces on each board and answer the questions.

Option 2: Copy and laminate about 15 sets of the following 4 corners boards. Cut the boards apart in each set so that each corner is separated from the rest. Mix up all the corners within one set (each set should have eight 4 corners problems in it). Pair up students and give each pair one set of the 4 corners boards. Have the pair match up the 4 corners problems and fill in the missing pieces using an overhead pen or dry erase marker.
