MATH BINGO

GOAL: Students will use math expressions to successfully play the familiar game of Bingo. SUPPLIES: BINGO card Chips 30 questions and answers RULES: Each student is given a blank Bingo card. Answers are given to the students. Students cross off 6 answers and place the remaining 24 into the boxes on the bingo cards. The questions are read and students cover the correct answer on their Bingo card.

RACE TO THE TOP GOAL: Students will use appropriate operations to successfully find the correct solution. SUPPLIES: RACE TO THE TOP game sheet RULES: Given a game sheet, students will enter numbers on the base of the game sheet as instructed by the teacher. The teacher will give the students an operation to perform on the numbers in the two consecutive spaces. The answer is placed directly above the corresponding spaces. The first person to complete the entire pyramid and find the correct answer is the winner.

TOSS THE BOX GOAL: Students will successfully answer questions using learned math expressions, definitions, and concepts. SUPPLIES: TOSS THE BOX question template 20 questions Tissue box Small Ziploc bags Glue RULES: The teacher begins by tossing the box to a student. The student will answer the question found under their left (or right) thumb. If the student answers the question correctly, they then toss the box to another student. This student answers a question. If the student answers the question incorrectly, they then answer another question on the same side of the box. Play continues until all questions have been answered or time runs out. TO MAKE THE BOX: Buy a cheap square box of tissues. Glue small zipper bags onto the sides of the box. These can be purchased online or bought at a hobby store Insert the completed templates with questions inside each bag.

DOMINOES GOAL: Students will use math expressions to correctly create a train of dominoes. SUPPLIES: DOMINO cards RULES: Students are divided into groups of 2 or 3 students. Each group is given a set of domino cards. Cards are divided among the students. The player with the START domino card begins the game. They play this domino card. The next person with the correct corresponding domino places it next to the START domino. Play continues until all dominoes have been played and the end domino is played. The team that can build the domino train quickest is the winner.

PUZZLE POWER GOAL: Students will use math expressions to work concepts within a group setting. SUPPLIES: Big PUZZLE Small PUZZLES RULES: Students are given a BIG puzzle piece. When instructed, students get up and roam the room finding 3 other students with puzzle pieces that create a puzzle. Students then pair into a group of 4 and work the puzzle just created. After they have completed this puzzle, they are given 16 smaller pieces, which will create 4 new puzzles. The students then work cooperatively putting these puzzles together and finding the solution to each.

KRYPTO GOAL: Given only 5 numbers, the student will use math operations the correctly obtain the given target number. SUPPLIES: KRYPTO cards KRYPTO game sheet RULES: 5 KRYPTO cards are dealt to each student. One card is dealt to the teacher, who displays this card on the board. This is the target number. Students perform operations, including parenthesis, roots, and exponents to equal the target number.

First student to achieve the target number wins.

FOUR IN A ROW GOAL: Students will use basic multiplication and logic to correctly “capture” 4 squares in a row. SUPPLIES: FOUR IN A ROW game sheet 2 colored chips, each a different color. RULES: Player 1 places their chip on a number on the number line.

Player 2 places their chip on a number and finds the product. They then place their initials on the product in the grid. Player 1 moves their chip left or right one space and also find the product. Player 1 then places their initials on the corresponding square in the grid. Play continues until one player gets 4 answers in a row, horizontally, diagonally or vertically.

HOW DO THEY FIT? GOAL: Students will use math concepts learned to successfully put a math puzzle together. SUPPLIES: HOW DO THEY FIT game pieces RULES: Students may pair into groups of 2 or 3.

BULL’S EYE GOAL: Students will roll dice and reach a specified goal number in the least number of rolls of a pair of dice. SUPPLIES: BULL’S EYE game sheet 2 dice per student RULES: Teacher assigns goal number

Student rolls dice and finds the sum, difference, product, quotient, power or root of the two numbers. This answer is then recorded on the game sheet. The answer is added to the cumulative total on the game sheet. Winner is the person who reaches the goal number first or in the fewest rolls.

ADDITIONAL TEMPLATES Whole Number Wheel Students cut out two number wheels and the square window on the Whole Number cover sheet. Students use 2prong brads to connect wheels to back of cover sheet so numbers show through window. Students then rotate wheels to create problems to solve using operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, or even exponents. Integer Wheel Similar to Whole Number wheel, except numbers contain negatives. Magic Square using math vocabulary Students complete a matching activity, answering questions containing vocabulary terms. Students then record answers in the space provided. The sum of the numbers in the grid will be the same horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

To decide who rolls first, each student will roll their die. The highest roll goes first.

That student is Player 1.

Each student places their disks on the 10 yard line on the field game sheet.

Player 1 rolls the die and moves that number of units left or right on the field.

He/she then places that number on the score sheet and solves the integer problem.

Player 2 then rolls the die and also moves that number of units on the field and fills

out the score sheet too.

Player 1 rolls again and again moves that number of units on the field and continues

to fill out the score sheet.

The play continues until one player crosses the goal line. That person is the

WHOLE NUMBER FOOTBALL CHAMPION!!
