Torrential rain had closer the course earlier in the week and we were not very optimistic when we arrived at the course. However the threat of rain never eventuated much to the delight of the 26 players that teed off on a dismal but clear morning. The course that was very wet underfoot especially on the back 9 holes. Jackpots to $28 Saturday 9 November 2013 The Ridge Golf Course - Guzzlers Guzzler - Stableford - 6:00 34 players teed off on a very warm morning (22 degrees at 5:30am) and each player was covered in flies before tee off. The Aerogard had to work overtime for those who had some or could beg, borrow or steal some. By the 3rd hole the flies had gone as the humidity rose. Matt Whibley (40) won the Guzzlers Cup ahead of Fred El-Daher (39) and Tim Pooley (37). The Pink Ball was awarded to John Adelerhof (23) who celebrated his 80th birthday last Sunday (3rd November). President, Tim Pooley, presented John with an award on behalf of our members on his achievement of this significant milestone. The award was prepared by Norm Miles especially for this momentous occasion. Matt Whibley also won the Guzzlers Guzzler which is a play-off of the winners of the Guzzlers Cup over the preceding 6

months. We welcomed a visitor, Joel Griffiths, who is back from China for a few weeks to get away from the snow and cold weather. Horse Lotto was won by Frank Fuller ($100) in his first ever win. The weather was cool to start but turned into a warm Spring day that was perfect for golf. Peter Bull (43) won the Guzzler Cup. The 6 Monthly Point Score winner is Joe Taylor who was 2 points ahead of Chris Lee. The Pink Ball was awarded to Denis Daniels (19). Our members were treated to 18 holes of golf, a hamburger after 9 holes and lunch at the Kareela Golf & Social Club after the game. Most of our players were still socialising until the completion of the Cox Plate at 5:30pm. This year was a variation on the usual Annual Day theme and, according to comments made during the day, it was a great success. Dylan Cairns: Dylan is in St Vincent's Hospital recovering from knee surgery that went horribly wrong when it became infected almost causing the loss of part of his leg. We will return to do battle again next Saturday when hopefully the weather will be much kinder to us all. Congratulations to Frank Fuller who celebrated his 70th birthday during the week. Saturday 22 June 2013 Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford - 6:50 The bulk of the field of 32 players only managed to complete 9 holes before the Club Captain, Fred El-Daher, called the game off due to the rain. The green were flooded making putting impossible unless you used a 6 or 7 iron the get the ball above the water and even then it was pretty much hit & miss. Even the die-hards only lasted another 2 holes after Fred called the game off. What a disappointing end to a morning that promised so much. Saturday 15 June 2013 The Ridge Golf Course - Stableford - 6:50 The winner of the Guzzlers Cup was Jeff Saunders (39) ahead of Ryan Carr (38) and Peter Bull (37). The Pink Ball was awarded to Tim Pooley (21) who was very relaxed after his 14-day cruise on the South Pacific -- maybe too relaxed! Jason Morrow came 4th on a count back from 6 or 7 others. Rob Guidi scored an Eagle on the Par 4 4th Hole by sinking his approach shot to the green from 100 metres out for 2/5. . Graham Clarke scored 5 birdies on the day which is a great achievement off a handicap of 6. Joel Griffiths was once again a welcome visitor for the day's golf. Benjamin 1UP The Engadine Hackers Golf Club was formed in 1983 as a break-away club by some Miranda members residing with new families at Engadine who were unable to play every week. The Hackers have pinched most ideas from Miranda including the “Guzzlers Mug", Pink Ball, Annual Day and their Constitution. The inter club Challenge began in 1997 as an annual event in which the two clubs competed against each other for the “Challenge” Trophy. The event was held at Illawarra for the first three years and then transferred to Calderwood Valley. Pairs from each club compete against each other with the previous year’s losers picking the type of game. Miranda GC has now won 11 "Challenges" and the Hackers have won 6. After golf both clubs enjoyed a B-B-Q and beer and presentation of the Challenge Trophy and individual club winners. As the weather forecast was for more wind and rain and after deliberation with those members who turned up at the golf course the Captain declared the golf course unplayable and cancelled the day's event. The Pro offered some members a game with a cart for $38 but even these hardy individuals only lasted 4 or 5 holes before succumbing to the wind & rain and calling it quits.

Saturday 26 January 2013 Kogarah Golf Course - Stableford - 5:45 - CCR = 32 The course was very dry and the dams were nearly empty but the greens were still in good shape. These conditions obviously suited Graham Clarke (42) who won the Guzzlers Cup ahead of Mick Connor (41) and Peter Bull (34). Graham played off 5 today and managed to shoot a scratch score of 1 over par which is a tremendous effort at Kogarah. The Pink Ball was awarded to Tim Tillbrook (20). Steve Vormister (41) won the Guzzlers Cup on a count back from Ryan Carr with Rob Gillespie (40) in third place on a count back from Tim Tillbrook and Peter Bull. The Pink Ball was awarded to Alan Griffiths (26) on a count back from Kurt James. Alan also picked up a bottle of win donated by Kareela Golf & Social Club. The Eagles Nest ($14) was won by Tim Pooley with an excellent tee shot on the 18th Hole which stopped within a flagstick of the hole as did Chris Lee but Tim's was closer. Ian Brown, Treasurer of the Kareela Golf & Social Club presented Tim Tillbrook with a new golf bag worth $300 which was donated by the Kareela Golf & Social Club to the player that amassed the highest Stableford score over all the games played at Kareela in the preceding 12 months. We welcomed a visitor, Warren Bowen, who is down from QLD visiting Graham Clarke. Horse Lotto ($100) was won by Rob Gillespie.
